What do you really know about the 1971 Double?

The 1971 quizzes

By Tony Attwood

Early next year we are going to publish what we hope will be the definitive volume on Arsenal in the 70s.  As part of that I thought it might be interesting to do a few quizzes – to test out what you really know about the first Arsenal double, what led up to it, how the Double happened, and what happened immediately afterwards.

Of course everyone who reads this site will know all about 1971 and the glorious first double.

We all know that Charlie George scored the goal that won the FA Cup, and then laid on the ground.  We all have seen the black and white image of Ray Kennedy heading the winner at White Hart Lane to win the league.

But what else?

Who, for example, were our main rivals that season?  What player missed much of the season with a broken ankle in the first match?  What happened in the build up to the Double season, and what happened in the aftermath?

There are no prizes, but you might find it fun – and if everyone gets every answer right, then I will have to write something harder for the quiz about 1970/71 itself.

The first quiz is here.

I do hope you enjoy it.
