Untold Uncovered

Arsenal Uncovered is a series of articles which appear in each matchday programme at Arsenal (including European ties but excluding the pre-season Emirates Cup and excluding league cup matches) during the 2011/12 season.

As the title suggests the series looks at parts of Arsenal, particularly in relation to its history, which is generally ignored in the telling of the Arsenal story.

The series began by looking at what happened behind the scenes in one of the most famous Arsenal matches of all time – the cup game at Walsall during the reign of Herbert Chapman.  It continued with with story of an attempt by one Arsenal manager to give the players drugs to improve their performance, and then moved onto the story of when Arsenal were forced to play two games in one day.

Other stories include the role Arsenal’s George Eastham played in liberating players from unfair contractual arrangements, the way in which the BBC has regularly used Arsenal to test out new technology, and how different our top scorer records would look if wartime games were included in the records.

We’ve even looked at the official encouragement of drug taking before a game.

The series will continue all the way through the season.
