Really strange performance by Atkinson. The first half he was a nightmare. The 2nd half he was quite good.

Barton was up to his usual tricks with an X-rated lunge on Arteta’s ankle. Though Atkinson didn’t send off Barton like he should have, he did give Barton a yellow card and so the ex-convict/football player had to restrain himself for the rest of the match.

Taarabt also got away with what should have been a red card, throwing his forearm/elbow into Arshavin’s face. Shockingly Atkinson was looking right at it, but didn’t even deem it a foul.

Arsenal also had two penalty shouts in the first half. In the first instance, Luke Young slid in with his arms extended and raised to the level of his head, blocking the ball almost as if he were the goalkeeper. When a defender plays the ball like a goalie and handles the ball, it should be a penalty.

In the second instance the cross wasn’t hit that hard and Barton’s arm was extended and it wasn’t point blank range either. This also should have been a penalty.

With all the wrong calls going against Arsenal in the first half, Atkinson was quite decent in the second half. Definitely a tale of two halves.

In the end a very low score and if you like to take a look at the comment section of our Ref Watch you will see that I predicted for this ref that he would score low on the important calls. And all this based on the numbers we have gathered in the ref reviews so far. Must say, even I am amazed

  1. The last sentences in this ref review and the title refer to the comment I made when Dogface put his refwatch on line and that you can find here http://blog.emiratesstadium.info/archives/17699 (second comment)

As it was the end of the year I thought I might as well stick my neck out a bit and make a prediction on how the ref would do. Thinking that if I would be wrong nobody would notice it because having drunk too much at the end of the year…

But feel rather smart now because I had it right…

  2. One of the worst ref performances I have seen to miss 2 pens & book the wrong player! I mean how bad have you to be. For sure 2 reds were missed as well appalling performance.

  3. Excellent review but very poor performance by Atkinson. He could easily have cost us the three points, fortunately our players were able to win despite Atkinson.

  4. Why us? I believe many have asked this question. May be because we are playing fair and square and we are playing soccer and we are still running within our means and we are straight.

The answer seems to be very elusive for this question.

I really cannot understand how the referee seem to miss handballs against us. Its really looking pretty consistent these days. I believe this is the third or fourth time in the last matches where we were deprived of penalty shouts in the box for handball calls.

  5. I noticed that even Arsene has alluded to the Great Penalty Fraud

on the lack of penalty decisions in their favour…
We [should have] had a clear penalty in the last game against QPR with a clear handball, a penalty at Man City and we had a penalty at Villa Park. You should not ask me, I don’t know.

Ever since Eduardogate, Arsenal have been denied roughly a penalty a game…this is a sobering statistic for several reasons….

It is purely incidental that RVP would have scored close to 70 goals in the calendar year…had we been given our penalties…

I am a “Conspiracy Theorist” – I believe in Conspiracies.

Proving conspiracies is not always so easy, but I tend to believe that the truth will out.

Whether its Gambling Consortiums, Chinese or otherwise, affecting the game, or the bent camaraderie of the Glaswegian brigade, or corruption at Soho Square, or Global Fund Managers overseeing Clubs…

whatever is causing the effect, I can only surmise.

But it is corruption of some sort, and it is destroying the sport.
Hopefully it won’t go on for ever….
