  1. I have to say that although I expected us to win comfortably I thought Spurs would get the draw they required, and not in any scenario did they lose 5-1 to an already relgated team.It goes to show that their squad isn’t that deep if they can’t cover for suspended players.
    It’s happened again

  2. England might be Blue but London is Red.

Let make England Red next season. COYG!!!

  3. And before I forget to make amends, congrats to Giroud (who I recently criticised) for his first PL hat trick. Well done Olivier. It was worth the wait.

  4. What a beautiful way to end the season, thought we would win, but didn’t see them losing…..to ten men…..at such a magnitude.
Thank you Arteta, a leader…..and as so many have said, helped steady the shop in difficult times, and an excellent player…..there were times when he has been badly missed. Not for me to question the structures of the club, but think it is a shame a coaching role cannot be found for him. Hope to,see him back one day.
Thank you Rosicky…..one of the most dynamic ball players I have .seen…a destroyer of Tottenham and others. Wished we could have seen more of him over the years, and playing today….but not to be.
Thank you Flamini…..you returned saying you had unfinished business….and helped us to silverware. Good luck whether you be playing, coaching, or decreasing our dependency on fossil fuels.
It is a shame we couldn’t finish above Leicester….but despite some frustrating games, and work to do, second place marks progress

  5. yeahhhh, luv it. thats what happen when spuds fans got to cocky, in the end their team got smash by club who gonna play in the championship next season. nice to see club skipper M.Arteta score in his farewell game even tho its count as an own goal. forever in love with Arsenal

  6. A big finger to all that discounted Arsenal and Wenger during this season (and not only). It’s decisive moments like this that make the difference between winners and losers. Our squad has strength and character, had their ups and downs, but never gave up fighting. This is the stuff champions are made of. The PL title is in sight – but (whispering) we won’t shoot ourselves if we won’t achieve it right from the next season.

  7. Am I correct in my remembering of the Sky post match review – they went to every ground, bar Arsenal. May be as the season ended up not playing to their endless narrative on how shit Arsenal are and how wonderful Tottenham were, someone at Sky made the call to do the ostrich and pretend it didn’t happen.
Our defence is shit – 4 th best in the league.
Our attack is shit – 3rd/4th best in the league.
Doesn’t quite stack up to what the media idiots would have us believe does it.
Lord knows we need to play better next season and the manager needs to sort out the way we’re playing but it does seem that everything is not quite as bad as they would have us believe,
Perhaps the Sky Emperors have rather fewer clothes than was first thought.

  8. The future is good, it is not blue; They play the fool, We just stay cool; We play our way; Don’t mind what they say, Come what may; While they mind the gap, we do honour’s lap; Hand in hand, we’ll take the land; Victory through harmony, not loads of money; Our style, smooth and sweet like honey; But they think it’s funny; Step by step, we slay our dread and look ahead to put to bed the doubters’ doom and gloom; We see the future, it is so bright; Oh yes, it is red and white!

  9. So best finish since 2005, 2 FA cups in last three years, and we’re supposed to be going backwards? Makes you wonder how some people do their counting.

Thank you Benitez, not only for pulling off such a stunning victory with 10 men, but look at who was on the receiving end of that trouncing. I’ve always admired Rafa; he challenged the duopoly in Spain with limited resources, brought Liverpool the only glory they can crow about in the last quarter of a century, challenged ferguson and no fawning at all to the media like that cretin mourinho, took on probably the biggest challenge any manager could take – trying to save a doomed club from relegation[and he nearly did it, if only they had not drawn with Villa, who knows]. Meanwhile cheque book managers like Guardiola and mourinho take all the plaudits for doing nothing really. I hope Rafa stays, and the magpies bounce back next season.

  10. Hopefully the young Australian who got hurt for Villa in the 75th minute will not have too serious of an injury. Anyone know what happened?

According to some in the medja, apparently protestors were doing their thing when Arsenal were taking their lap of honour. What class.

Thank you to Rosicky, Arteta and Flamini (I haven’t seen confirmation that he is leaving, just endless speculation).

  11. Gord,
I think the words “according to the media” are all you need to understand what is going on with that non story.

  12. I fear sttotteringham’s day might not come this season but I always hope for it in the corner of my heart all season long.
Thank you to arteta, rosicky and flamini for the wonderful experience they have given us as a goober.

  13. Thanks everyone for comments. Just back home at 8pm, thanks to Blacksheep who lives in London and so gets to the computer quicker for doing his piece. An amazing, amazing game to have been at.

R Savage on Radio 5 called an Arsenal fan who said he was very happy “pathetic” on air. I’ll come back to this in future posts.

It was an honour to have been there, and a privilege.

Thank you to everyone who stayed faithful to Arsenal this season. Second isn’t a trophy, but it is better than 18 other clubs including both from Manchester, Chelsea, Tottenham and State Aid.

  14. As far as I could tell from my seat in the upper East Stand, hardly anyone left the stadium before the lap of appreciation and there were neither signs of banners nor disgruntlement from the crowd. Mind you the result from Newcastle certainly had a lot to do with the overall mood. There were loud cheers of appreciation for Thomas and Mikel. All players were warmly received and there were loud cheers for all of the players children as they scored goals at each end of the ground.

It was a good day in the stadium and don’t pay any attention to any media outlets who try to spin things differently.

True for much of the match at one-nil the Villa supporters loudly our sang those from Arsenal, but once the scoreline from Newcastle became known and we got the second goal it was party time!

  15. It was touching to see how much this club means to Mikel Arteta. He was in tears at the end of the match & waved at all the fans on his way round the stadium with his 3 kids. Tomas was also touched & made a point of waving to all the fans.

Most (98%) of the fans stayed to honour the squad & manager. I must admit I didn’t hear a chorus of ‘one Arsene Wenger’ but then again the continous ‘It’s happened again’ might have drowned it out.

  16. What a pleasant afternoon this has been;

    1) 2nd place…. with the worse team in Arsenal’s history (according to the aaa),
    2) The golden gloves once again in Cech’s hands despite Wenger getting stick for him being the only signing in 2015 (according tothe media and aaa)!
    3) Our beloved footstool St.Totteringham where they belong, in our shadow as per 19 years and counting!
    4) Walter and his fine lady doing their magic at the EMS once again!
    5) A classy farewell to Tomas,Mathieu and Mikel, The Arsenal way….

It is season endings like this that make me love our club even more than usual.

  17. I think we should ALL get together and buy Walter and his wife a season ticket out of gratitudes for what the misses does at the EMS! As far as I know we have never lost or tied when she is with Walter at the EMS!

  18. Apparently, Arsenal finish in first place as far as EPL revenue goes, at just over 100 million pounds.

And, it seems that Duke Bendtner (isn’t he a Duke?) has taken to trolling spuds.

  19. Oh, The Mirror thinks that Peirse Mrgan is a “proper, genuine Arsenal supporter”.

The Mirror probably thinks (old-ish) aqua regia and orange koolaid are the same thing.

  20. Tis our annual trip to the Untold Open air Theatre,to see a one act play-amended for the new stage,of course.
    Happy St.Totteringham’s day!
    COYG!

“ST.TOTTERINGHMAM’S confrontation with a ghostly apparition and the tragical historie of Dr.Faustus Chicken Spude” in 1 Act. Second folio.Non Inferiora Secutus.

    Dramatis persone:

Anon, a ghostly Chicken, all froth and whine.

St.Totteringham, a saint of excellent style and infinite skill.

Actus Primus. A cold night in mid May (black-thorn winter).

Enter the Chicken (moaning and frothing):

“Ooohhhh woe is me! Ooohh poor me! Trapped in anger ever thus and crushed by memories five and fifty past, few save the longe beards can recall such was the last, oh! my kingdom for a coop of wire and wood,of bird feed greene and goode! Yet my eye are but also green with anger and jealousies! Ooooohhh the winde mills of my mind!Tis gone Eastertide, and the Cannon hath risen again!Ooooh cursèd am I,to ever under them be,and usurped! Usurped we can ever see! Our country lanes were infected, what art thou Fortuna? Fickle!Fickle!Fickle! We were here first! What foul perfum`d Wool-rich southern winds have blown these usurpers upon our country woods and by their folly erected theatres of beauty and statues to Judas and others I can but only decry! Even a station was named after them thereby! Oh woe is me, woe woe!Hubble bubble boil and trouble!Ohhhhhhhh forced to wear the horns!Le corna capite!Ohhhhhh”.

    Enter St.Totteringham:

Stay illusion! What? Art thou known to Mephistopheles? What kind of strappado is this, such taxation?Art thou free of self bounty or purely here to venew unbarbed?Or art thou a grobian of the pullum familias that cometh from the yonder forgotten corner of Birnamwoods, that they call the Middle Sex Coop? For thou art not of the citie surely?I often thought a Cooper was a man that maketh barrels for fermented wine, not some frothing beaste of torment and whine. For by my leave there are many a strange fire-side tale from such uncouthe regions, for it is often said that out there in the chlorophyll`d country the swing-buckler folk there doth worship from the Newe Worlde that tis often called Americae, an unnatural base worke, the potatae. Or Spude as tìs known by those who knoweth such things and by which they too are called such and such.Art thou what is named a Spude?
What strange musings are these musings upon the pending eventide of my feast day? Art thou the haunted strange creature from the country chicken lagoon? Or washed upon these Untold shores from the darkest vapours of night and cursed to perform as a Chas and Dave midnight masque until dayes first light or finally purged of thy sins?
Of such Troubadours I have heard, uttering songs that sound like a fowl turd!I have heard of such apparitions indeed, seen upon country lanes well within the deep dark velvet hours by travellers lost and in need! Tis strange indeed to behold such an apparition, to consider such country matters!Repent oh torn spirit! Repent!Begone! He that weareth the statute cap of the chicken shall reek ever more of the odours of the Coop, cursed with blots and stains and breedeth only a stench hence, all noise and uppity.
Good Sirrah, take my advice and change thy Lily livery to red and white, tis but only wise!
Repent!Repent! Thy memorie is steeled with bygone days, memories abased in an alchemical black and white haze, and thence never to gold or silver find, thou art fogged and lost in the mercurial mists of time, when Helen of Troy had blesséd the earth with her beauteous gaze and set sail a thousand ships and cursed the West Ham quite rightly to the lower depths. Hath thou still tears for salad days long hence gone, back in the year ’61? I see that it rankles in thy mind,he that you call Judas, but knoweth he could but retire to win our purpose, and tis often colic for thee I can but imagine, it plagues thy mind, so lust doth play! Think therefore not on such matters and knowe that while with us he was but very a happie winner of Cup and league and Invincibility!
Farewell, thou lob of spirits,I’ll be gone! Repent! Repent! I, St.Totteringham and these Untold goodly Angels of Islington be,doth beg thee repent!- before its too late for thy soul and thou art for ever cursed to worship the Chicken, ever hoping for a new amphitheatre and pondering like Achilles the plough-man that hath lost his sweat and the green corn, to dreamily wonder up at the very vastly canopy the earth and search by thi`stars of heaven and question whence the named of foregone years was never to be incorporated whence, and yet tis thine own thought that maketh torture hence!
To temper these questions tis folly and a foolish ship to put to the winds of memorie, and tis but for the learn`d men that pour over fustian books forsaking the fires of winter to knowe, but foregone names shame us not, but tis more amusing and would take much more than verbal utterances to make such cut-works upon our guts!I have heard tis often winter in the land of chicken and affecteth the mind so beyond the help of any apothecary to be found here, there or anywhere.Tis true?
Yet we urge thee while pondering this too, think on, one Dr.Faustus!Yes he of Wittenberg, a fool. He too followed the Chicken.A cock-a doodle do! Hark his cries as yet in the lower coops of Dantés Cooper-hell!Hark! He too pondered the crowing cock, and twas tempted by the Coopers lust for power and footballe of the white socke, and hath forever since suffered like a severed capon upon a fiery twiggen landscape of rocke, where hence candle and bell could no longer make haven! Repent!Think on Faustus trapped in a Coop of his own making, forced by day to read at no sovereign leisure again and again certain tomes by writers of their empty histories and siege, tales of yore and bore, forevermore, too study only engravings of failings in the Europa League!
Such folio’s that also conjure gladly, nylon trouser flared, sideburn, tabbacco, stacked shoe, and greasy fare, not even to mention ye olde budgie hair, are but trophy-wise,wafer thin?!Not even fourth,as a look-in!
Look ye not at such foul-belched ways of beak and feathers!Cast thy eye not upon such workes, tis folly!.Tis true, the master Doctor hath no idea what fowl thought were bak`d in the pie whence tempted by the strange ways of Haringey and lured by sweet lies of “shift and power” whispered in northern parts by many a nefarious towne crier.
Curséd am I Faustus cried to the night sky, for I should have followe the Cannon,Gun and dear old Holloway! His mind thence was poison’d evermore, swimming in a torment of poor sporting, jealousies and rages and plagued by the lurid ways of the seven deadly sin sisters, forced to watch abased games day after day except where the pungent fumes of gunpowder put paid!Look at that! Look at that!said Les Mots, Son!Repent I tell thee!
Repent!Sirrah,I implore thee! O curséd spirit release thy self from the mad-bred ways of the Lane, the spude and the chicken beaste, and forget thy pain, learn from Dr Faustus, and an Arsenal fan become, the way of the Cannon and the Gun! See him again before thee, cursed to a cooped up hell of torture!Behold his cries for clemency, as he is thus forced to recall Chrissey Waddles hair all mullety! Tis enough for anyone cursed or not think ye not of Lily white and all that froth!
But come, lay down thy tattered and torn feathered shirt of white, and cast not thy beady greenéd- eye upon thy neighbours and singeth under the moon and stars with us upon this merry eve of Saint Totteringham, for I am he!And come, let us sing a Friars canto mallimaufry :”chick, chick, chick, chicken, lay a little spude for me its happened again after Easter, and you’re stuck at number three, oh chick, chick, chick chicken lay a little spude for me”…
But Hark! The dawn cometh the Northern striped dogge has beaten thee five to one, like, and I am much glad thence! The drums must sound and the shall cannons roar! Begone oh fowl apparition! Gramercy for the dawn! For today is Saint Totteringhams day and I am he and feast shall we! And all these Untold years thus a feast day tis, begone to thy coop and darken these skies no more! For merry making must we and thou must from this place fly!Begone!
But if I and these here Untold Angels of Islington have offended, think but this and all is amended, that you have slumbered here while these words did appear, and I ask good folk do not reprehend, for if you pardon you will mend. And as I am honest Gun, if we have somehow unearnéd this here very sun, now to escape the chickens tongue,we will make amends long, else a liar the Gun you call, and goodnight unto chickens one and all!
So give me your hands if we be friends, and the cannon shall make always amends, and sing out loud”its happened again, its happened again, Tottenham Hotspur, its happened again!”

    Adieu!

(in the background the sounds of merriment begin and torturous cries of potatoes can be heard)

Chicken: “Oooohhhhh, woe is me,oooohhh we were here first!Oohhhhhhhhhhhh woe is me curséd to thought of Perryman and former memorie”.

    Exeunt.

  21. Controlled explosion today in Manchester
Uncontrolled implosion ……straight out of Tottenham

  22. Wonderful wonderful day for us Gonner’s and thank you Arsene Wenger for taking us yet again into the CL. Thank you to the players who fought for us to get that 2nd place. To TR, MA and MF my love and thanks you will always have for the wonderful football and loving this club the way any Gooner worth their salt loves her. How lucky are we to have had these players when the going got tough, we owe them a debt of gratitude.
To all the haters, well Arsene has really made you look what you are and then some. Le Prof once again showed his class and great dignity when the haters turned yet again on him and his team. We are so very lucky to have had this man and IF this maybe his last year(I hope not) I hope with everything inside me he goes out with PL title and more and maybe then those who wanted him gone for so long will finally come to realise what we have really lost. Once again he has made the media and the so called pundits eat their words and that’s the reason why they cannot stand him.
Well done the Gunners and a very very Happy ST Tottenrings Day to you all.

  23. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. As Spurs imploded and we got our game together all factions of the Arsenal supporters came together. Maybe the euphoria will last for a bit.

  24. BREAKING NEWS:
Reports coming out of Old Trafford have confirmed that the suspicious package was a new contract for Louis Van Gaal.

  25. Oh that wonderful medja

One source authoritatively said that St. Totteringham’s Day dates to 2002. Another source authoritatively says it dates to Ossie Ardiles time at Tottenham as manager (1993-94), in part making fun of the Argintinian’s broken English.

Chiark.greenend.org.uk has the first St.Totteringham Day as April 22, 1911.

One spud fan, definitely remembers St.Totteringham Day happening as far back as 1996, when he started following a chicken (wondering when it was going to cross the road I suspect). He goes on to bad mouth Arsenal, but hey that is expected. 🙂

Maybe Tony has a definitive history?

Being a materials science and engineering person, I hope that one day I cross paths with Mathiew Flamini.

  26. From Walter and Carine: a happy St. totteringhamsday!!!!

It was really amazing to be in the stadium together with my wife. It had a special personal emotion for both of us to which I will not elaborate as it is personal. Apart from saying that my wife is beating the odds of what has been predicted a few years ago.

The record of me and my wife being together in and around the Emirats is really amazing. 3 wins out of 3. 13 goals for and non against. Even one penalty in favour for Arsenal (the last one we got at the Emirates)

And meeting up with all those wonderful people from literally all over the world… becoming an Arsenal supporter if really one of the best things ever happened in my life.

    COYG!

Oh before forget it: it happened again, it happened again…. tottenham hotspurs it happened again

of the version: because you are shit sounded also rather nice in my ears

  27. Because St Totteringham’s Day is rather late this year (mainly due to the incompetence of the PGMO) doesn’t mean it was not enjoyed as much as always – if not more so. What a fantastic final day of the season!

Best wishes to Arteta, Rosicky and Flamini – three very fine professionals, hope they all have a great future career, if not playing then in management etc.

  28. When the parade came past the North Bank, where I was, the stand broke out into a loud chorus of One Arsene Wenger and the great man gave us a wave.

Best match I’ve ever attended. Wonderful experience. Everybody round me was ecstatic.

  29. Feel a little silly having waitd for motd, the muppets concentrated on negatives only. And I don’t think the highlights were even longer than five minutes, for a match with such importance too. Anyway, didn’t expect anything different really.

All the best to Arteta (sad to see him in tears) and Rosicky. Also Flamster if he’s leaving. Jack’s celebration on the touchline for Giroud’s second, priceless. Shows how much this club means to him. No wonder he got involved in singing along with the fans last season that led to him getting fined; sure that’s a fine he was very happy to pay 🙂

  30. Haters are always gonna hate. Really thought the smurfs at Motd would be a little more humble today after we secured 2nd place. But no, its still not good enough. Even Jurgen Klopp gets more praise for finnishing 8th!!! They even managed to say that Spurs have had a wonderful season ??? I bet if we would have won it this year we would have gotten any credit because it would be only because everyone else was so bad…

Anyway, congrats to the boys and the staff. 2nd isnt a disaster in my book, 21 years and counting 🙂

  31. You could not believe motd.We finished 2nd and spent 17m.We were better than City,Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool and spent less and end up getting more stick.I think that AW looked more happier than even when we won the F.A. Cup last year.Yes, there needs things to be done, but lets all sit back and read, listen to the w…k… of the media sqirm, especially when they have to say”Arsenal runners up”.

  32. MOTD home of the numpty. What a waste of licence fee money paying two thickos & a cheat.

    We know what you are,
    we know what you are,
    M O T D we know what you are.

  33. Just like to add my gratitude to Arteta, Rosicky, & Flamini for their commitment to this great club, they are an example to us all.

MOTD what a waste of TV licence Money on three has been’s of yesteryear, Unfortunately the programme has become an agenda ridden mouth piece of Anti Arsenal Bile.

  34. It’s about 8 hours since the end of the game I believe. For most of the past 8 hours, the medja articles aren’t great, but they aren’t terrible either. About 1 hour ago, quality decided to take a leap down to being crap again.

I really don’t care that the news organizations are having a problem finding out where their income is going to come from in the Internet age. They are all just so much never ending crap. At least on the sport side. News seems to be a little better, but I still don’t know if they are worth trying to help.

  35. What a game! Happy St. Totteringham’s Day! Great way to end the season!

I hope the posters that were talking bad about the club and propping up the Spurs, come back to Untold and apologize for their overreactions throughout the season!

  36. By the way wherea Tom Herbs Army and other AAAs n Wobs today.
Arsenal finsihed 2nd and could have finished 1st also had Cazorla and Alexis didnt get injured unfortunately in the same match.
The PGMo gifting Leicester a handful of points was another reason imo.

  37. Great day! Well done to all Gunners, and congratulations to all Gooners.

I think we missed Cazorla so so much in the second part of the season. Let’s hope for an injury free season next year.

  38. @ Kenneth Widmerpool -May 15, 2016 at 9:26 pm – AWESOME ! Great piece of writing , well done .
Its this type of quality posts that make UA the number one Arsenal blog in my book ! But then again , I may be quite biased as this is the only blog that I ever read !

Anyway , how is the general mood overall in ‘them’ blogs and in those Spuds ‘ blogs ? A sense of dumbfounderment ? Of incredulity ? Or of Que sera sera-ness ?

  39. @pete just saw your comment.
Yes fair enough I really didn’t think we would finish 2nd, so well done all those who believed that we could do so.

Although it was great to finish above Spurs again it was mainly down to them giving up after losing the title rather than Arsenal coming through with a strong finish at the end of the season. Spurs still sadly provided the closest challenge to Leicester, you can’t deny that. We have not really been in contention since early March.

Let’s just hope Mr Wenger learns from the mistakes of this season.
