According to today’s media Sea Kolasinac is the strongest player Arsene Wenger has in his squad, and perhaps the strongest player he has ever worked with. Which must make him good at playing wugger or whatever that game is called that they play in the Potteries.
So they immediately dig up the nickname The Bosnian Hulk (not very original) and cue comparisons with Lauren, Patrick Vieira and Sol Campbell. Mr Wenger said “He uses quite well the strength of his body without violence and when he intervenes it doesn’t look to be a foul, he just uses his body strength.
“Watching him, I thought he had the quality. I met him and he had a good spirit and a good attitude, so basically overall it was a no-brainer for us.” Exactly the sort of player we have been missing, according to Mr Wenger. As indeed he reminded the assembled hacks…
“When we built the stadium we had to sell these players and we played with very young players, and at 18, 19, when we played Fabregas or Nasri when they were very young they had not the experience to deal with that so much. And we had less-physical players on top of that maybe, but as well most of the time it was because we had a very young team.
“He uses quite well the strength of his body without violence and when he intervenes it doesn’t look to be a foul, he just uses his body strength. It is an important quality to help adapt to the Premier League.”
Apparently Jesé Rodríguez now of Stoke was out injured for nine months after a challenge from Kolasinac during a match between Real Madrid and Schalke in March 2014. It was is described as a shuddering thud. So when we think of the Evil Entity (Shaw Cross) we now know who to send over to have a quiet word with him.
Meanwhile the talk about Arsenal now in the media is that Arsenal have “no excuses” for… well anything. And it is interesting that Kolasinac made nine assists for Schalke last season – although obviously not while playing in a back three where he will probably play again today.
“He has the capacity to repeat runs, and we noticed when we watched him play that he is quite dangerous in the final third,” said Mr Wenger. “He already has some assists since he came here, so overall maybe he is not a glamorous dribbler but the quality of his runs is very efficient.
“There is something there and you feel that from the crowd. The determined attitude gets to the crowd and the crowd responds to that, and that gives a swing to the team, you can see that with him and when he intervenes he provokes happiness.”
So what of the Evil Empire? How have they been doing of late?
Since fighting (and in their case I mean this literally) their way into the Premier League they have finished ninth on three occasions, 11th, 12th, 13th on three occasions and 14th.
Their top scorer during that period in terms of league goals was the Crouch fella who once got 14. He was the top scorer again last season with 10. And in 2013/14 with… 10. In each of the last two seasons they scored 41 goals, which must make watching them quite enjoyable compared with 2012/13 when they scored 34. Top scorer Walters with 11.
Here’s their last ten from last season
Date | Game | Res | Score |
18 Mar | Stoke City v Chelsea | L | 1-2 |
01 Apr | Leicester City v Stoke City | L | 2-0 |
04 Apr | Burnley v Stoke City | L | 1-0 |
08 Apr | Stoke City v Liverpool | L | 1-2 |
15 Apr | Stoke City v Hull City | W | 3-1 |
22 Apr | Swansea City v Stoke City | L | 2-0 |
29 Apr | Stoke City v West Ham | D | 0-0 |
06 May | Bournemouth v Stoke City | D | 2-2 |
13 May | Stoke City v Arsenal | L | 1-4 |
21 May | Southampton v Stoke City | W | 0-1 |
So that was two wins, six defeats and two draws. During this spell they scored nine goals in ten games. and conceded 16. This season they lost 1-0 to Everton.
Now if we look at their last six matches (last season and this) they have scored two goals or more just the once (in the draw with Bournemouth). Arsenal have scored at least two goals in each of their last six and at least two in five of our last six against Stoke.
In fact if we go back through our run towards the end of last season and add this season in, it is looking fairly decent (not that you would know if from any newspaper reporting).

Of course I might be totally mistaken in my appraisal of this, but this list of games looks rather good to me and that set of results does not seem to be taken into account by many commentators.
Yes, I must be mistaken. Arsenal can’t have a run of results like that. Otherwise the press would be speaking about them favourably.

Stoke is one of the few teams with two entries.
The Press, after all, always have blinkers on which allow them to see only what is anti-Arsenal. Long may it continue so AFC can soar ever higher and confound all their permutations.
Good morning Mr Drummond, and how is everyone doing today at Untold Arsenal? I hope they are all doing well. Glory be to God for His enduring mercies forever on us.
Let me assured the sundry of all the Gooners that there in no cause for any alarmed for us to start getting afraid or panicking as to what kind of blow the Potters will dealt the Gunners at their bet365 Stadium this evening. Because Arsenal who have been fully prepared for the collection of all points at stake in this PL match and have the adequate capacity to win the match are the very ones that will dealt a big blow on Stoke City by beating them by 3 away goals scoreline to Stoke City not registering a single goal whatsoever on the score sheet at the final blowing of the whistle by referee Andre Marriner bringing proceedings in the game to an end.
Let’s calm things down. The BFG with Mustafi & Monreal and Kolasinac where ever the Boss needs him. Attack will take care of itself, plenty of options. Let Lacazette run ’em ragged and then Giroud finish them off. There will be rebounds for those working the box.
The decidedly left-sided Monreal as CB.
I hope it works out.
Otherwise the side looks great and certainly good enough to sort out the Stoke cloggers AND quiet the gruesome home crowd.
Hope the referee is fair and strong. 😉
You misguided fool, nicky…for hoping the referee would be strong and fair.
They don’t exist. 😉
