Arsenal have of course played just two League Cup games so far this season, beating Doncaster and Norwich. But our second team, the team we have been calling Arsenal II this season has played six other games – in the Europa League. So I thought it might be interesting to put all the results together for Arsenal II, on the basis that this is the essence of the team that will play against the State Aided team.
Date | Game | Res | Score | Competition |
14 Sep 2017 | Arsenal v 1.FC Köln | W | 3-1 | UEFA Europa League |
20 Sep 2017 | Arsenal v Doncaster Rovers | W | 1-0 | League Cup |
28 Sep 2017 | FC BATE Borisov v Arsenal | W | 2-4 | UEFA Europa League |
19 Oct 2017 | Crvena Zvezda v Arsenal | W | 0-1 | UEFA Europa League |
24 Oct 2017 | Arsenal v Norwich City | W | 2-1 | League Cup |
02 Nov 2017 | Arsenal v Crvena Zvezda | D | 0-0 | UEFA Europa League |
23 Nov 2017 | 1.FC Köln v Arsenal | L | 1-0 | UEFA Europa League |
07 Dec 2017 | Arsenal v FC BATE Borisov | W | 6-0 | UEFA Europa League |
By and large not a bad set of results with Arsenal winning six, drawing one and losing one, and with a goals tally of 17 for and five against across eight games. So our average score is somewhere between 2-0 and 2-1 for the Arsenal II side. Not too bad at all.
Obviously in terms of success in the competitions we have everything we wanted – we won the group stage of the Europa and are through to the quarter final of the League Cup.
Our last ten games overall have given us three defeats (Manchester Utd, Manchester City and 1.FC Köln) with five wins and two draws.
The State Aided club have also used a second team, although as shown in our earlier piece they generally play three or four players from the first team in it. I suspect they will do the same as their drive is to stay in the Premier League, even though relegation will mean a significant decline in the already tiny rent that they pay for the amusing called London Stadium.
West Ham’s away form has been moderately modest this season… even more modest than Arsenal’s
Pos | Club | P | W | D | L | F | A | GD | Pts |
9 | Arsenal | 9 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 9 | 13 | -4 | 9 |
10 | AFC Bournemouth | 9 | 2 | 2 | 5 | 6 | 11 | -5 | 8 |
11 | Brighton and Hove Albion | 9 | 2 | 1 | 6 | 5 | 11 | -6 | 7 |
12 | Everton | 9 | 1 | 4 | 4 | 7 | 17 | -10 | 7 |
13 | Huddersfield Town | 9 | 2 | 1 | 6 | 7 | 19 | -12 | 7 |
14 | Southampton | 8 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 10 | -5 | 6 |
15 | West Bromwich Albion | 9 | 1 | 3 | 5 | 4 | 10 | -6 | 6 |
16 | West Ham United | 10 | 1 | 3 | 6 | 9 | 21 | -12 | 6 |
17 | Swansea City | 8 | 1 | 2 | 5 | 4 | 8 | -4 | 5 |

20 | Stoke City | 9 | 1 | 2 | 6 | 9 | 21 | -12 | 5 |
One win, three draws, six defeats and nine goals – less than one a game. Arsenal’s home form just counting the Arsenal II games at the Ems has been five wins and one draw with 12 goals scored.
To compare this with West Ham II (maybe it is West Ham 1.5 but for consistency let’s call it West Ham II), we can show them in both the league cup and the league trophy
Date | Match | Res | Score | Competition |
15 Aug 2017 | Swindon Town v West Ham | W | 2-3 | League Trophy |
23 Aug 2017 | Cheltenham Town v West Ham | W | 0-2 | League Cup |
19 Sep 2017 | West Ham United v Bolton W | W | 3-0 | League Cup |
25 Oct 2017 | Tottenham Hotspur v West Ham | W | 2-3 | League Cup |
31 Oct 2017 | Bristol Rovers v West Ham | W | 1-3 | League Trophy |
28 Nov 2017 | Wycombe Wanderers v West Ham | L | 2-0 | League Trophy |
05 Dec 2017 | Luton Town v West Ham United | L | 4-0 | League Trophy |
West Ham 1.5 have done rather well, winning five games in a row, including beating Tottenham at Wembley in their last League cup match.
The League Trophy, in case you are not familiar with it is a competition for League One and League Two clubs along with 16 Premier League and Championship academy/under-21 sides. I was hoping to put in an up to date League Trophy table for West Ham’s group but the tables I have found only show WHU having played three games, whereas the list of fixtures has them having played four.
We’ll look at Arsenal’s form as an Under 23 team in the next report and compare it with West Ham’s.
- Ozil thoughts, future thoughts, forgotten player thoughts, clear as mud thoughts, frightening thoughts
- Arsenal v West Ham United. Do we continue to use the reserves for this game?
Even if you don’t have much interest in Arsenal’s history, you will probably have heard that in 1919 Arsenal were elected to the first division. You may even have heard that there was skulduggery afoot and that Henry Norris was at the heart of it all.
The full truth is currently being revealed for the first time in the long running series on “Henry Norris at the Arsenal” from the Arsenal History Society. We’ve just reached the end of 1918, and I can tell you, whatever you have heard before will not be the reality that actually unfolded in that extraordinary period.
Arsenal, 11 – 31 December 1918. A 9-2 victory, the chairman becomes an MP, footballers unionise has just been published, with the story continuing every two or three days. And oh yes, there is definitely some match fixing involved.

This will certainly help and shows some momentum, personally Disney can win all the rights they like after saying they would rather not appoint any senior staff from Sky including Rupert’s offspring!¬ 😀
With due regards, Let’s keep Disney’s entertainment media empire building aside for now and focus on Arsenal vs West Ham Carabao Cup quarter final match taking place tomorrow night at the Emirates Stadium. Right?
If Le Boss line up Mr Attwood’s starts and bench for this match which were on the last Arsenal vs West Ham thread, that starts and bench look strong enough to tilt victory in the game on Arsenal side.
However, I don’t want Le Boss to succumb to the thought being pedalled around in some quarters saying, West Ham will field their team II against Arsenal team II in this match. to allude to such pedalled illusion is dangerous and could turnout to be unproductive.
Therefore, Le Boss should allow himself to be guided by making a powerful starts and bench for this match which the West Hammers cannot dare in the game but fall to it’s superior fire power in the game even if David Moyes decided to field his West Ham team I for this match, Arsenal will still beat them to send them packing from the competition this season.
