By Tony Attwood
Arsenal, as we know, have just gone 17 games unbeaten – not just the longest in the Premier League at the moment but the longest in Europe’s main leagues. If things work out ok in the Ukraine – assuming we can fly in and out ok, that could well be increased before the Tottenham match, but hatching chickens and not counting them come to mind at this point.
Anyway leaving aside Trophy matches Tottenham are on an unbeaten run themselves of five – and notably these are five straight wins.
Date | Game | Res | Score | Competition |
29 Oct 2018 | Tottenham v Manchester City | L | 0-1 | Premier League |
31 Oct 2018 | West Ham United v Tottenham | W | 1-3 | League Cup |
03 Nov 2018 | Wolverhampton v Tottenham | W | 2-3 | Premier League |
06 Nov 2018 | Tottenham v PSV Eindhoven | W | 2-1 | Champions League |
10 Nov 2018 | Crystal Palace v Tottenham | W | 0-1 | Premier League |
24 Nov 2018 | Tottenham H v Chelsea | W | 3-1 | Premier League |
By way of comparison, Manchester City are on a run of 13 without defeat. Liverpool are on a run of two without defeat. Chelsea are on a run of none, having lost at the weekend, and Manchester United are on a run of one – a goalless draw with Palace.
So it is Arsenal and Manchester City streaking out ahead in the undefeated lists.
And while we are thinking about goals here is another set of lists
- Sergio Agüero: 8 goals, 121 minutes per goal
- Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: 8 goals, 118 minutes per goal.
- Raheem Sterling: 7 goals, 134 minutes per goal
- Eden Hazard: 7 goals, 125 minutes per goal
- Mohamed Salah: 7 goals, 160 minutes per goal
- Harry Kane: 7 goals, 166 minutes per goal.
All of which makes Mr Augameyang the most effective scorer of multiple goals in the league at the moment.
That Mr Kane takes over three quarters of an hour more to score a goal than Pierre Emerick. Quite a lot really. And this probably explains why Arsenal have scored more goals than Tottenham (28 to 23).
But the big worry is that Tottenham away record. They are in fact top of the away charts…

Arsenal’s home form reads

1 | Manchester City | 7 | 7 | 0 | 0 | 27 | 4 | 23 | 21 |

5 | Arsenal | 7 | 4 | 2 | 1 | 12 | 6 | 6 | 14 |
So we’re going to have to up our game while they take their foot off the pedal for us to win.
Last season, incidentally both clubs scored exactly the same number of league goals. And in fact last season was when Tottenham started to evolve their away strategy, being the second best performer away from home across the whole season with 10 wins, four draws, five defeats. On the other hand last season at home we had 15 wins, two draws and two defeats, so I’m hopeful it will all work out.
If the flights work out ok I should be back just in time to get to the ground to watch the game so the lads had better make it worth it or I shall be jolly cross.

Has anyone seen who we have refereeing the Spurs game? I’ll give you one guess… And the fact that everyone will come up with the same name should more than speak for itself.
Torvill’s friend?
So utterly predicatable. If you were allowed to bet on refereeing appointments, the bookies would never offer odds on this one. Sickening.
While I won’t deny that Arsenal have frequently suffered at Dean’s hands in the past, he has never been a friend to Spurs either. We’ve regularly been on the wrong end of his bad decisions. And though, I know that you will claim otherwise (and did claim otherwise at the time) but a number of big calls went against Spurs in the game that Arsenal won 2-0 last season. I suspect that, because of the risible and inaccurate perception that Dean is a Spurs fan (stemming from his own self congratulation after an advantage decision was proven to be correct), he overcompensates now to prove that he isn’t a Spurs fan (he supports Tranmere).
Some kind of corruption story supposedly about the IOC, but FIFA mentioned a few times in the story.

SportsKeeda seems to have a blurb on the same story.
Here is a slightly different point of view on the big battery.

I don’t know where they got the information, but yes it appears we get dancing mike dean for the game against the spuds.

JimB – Every fan can think of a few examples of a certain referee making a decision against their team, but when that happens in literally every single game that that referee is involved in it becomes a completely different matter.
The very moment Dean celebrated a Spurs goal he should have been banned from any game involving them, let alone a North London derby.
JimB…..we can all agree that injustice from poor officiating is a plague on ALL EPL teams regardless.
