Andre Marriner was the ref for this match. And what a match he got in the end.

The game started rather slowly on the decision making front. And in the first 8 minutes the ref managed to make 2 errors one after the other. First a foul from Lucas was not punished on Zaha and then Townsend landed on the foot from Monreal. The ref gave the foul but as Townsend was a bit reckless in his tackle he should have got a yellow card.

And then all correct decisions till just after the half hour mark when Elneny tripped Zaha and nothing was given. I wonder if there is some history between Marinner and Zaha from the past where the ref was fooled by a dive or so?

Not much decisions, a perfectly good goal,  a few minor errors that gave the ref a first half score of 81.2% and 78.9% (Weighted). Good.

In the second half ref Marriner just continued what he had been doing before the half time tea. Arsenal scored another perfectly valid goal and then the match was played out, one could say. Crystal Palace not being able to raise their game made it an easy match for the ref.

Two errors in the second half only. One was when Flamini kicked the ball out for a corner but the ref gave a goalkick. As I jokingly said in the match report: maybe the ref didn’t know that Flamini is no longer an Arsenal player. And then around the 74th minute Ward placed his foot on the ball but also on the foot of Bellerin. That should have been a yellow card against Ward for being reckless. Maybe that was the moment that Bellerin got his injury?

But apart from that all his decisions were noted as correct and that gave him a score in the second half of 86.6% and 85.0% (Weighted) Very Good.

As you can expect the final score is also good. Over the whole 90 minutes he got an overall score of 83.8% and 82.0% (Weighted) Very Good

A very good performance just what everyone wants from every referee in football. No major errors made.

More of this? Alas, I think this will be the exception that confirms the rule that refs make too many mistakes.

  1. It certainly felt like a game where the Ref didn’t do a bad job…
Very rare to get that feeling in PL games for the last few seasons.

  2. I see no mention in the press of any problems with any ManU scoring tonight. Surely the press doesn’t make mistakes of this magnitude?

Or is that spelled ManUtude? 🙂

  3. Okay, doesn’t surprise me. Sagna gets buried for calling the PGMO a source of bring the game into disrepute, and the PGMO which spends all its time bringing the game into disrepute just merrily goes on its way.

    bleech!

  4. How many offside goals is that now gord? And when does it even out for us? As so far we have a shitloads of offside goals against!

  5. The fixtures this weekend suggest that this will be one of those weekends where things at the top of the table are shaken up.

Arsenal needs to make sure of winning their game for real.

    //
Players and Clubs need to refuse (and take a better stand against) to pay for silly rules designed solely to garner easy money from peoples emotions. Form an organisation to combat senseless rules and punishments!

But they probably are rolling in money where a £10.000 fine is like a £100 fine to us, so they are not making the effort.

  6. Keep up the good work UA.
It must be painful for the media and AAA who think UA is biased.
Marriner doing a good job and UA reporting is a kick on the back of people who think UA only moan about refs.

  7. Am sure that we will soon be finding out the bumbling PIGMOB officials are mostly clinically , chronically or legally half blind .
