Arsenal shortlist for the final signing of the season, and high praise from the Guardian!

By Sir Hardly Anyone

Before I go on, you might recall our little commentary about a story in the Metro about players Mr Wenger said he wasn’t selling, and then sold.  Well, it has cropped up again on Sportskeeda – only to ensure that they are not doing for breaching copyright in the original article, they’ve put the players in a different order!  Crafty or what!!!

Anyway…

Do we need anyone else to join the squad?

Many would say, you can never have enough, but given the 25 limit, and the fact that if a player sees a fellow pro who goes to a club and then never gets a game, he (whomsoever he is) may then decide not to join.  How the transferees of the past have been treated will always impact on the likelihood of attracting the players wanted in the future.

Apropos this, or maybe not, one blog recently said, “On the incoming side of Arsenal’s transfer window, we can’t really complain about the arrivals of Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac, but condisering (sic) that we came 5th in the Premiership last season, we must realise that we have to improve enough to leapfrog the 4 teams above us and must surely make one or two more top quality additions

“Get your finger out Arsene!”

And look, what’s this, the Guardian is on a different tack.  “Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette were both nailed down early on and look fine signings…” [note the abundant craftyness the blog and the Guard who each write the players names in a DIFFERENT ORDER just to show no one is cheating – just like Sportskeeda did]; “…there hasn’t, when we cut to the chase, been too much sign of Alexis Sánchez or Mesut Özil leaving either and at the current rate of knots you might be forgiven for thinking Thursday really will be the next Friday in Islington from next month.”

And that is high praise indeed from the Guardian.  Never in the history of history have they been so positive about the club.  Nor so incomprehensible.  Never!!!

But that doesn’t mean we are not signing anyone.  Here’s the top 10.

1:  Jadon Sancho

Borussia Dortmund have reportedly joined the race Jadon Sancho, and are set to battle Arsenal and Tottenham.  So that’s us done then.  We’ll be too slow.  All that sherry quaffing in the boardroom I’ll be bound.   And Sancho is a “Manchester City wonderkid” too.

He joined Manchester City from Watford in 2015, and has since “rapidly progressed through the ranks to be on the cusp of making the senior grade.   Which is Mancunian for the fact that he played for the reserves.

2: Marco Asensio

Back in the Guardian, repository of liberal values, suggest that the man we need might be Marco Asensio saying, “Yes, Real Madrid’s boy wonder is apparently on their radar and would go down just nicely as a long-term replacement for their want-away Chilean…”

Apparently he’s the 21-year-old wonderkid.  Yep another. And the friends of the Daily Mail, Le Grove, think he’s coming our way too.   But they go on to suggest PSG is where he should go, because PSG ain’t getting Neymar.

3: Riyad Mahrez

But there is another option in the offing, as it were.  For we are told Leicester City have dropped their asking price for Riyad Mahrez to £40million.  Tottenham also fancy their chances as do Roma, but I don’t know if Mahrez speaks Roman.   But you can always tell when there is nothing else to report on a story when the old facts are then trotted out – apparently Mahrez won the title with Leicester.  Well, I never knew that.

4: Rafinha

However there is more because Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona midfielder Rafinha for £27m, according to Sky Sports.   He has a knee injury which according to some parts of the media make him a perfect Arsenal signing.

The 24-year-old did not travel to the USA with his teammates, and we have quite a few who avoided the food poisoning by not going to China which makes us a match.

On the other hand we are not getting Thomas Muller and nor are Liverpool, Chelsea nor Manchester United according to SportBild.  Anyway another report says he wasn’t much good last season.

Actually playingfor90 (a bloggetta) says that we “ought to” go after him, suggesting that Arsenal haven’t thought of it yet.

5: Leon Goretzka

This deal however is apparently far from over because according to Joachim Low “It seems to be clear he is carefully planning his next steps and we are trying to ignore the whole issue surrounding his club career.”

6: Thomas Lemar

Arsenal have been chasing the winger all summer and are desperate to complete the deal.  Yes utterly desperate.  Desperately desperate in fact.   Monaco are not demanding £80m because Monaco only price players in euros.

7. Kylian Mbappe – it’s a waste of time (Talksprout)

Don’t say you thought this was all over.   Wenger has reportedly spoken to the player in a three-hour meeting in which he expressed his interest in signing him.  So the Mirror says.  Was that tapping up then?

8: William Carvalho.

According to Portuguese publication Record, Arsenal have renewed their interest in Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.  But have they told the club?  Probably too slow!

9:  Thomas Muller

On the other hand we are not getting Thomas Muller and nor are Liverpool, Chelsea nor Manchester United according to SportBild.  Anyway another report says he wasn’t much good last season.

Actually playingfor90 (a bloggetta) says that we “ought to” go after him, suggesting that Arsenal haven’t thought of it yet.  So maybe we will.

10: Pourquoi ne pas offrir pour Vidal?

Yep that is the headline in the Loose Cannon, or it would be if they wrote in French.  They continue,

“If Inter Milan are reportedly lining up a £45m bid for Bayern Munich’s Arturo Vidal, why don’t Arsenal follow suit.

“One way to stop this Alexis Sanchez transfer saga would be to sign one of his international team-mates, and Vidal is something special. He’s not only got skill, but he has a phenomenal work rate too. Vidal would be an amazing signing and cheap at the price at anything less than £50m.”

So there we are.  Do you detect that this summer the bloggettas and their friends down the pub are getting just a bit weary a bit early and as a result a bit less inventive.   In fact are we facing a major

SHOCK HORROR CRISIS IN JOURNALISTIC MAKE BELIEVE.

  1. Wenger, he better get serious in the market for more signings. At the look of things Arsenal needs to offload some players who are really big jokers and buy more 4 quality players. Wenger has the equation I cant understand why he is not applying it. If he reflect back to the unbeatable in 2004, Arsenal needs sharper midfielders not the likes of Ramsey and Coklin not…never will they equate their skills with Gilberto Silver and Veira. Wenger should break the bank if need be and buy substantial players after all it is not his money and his time for retirement is knocking on the door. Wenger stop being stubborn and get the fans happiness back!I looked at Chealsea match I am very sure that nothing is gonna change as long as Wenger remains in the driving sit.

  2. Quick question
What’s your take of Wenger/Arsenal treatment of Lucas Perez?

  3. The ditherer will sign one.yes that’s right.one more player.once again leaving us woefully short.oh well.september & October is going to be fun at the ems hey?i can hear the planes engines Reving up already!

  4. n, LAZAR MARKOVIC just the man to replace CORZOLA on lone from LIVERPOOL to hull city L.Markovic was MAN OF THE MATCH against ARSENAL a22yrs Liverpool will listen to offers 20 million, for regular first team football.lazar would jump to play for ARSENAL. DO NOT DELAY.

Are you sure you are on the right site, Untold is for people who think for themselves. Maybe you meant to post on Le Grove.

  6. In addition to the 2 signings of Kolasinac and Lakazette whom they’ve already signed this summer, Arsenal will still need to sign 2 more new players during this summer transfer window if my thoughts on correct strengthening of the current Arsenal first team squad hold any water in it.

To be frank and to be kindid, Arsenal still need 2 more top quality additions of a holding midfielder in the like of William Carvalho or Nemanja Matic, and a versatile attacking midfielder of the caliber of Thomas Lemar or Riyad Marehz to their current first team squad this summer. But will Le Prof accept my or our believes in this regard and do these 2 more top quality signings this summer, to add them to the 2 signings he has already done this summer? Which will bring his total senior team signings this summer to 4 signings if he does the 2 additional signings which will be contrary to his earlier statement at the end of last season’s campaign when he said, he’ll do only 2 – 3 senior team signings this summer. But at another occasion during this summer break, He was quoted to have said duing his Australia press conference that he is open to more signings. Let’s take note of his usage of the plural word ‘signings’. Which means he will do more than the 2 – 3 signings he originally said he’ll do this summer. Therefore, we are waiting for him to see which 2 more senior team signings he’ll do before or on the dead line transfer day.

The current Arsenal 25 man first team squad list of last season contains four obvious first teamers who have been on the fringes at Arsenal for quite some times now, and have been slated to leave the club on out going transfer this summer. Therefore, if Kieran Gibbs, Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson and Lucas Perez who all look to be the ones slated to Arsenal this summer eventually left, I think there should be 2 – 3 more man space left in the 25 man list to take in 2 more signings this summer.

  7. Cracked it!!! Wenger should listen to the guy called UWAT, he cant spell, punctuate or think rationally but believes he knows better than the manager of 21 years, its because Wenger does not listen to fans (such as UWAT is a fan), that he has survived for so long, Its a sad fact, football is littered with irrational fools with severley limited brainpower.

  8. @Stefan,

the fact is we know zilch
What we know is that he was injured for part of the season, if I am right during winter which was too bad as he just had a few games scoring goals.
We know that he can score

And that all these so called ‘articles’ are 99.9 % lies, bluffing and manipulation

So I’d just take it easy, server myself a glass of whatever and enjoy the day.

I would not mind to keep him and have him play regularly.

    Sorry for my reposting.

  10. @Stephan,
Rarely do I criticise Arsene Wenger about arrivals and departures from the Ems, purely because we supporters know so little about the behind-the-
    scenes goings on.
Having said that though, there does appear to be prima facie signs that Lucas Perez has not received the fair and equitable
treatment for which Arsenal is noted.
When called upon as a sub, his performances were invariably well-received, although up to now the chances to progress have been few.
And the latest award of the No.9 shirt to Lacassette must have been a cruel blow.
I think we will have to await Arsene Wenger’s autobiography before learning of this and other tantalising matters. 😉

  11. @Nicky
Can you remember his agent said so very early that he is definitely leaving? The Arsenal I know wouldn’t do such without their good reasons. Even Debuchy who was to be sold a year ago did not have his number reassigned.

  12. Patrick to leap from the assertion that Arsenal need more players to one that says that not buying them is Wenger’s fault is a hell of a leap. A little evidence would not go amiss.

  13. Announcing that a player will not be sold for £x is not the same as agreeing to sell at £x++. It’s called negotiation and perhaps we are getting rather better at it!

  14. One of my best mates is a bar man at one of the top hotels in London, I can’t say which one as I am sworn to secrecy. Anyway he has just told me that Guardiola arrived at the hotel early this morning and an hour ago Sanchez arrived and was quickly shown to the same room as the Man City manager.
Despite the fact that Sanchez was disguised with a false beard, large plastic nose and glasses his identity was given away by the fact he had two Labrador retrievers with him, one of which shit on the carpet in the entrance hall. One of the chamber maids who is Spanish is hiding in their room secretly listening to their private conversation and I will be able to reveal whether Sanchez is going to Man City later today so watch this space.

  15. Why would we sign players like Elnenney and Perez, then not play them? On the odd accasions they have been called upon, neither has been awful, in fact, quite the opposite.

Is it because they weren’t really Wenger signings – but players imposed on the manager by somebody on the board?

BTW, despite the way things have turned out, six million for Jack is a joke.

Some very strange goings on IMO!

  16. @MickHazel; 25/07/2017 at 11:13 am

You terrible, terrible child! You have joined the “Spotted at the (Hotel/Airport/Realtor/etc.)” gangs?

    😉

  17. Patrick buzima oli ekifire,so who do you have in mind to replace Le Prof? And as professional sewer rat why do you think the board has given Wenger another contract?

  18. Ledge, please tell us how you know ElNeny and Perez weren’t injured and were match-fit when they weren’t picked for the playing squad?
Also where did you get this 6m number from.
It sounds to me as though you actually believe the media drivel…
