The 15 biggest rumours currently doing the rounds and the real reason Mr Wenger is leaving

By Sir Hardly Anyone

We have no manager for the summer, so logically we can’t do any transfer deals.  But then, what has logic got to do with anything in football?  Because, at least if you believe the media, Steve Mislintat is out there on his own setting up deals for the next manager.  And if you believe that, well, fair enough, the transfer rumours are there for you to read.

Top of the list in popularity is the “news” (I use the word lightly) that Jack Wilshere has been offered an improved contract based less on playing time and with more of a basic salary.  This is in the Mirror and Express.  Like so many stories that follow this raises the question, who is making this decision?  Mr Wenger?  The New Manager?  Steve all by himself?

Of course in the days when Mr Wenger was still managing in Japan while waiting to take up his job at Highbury he did indeed arrange transfers – Remi Garde and Vieira were the most notable, but although not at the club at the time he had already been appointed and we knew about it.  It’s not quite the same now.

Then we have the story that Reiss Nelson is about to go on loan to newly promoted Wolverhampton W next season.  Football London has this one and they are getting quite excited about it.  I guess much depends on whether Reiss is considered by the new manager to be ready for the Arsenal team or whether playing elsewhere in the Premier League might help him.

The big problem with this sort of move however is that many loan players hardly get to play at all and the owning club has no control over this.  And surely wouldn’t everything depend on what the new man thinks of Reiss?  Back to the same old question.

On more realistic grounds is the situation for Mavropanos who following his performance against Man U is getting talked up at the expense of Chambers (Pain in the Arsenal).   But the increasingly negative and “follow-the-Sky-agenda” Thierry Henry says he wants to see more before giving a judgement (Sports Review).

Where everyone is in agreement however is that with A Maitland Niles Arsene Wenger has discovered an absolutely outstanding player for central midfield defence.   He seemingly had a 92% passing accuracy, and unless the new manager has a totally different vision, one would expect AMN to be a regular next season, with the added benefit that he can cover in other positions, and he is emotionally so cool you can see the ice form on the pitch when he stands still.  What that means for Xhaka and Wilshere I don’t know, but it would be an utter tragedy if one of the “you don’t win anything with kids” morons was given the job of running Arsenal next season.

Away from Arsenal Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Alexis Sanchez is nowhere near the player he was at Arsenal following his January move to Manchester United (according to The Sports Review).  What is interesting with this one is that no one is asking WHY Alexis has gone downhill and Mkhitaryan gone up in most pundits’ estimation. It couldn’t be the manager could it?

And speaking of managers apparently (according to the Sun and the Mirror, who have taken to quoting each other these days) Arsenal are considering a “shock move” for Manchester United assistant manager Rui Faria, as the next manager at the Ems.

While elsewhere on the managerial front we now have the real reason Arsene is leaving Arsenal, thanks to Football Fan Cast.  Apparently it is the new Puma kit.  Mr W can’t stand it and won’t work for a club with such awful taste.

Speaking of the wild and the wacky Football Fan Cast also “reveal” that the “Majority of Arsenal fans want club to sign Wilfried Zaha this summer.”  Signing a Palace winger when we have Ozil and Mkhitaryan and Aubamayang and Iwobi and Welbeck all of whom can play there.  An interesting ploy.

But still, reality is never the name of the game as Football London reveal with the headline “Arsenal were beaten 2-0 on Sunday.”  Which is followed up with “Pochettino unsure about new deal at Spurs.”

Speaking of unreliable sources in an EXCLUSIVE the Daily Star tells us that “Arsene Wenger Rejects PSG Offer And Wants France Job” while the Daily Mail says, “Arsenal are closing in on a deal for German giants Borussia Dortmund central defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, with Bild crediting the influence of Arsenal key man in transfers, Sven Mislintat after he held negotiations with the £17.5m player’s agents.”

And one last one to finish off, because no rumour mongering is complete without it, “Arsenal in ‘advanced talks’ with Juventus over Hector Bellerin.”  That is the headline in “101 Great Goals.”

Now here is your question: How many of those stories are true?

  1. AMN a regular next season, oh dear. Do we not learn? Arsenal need to get quality experience for every position. No more inexperienced youth thank you very much. Iwobi has been dross for a couple of seasons now, we have been messing around with our CM duo when we should have recruited top class replacements for cazorla and coq. We spent years messing around giving young keepers a chance, bought Czech and instantly saw the improvement. Now he needs replacing are we going to give Virginia the gloves? No, we will get a replacement!
Those young gunners will go on loan and that’s where they should go, Arsenal will not get back into the top four or challenge if we turn to our youth players.

  2. Yep Alf, a bit like Liam Brady, Charlie George, Fabregas, Van Persie, Anelka, Cliff Bastin, Jack Wilshere, Ashley Cole, Ray Parlour. All tried as kids. All rubbish.

  3. All this explaining and speculation covering the future and I am still trying to form (what can only be an opinion) the real reason Arsene is finishing hmanagerial position at the end of this season and not next season when his present contract is concluded.

I haven’t read or listened to the muttering of the footballpundits mufferlers as I don’t believe in wasting my time.

    However I did catch this:

From Bob Wilson the first double Goal keeper (In summary) ‘I have met three great men in my life and Arsene is one of them.’

And I also heard this from a spuds supporter.

” I have been following Arsene Wenger since 1988 when Monaco came to us to play friendly against us. They whacked us 4-0. Their football was out of this world.”

I thought ‘1988’ What about 1986 when Glen Hoddle hopped ( Leap leapfrogged is a more appropriate word) out of spuds to Monaco to play for Arsene Wenger, he won his only league championship medal as a result. He also won a cup final medal.

I am sick of the Little England mantra that Arsene has won three league
championship and 7 F A Cups. He has won the French league and the French Cup.

For all you’ Little Englanders I give you the maths.

    3 + 1 = 4 not 3

    7 + 1 = 8 not 7

  4. What if we are waiting till a particular team is either knocked out or wins the WC in Russia , before that winning manager is our new man in ?

And AW then goes on to manager that particular country ?

Obliviously its not going to be Gareth Southgate. England fans can relax. That would be plain loco .If he goes , where would find another manager willing to take that job?

And I’m also hoping its not going to be either of Belgium’s famed dynamic duo !

I’m sorry, but what does being from England have anything to do with it? Are you allowed to be bigoted/xenophobic on this website just as long as you support Wenger? Replace the word “England” with somewhere in Africa and tell me that doesn’t sound racist to you. I would like to report this comment, how do I go about doing so?

  6. @ ALF

Brilliant! You don’t want us messing around with young players but then mention the Coq………….who was a young player.

In answer to your opening question. “Do we not learn?” Apparently not………..

  7. Jammy dont waste your time..The likes of Menace ,omg and hunter have been getting away with racist ,homophobic and agressive behaviour on here for years but because they are Wenger lovers nothing is said or done .Wheres nitram when one of the Akbs come out with a racist remark??

shalll tony respond on this ?

  9. Hard to disagree with this, Tom. Menace especially goes into attack mode every time anyone says anything remotely critical. The rules do generally appear to be different based on your opinion over the managerial situation…where some can’t get away with straying off topic without having their comments deleted, others can avoid Arsenal altogether and just go straight to the insults at will.

With any luck, the fresh start this summer will bring some civility back to most Arsenal forums.

  10. “Little Englander” is a political term from the 1800s related to the Liberal Party and Mr. Gladstone. Colario is not being xenophobic or racist…he is calling others xenophobic for willfully ignoring Wenger’s achievements; his example is apropos.

  11. Jammy,

If it wasn’t ovious already, Colario is filtering the thick by not using emoji. Relax, the only things he’s racist towards are stupidity and lack of sense of humor.
