Of course it was a different competition but still the stakes were just as high. For on this very day in 1979 Arsenal won the FA cup, as the video below shows
And we know that although there is no Cup at stake in the game against Tottenham today, there is a lot of pride and future income for the club in the balance, since a win will take us a long way toward getting into the Champions League.
The news before tonight’s match is that Tottenham are predicted to play the same XI as played in the draw with Liverpool recently, while Arsenal have reported that Bukayo Saka and Ben White will have fitness tests before the game.
Interestingly the BBC’s webpage on the match says that “it is very hard to pick a winner” highlighting the fact that Conte has managed to win just one of the eight games he has managed against Arsenal.
But they focus on what is probably the most worrying stat, which is that Tottenham have won or drawn their last seven home league games against Arsenal. They have beaten that twice by going nine games without defeat in 1960 and 1968.
In 1960 the league table ended in a fashion that was utterly different from the sort of thing we see today with Burnley as champions, Tottenham third, and clubs such as West Brom, Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton Wanderers, Present North End, Fulham, and Blackpool, all ending the season above Arsenal who finished 13th.

13 | Arsenal | 42 | 15 | 9 | 18 | 68 | 80 | 0.850 | 39 |
In 1968 the league looked much more like today with many of those clubs noted above now departed the 1st Division, and in 1967/8 with Fulham and Sheffield United leaving as well. Arsenal and Tottenham were much closer together.

But the statistic that brings the biggest worry is Tottenham’s home form in the League of late
