- How much is the Arsenal team worth, and an asterisk for the Mancs
- If we had to have a bad defeat – now was a good time to have it.

Below you will find over a dozen headlines from the Daily Mails website. Virtually all were taken from the site between noone and 1211 on 21 September 2026. (Any that aren’t, we published only a day or two before).
Thee are some 16 headlines and they virtually all appeared in the football index page on 21 September., although I must admit that reading these articles got so depressing in their negativity, we haven’t done our usual thing of going back and double checking everything here. Thus it is just possible that we’ve mixed something up; I think not, but this was so depressing we didn’t do our normal thing of having a second checker go through and check each link and the each article’s date.
But even if we got something wrong and some headlines are not from today, this is so depressing one wonders what on earth is going on. Is this what Daily Mail editors think: that most of it is screwed up and in a dreadful mess? Is this how it really is, only the othe newspapers just hide all the negatives from us? I mean Untold picks up on errors and misjudgements, but not at this level, day by day.
Either way – these reports not only show football in an utterly shocking light, they also show that many people who want to read about football, want to read about ineptitude, scandal, and scurrilous behaviour.
Of course we know that the Mail is a very successful newspaper. The average print circulation for the Daily Mail was ofer 619,000 copies a day, and that’s before we get to the online readership. Of course many of these people won’t read the football pages but some will, and many more will read it on line. And they might ask….
1: How come football has got into such a state that this sort of thing is going on in football day after day, and no one is doing anything about sorting it out?
2: Do football fans want to read about all this raging negativity or is this written for those who want to see football at least transformed if not banned?
3: Why doesn’t the Mail publish many positive stories about football?
Now that last question is interesting. There are one or two positive tales around that we found in our review, but not many, and we have to remember that the editors of the paper pick the tales they wish to run each day. And the tales the Mail runs are primarily that most football clubs are run by a bunch of turnips who wouldn’t have a clue about how to run a cabbage farm let alone a football club.
Of course that might be true, but if it is true, then why is the Mail missing the biggest story of all: why are so many football clubs run by idiots who couldn’t run a road-side stall selling cheap tat?
And there is another point here and that is that as we have often noted, most clubs lose money most of the time. So maybe this is because most clubs are run by dunces. Certainly many bloggers give the opinion that if only they were running Arsenal they’d know exactly who to buy and we’d win the league every season, not just once every 20 something years.
The implication of the blogs (and it seems, the Mail) is that with a bit of swift movement and the sort of knowledge these writers have, last season’s seven point win by Arsenal could be replicated year after year.
So what I’d really like to know is why all these clubs are making so many mistakes, when the Mail’s staff can obviously spot the problems straight off. Could it be that everyone is in the wrong job?
Here’s a few if snippets we found in the Mail, reading it of late; you can read the whole story in each case through the link….
