In the semi-final we will play….

Blacksheep and I were lucky enough to go to both the semi final and final at Wembley, so we are back there this year.

And we are playing…

Bradford or Reading

It will be our 28th semi final. and thus far have won 18 and lost 9.  28 is more than any other team.

  1. Marvelous!!!

    Bottle of Scotch ahoy!!!

Oh, and some Kleenex for BBC muppets!!!

  2. Oh Yes!
Abundance of joy after so many failures there.
I’m so happy that I took a day off from work tomorrow, time to party!

  3. Its 3.30 in the morning and I can’t sleep…yyyeeeeaaahhhhh… We are going to Wemberlay..

  4. nick

    2nd that for Ozil.

Like everyone, he worked his socks off. No matter the neg heads, that lad is class.

I would like to give a shout for Monreal. I thought he too was exceptional.

  5. Finally!!! That win was loong overdue. Just hoping it’s a sign of much geate things to come.

  6. Neville said, “Arsenal always bottles it”. All week, the psychological war had been on from ManU ex players. However, when and where it mattered, we replied and in style.

I must also say that by not giving the penalties for Di Maria and Januzags’ simulations, Man U didn’t get the help they were used to from the ref. For a change, I am inclined to name the ref. the Man of the March.

  7. Called quite a lot of it -Ox and Wellbeck in, Di maria stepping up his diving- but what I didn’t call right was the most important part, the ref.

I thought best we could hope for was him ‘not being abysmal’, but he was, by normal standards, really good, and by what we’re used to, utterly amazingly fantastic.

I think it showed better than a dodgy ref what a dodgy ref can do to us. Gilt-edged opportunities were there to make things much tougher, especially a second for Bellerin which would be so easy to give. and then to stand up to the diving! my word.
Do we have a ‘normal’ top ref on the scene? What does that mean for the future?

Team was good today. If we’d been a bit nearer our best in final third it could have been even better. If Utd didn’t have a freakishly good keeper, it could have been over earlier.

    Brilliant!

  8. Said on the other thread the outcome of this match just shows what Arsenal’s been robbed off from unfair refereeing despite Arsenal not being on the top gear for major part of the match.

  9. Yes, the announcers used the word ignomy when describing he bookings the ManU Diving Club got. AMAZING!

  10. Commented on the wrong damn article! Oh well.

Coquelin was indeed superb. His work is invaluable and he is doing things we haven’t had a midfielder who does reliably for…a while.

  11. Stupid tactics from Van Gaal. where are all the pundits who say Arsene do no tactics? Come on show us your damn stupidty…

Although Sanchez was not as usual (today he was human, somebody test his drinks, Kryptonite?), but Valencia was hell scared to come an inch up front, and when he did, two great saves from De Gea (Great GK to be honest).

Man of the match Monreal for me, and the goal he scored was not what decided that.

The only tactics Wenger got wrong today, is he should have played 11 Welbeck clones, or put Welbeck masks on all arsenal players. :):):):P

  12. 5hot out to Welbeck for delivering the sucker punch. Monreal and BFG also what mentioning. Gr8 performance guys. You shot Scholes and d children with their No win in 15 games up and made us proud.

What a beautiful 9t. I can hardly sleep now from joy. Just wants to watch the highlights over and over again.

  13. And Chambers was up for it too. I love the player when he tries his all.

Did I mention how overjoyed was I with Welbeck scoring? 🙂

I think Van Gaal should be sacked now 😀 😛

  14. From the BBC

    > 22:20

    > A stat from opta here which takes us back to a point we made earlier in the evening:

    > 8 – Only Adebayo Akinfenwa (9 v Liverpool) has conceded more fouls in a 2014-15 FA Cup match than Marouane Fellaini v Arsenal.

  15. From the BBC

    > 22:26

    > A reminder that you voted Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin as man of the match tonight, the Frenchman won 43.2% of the vote.

  16. The perfect team game. As good a performance as I’ve seen from us for so long. Welbeck was terrific, he made at least ten challenges to turn the ball over and then scored the winner.
Good from Oliver too. A bit lenient on United early on, but then gave them exactly what they deserved. Effing cheats!!

  17. And most importantly, tribute to the 12th man today, our great awesome Arsenal fans away. They deserve the win and I believe , for their singing (which I was hearing on the TV) Arsenal should not get them back through buses, but through the First class at Emirates Airlines.

By the way, our fans are really underrated.
I usually hear the away fans out sing the home fans on the TV, today in Old trafford, in Broussia…
And now the Emirates is becoming a fortress. The atmosphere ( again on the TV) looks great. I think first it was the change from Highbury to the Emirates, thus people were rearranged and groups broken. But now the chants are so obvious on the TV.

So proud to be a Goooner.
What a football! what a team! what a players! what a manager! and finally what a great fans! YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH WEMBLEY!!!

  18. Perhaps the best ref performance in a long time. I can forgive genuine errors when the ref shows the courage to penalise their divers.

However, I wonder why Fellaini had not had at least 2 yellows before half-time and why Rooney gets away with constantly being in the ref’s face over every decision. Even the BBC suggested that Rojo was lucky not to get a red for his awful foul through the back of Cazorla.

It is clear that Man U cannot cope when refs are not totally biased in their favour and that they would be in a much worse position this season without De Gea’s repeated heroics.

  19. john

I think that as captain Rooney is a allowed to question decisions, as long as he’s respectful to the ref.
True though, Fellaini should have been booked much earlier, especially as Bellarin was given a yellow for his first foul. But Oliver had a decent game overall.
    Hope he gets the final.

  20. john

Absolutely. Without the Refs United would be in trouble again this season.

They’ve had the referees on there side for so long now it does seem to come as a shock when they don’t get every 50/50 call.

  21. Is it possible that refereeing performance could be replicated in the scudamore sky league?

  22. It goes to show what is the real quality of the English refs. In a funny way, Riley was right – they can get 99% of the decisions correct – when they are not biased:D Today, the bias order must have been distorted through a bad cellphone.

  23. I stumbled across a tactical analysis of the game and concluded the writer has to be a ManU supporter until I saw this at the base of the page

“Abhay is one of the editors of this website. He prefers to write only tactical analytical pieces on matches, players and coaches.
Abhay is a huge Arsenal fan, but Mourinho and AVB are his 2 preferred managers. He hates beautiful football and ultra-attacking football( arsenal-esq with both fullbacks attacking simultaneously), and is a huge fan of the defensive/reactive football that mourinho and simeone play”

Now that is what is meant as AAA-WOB

  24. Great win, thanks to all our boys. The rest of the season is now really interesting. Arsenal have FA cup, UCL and 2nd in EPL to look forward to. ManU can only hang on for fourth, which will be difficult as they play Spurs, Liverpool, ManC and Chelski in their next 5 matches.
Looks like Arsenal are hitting their heights at the right time.

  25. I think that we may meet another Birmingham club in the Final , you know , the one managed by a Gooner !

  26. It appears that Sylvain Wiltord, scorer of the league winning goal at Old Trafford, had been killed in a helicopter accident with several other french athletes. They were filming a television show ‘Dropped’. when the two helicopters crashed. from the Guardian website

  27. JamesO

Thank God you are wrong. He is part of the cast but wasn’t on the helicopter. Tragedy nevertheless.

  28. sorry everyone. Too early and reading in bed. Just re read. Thank goodness. Heart goes out to the other families.

  29. Thank god for Wiltord but sad news about the helicopter crash. Tragedy for the families and friends of the people killed

  30. Danny Welbeck transfer price: £16m.

    Watching him sink United: Priceless

  31. FROM LAGOS NIGERIA:

CONGRATZ TO ALL THE GUNNERS WOR LWIDE. SO HAPPY SEEING THE MOST UNDERRATED MANAGER IN THE WORLD, JOYOUS IN CELEBRATION. I JUST TOOK THE ALIAS ‘BLAZING CANNON’ TO MOCK ALL MY MAN U FRIENDS WHO ARE FOND OF DERIDING WENGER AND ARSENAL.

SO MANY ARSENAL FANS HAVE DECAMPED TO OTHER ‘TRAWFIE HUNTING GROUNDS’ IN NIGERIA,WHO CARES?
THEY ARE NOT WORTHY OF ARSENL.THE CLUB IS ONLY FOR THE BRAVES AND THOSE THAT KNOW HOW TO LOOK BEYOND THEIR NOSE.

COULD BARELY SLEEP THROUGH THE NIGHT.ONWARD TO WEMBLEY.

  32. After a week of being called losers, by Man Utd fan. After being mocked by them, All the photoshoping of Mr Wenger. To all that, I laughed it off and on the game day I replied..”I’ll let my team do the talking.”

Thank you Gunners. For making my day. To Wembley.

  33. I like to invite Arsene Wenger critics to comment on a day like this…

Well, if you guys can’t fault his tactics (and lack of team motivation)today, may be you should eat the humble pie and commend him (not that he is starved of commendation)…but if not, you guys should keep your mouth shut (at least on this platform UA) for ever!

I can imagine how foolish some people are feeling now…I don’t envy them though.

Thank you Arsene, thank you Arsenal and Thank us AKBs 🙂

  34. Especially enjoyable after all the media build-up about 1999, Giggs, Keane, Scholes and Nevilles all over the place, building up MU. All the rubbish about Arsenal lacking leaders like Adams, Vieira et al.- how Arsenal always fail to turn up in “big” games, how Ozil, Giroud, Cazorla, Alexis only turn it on against lower teams, — how we don’t like it on a winter night in the north – west.

BBC, SKY, Guardian, Mail, Mirror, ESPN and all; “your boys took a hell of a beating”.

PS Expect to see Michael Oliver in Conference next week!

  35. Damilare
When the critics couldn’t find anything negative to say about the team last night they started slating those who have questioned PL refs in the past! Despite the tonnes of evidence amassed by UA to show the playing field was far from being level, we’re all supposed to be deluded on the back of one ‘ok’ performance from a pgmob representative.

  36. Damilare

Also looking foolish are the UA commenters who claimed that the BBC & FA had this competition rigged for a Man U v Liverpool final, when we all knew that our class would win through in the end.

  37. TailGunner

It does seem that the assumption that the Referees would be falling over themselves to make it a Liverpool/Manchester United Final is wrong, and I concede that.

But given all available historic evidence regarding the favouritism so often shown towards those 2 teams, United in particular, it was a fully justified and understandable fear.

So I for one certainly don’t feel foolish, merely grateful that it seems I (amongst others) was wrong, at least until now.

  38. I must admit I wet myself when he pulled the red card out as Fellani should have had 11 yellow cards!

  39. I wouldn’t admit to being foolish, the fact it didn’t happen doesn’t suggest the desire to see it turn out that way wasn’t there. It’s foolish to think those who predicted a poor reffing performance are foolish given what has gone on in the past. We know refs have been demoted to conference matches when they have not produced results that would have been deemed to be ideal at OT, and this isn’t true just for Arsenal but all teams across the league. As many have pointed out already, it wasn’t the perfect performance from the ref, so let’s not forget the team played it’s part in ensuring this wasn’t the case. The manager too by taking Bellerin out before the utd cheats could target him. That fellaini could have had 11 yellows but only got one, Rojo could have had a red but didn’t get a yellow, and Welbeck should have had a penalty, cannot all be ignored.

As for Liverpool I can only assume they were absolutely shite on the day. The pgmob rep on the day would have deemed them good enough to go past Blackburn without his assistance. It’s not over yet anyway, and should they get a few dodgy decisions in the replay what will you say then? It’d be best to start using terms such as foolish when the final has been played, and there’s no evidence of helping anyone. Anyone who watched our final last year and failed to see that the ref wanted Hull to win (4 Arsenal penalty shouts turned down) is blind. Based on such obvious bias isn’t it logical people will rationalise that the refs look like they want certain sides to win over other sides?

  40. AL

    Exactly.

The assertion that one decent (Personally I think excellent, but that’s just my opinion) refereeing performance somehow negates the multitude of past, disgracefully biased Refereeing performances, is in itself, foolish in the extreme.

One Swallow doesn’t make a Summer, as they say.

  41. I’m surprised i have not yet heard the mantra from the pundits, “well they WERE playing against 10 men”, clearly forgetting manu still had 11 with the ref.

Anyway, let’s concentrate on our forward run now. Next step, WestHam, should be another 3 points.

  42. The PGMoron had a bad game because Arsenal played a smart Wenger game. He appeared to have performed well because he knew that the world, his dog, cat and mother in law was watching. Those who expected a crooked result were not wrong just outwitted by Wenger. Proof that AKB. He won despite the PGMoron who sloped the pitch but was unable to stop a greater power from giving Danny ‘Boy’ Welbeck the glorious goal.

I also half expected the worst but was pleased with the Wenga boyz.

  43. Al/TailGunner, the fact that we feared the worst from the refs before the match should not be a licence for ‘fans’ to rubbish our players and Manager. The point is we should support our team even if we were the weaker team on paper or the underdog.

Michael Oliver’s performance was a surprise to everybody because he TRIED to apply some of the rules of the game unlike what used to be the norm at Old Toilet. I’m waiting to see the UA ref review of the match. His bias for Manure will still be higher than that of Arsenal. That is where the boys and AW deserve praises for their mentality and composure.

M Oliver will his employer ‘punish’ him for trying to be a fair ref? We shall soon find out. He was brave and bold to make some of the right calls on Monday night. Other refs should emulate him.

Please can anyone share post match interviews or comment from Owen, Neville, Giggs, Scholes and co? It will be interesting to read.

  44. Damilare

“Please can anyone share post match interviews or comment from Owen, Neville, Giggs, Scholes and co? It will be interesting to read.”

If they do open there shitholes you can bet your bottom Dollar it will all be about how bad united where and very little about us.

  45. jambug

Can confirm that Neville ( the older ) did exactly that in his post match discussion with Mark Chapman and Martin Keown.
It doesn’t matter that much to me though, I know the truth of it and so did the watching millions.

  46. para

Just seen your comment about “playing with 10 men”.
It wouldn’t have applied in this instance as the ref was showing strength and honesty and making the correct ( favourable to us ) decisions at this point. I wouldn’t go so far as to say that we had 12 men at this point, but Oliver could be trusted to control the rest game in an honest way. A lesser ref might have panicked and awarded a penalty for the next dive, but again awarded a yellow card.
