The Absolute Arsenal Transfer Index: 86 players we are signing, 21 players we are losing.

Hi and welcome to the totally reformed Arsenal Transfer Index.  Two big changes you will see now I’ve taken over:

First I’ve made a special effort this week to try and make the numbers in part one get nicely and neatly from 1 to 86 without gaps or repetition.

Second I’ve correct the error on Carlos Bacca.  Many thanks for pointing it out.

And third (damn – we can change that “two changes” comment can’t we Tony?) [sure thing – Tony] we are 26 days into the window and it is definitely slowing down.  There’s only two new names this week.

Rather interestingly a few bloggettas are still running the Higuain to Arsenal story, but that’s robots for you.  The Independent has finally stopped trying to tell us that Heathrow Airport is in Bournemouth and is a transfer story.

The new coach we gained a couple of weeks ago (Mr Adams) has gone to China (where apparently planes get lost and it is raining a lot).

Here’s the summary of activity so far according to The Transfer Centre

Coming in (4)

At the arrivals gate Initial Fee
Granit Xhaka £26,700,000
Kelechi Nwakali £3,000,000
Rob Holding £2,000,000
Takuma Asano £800,000
Total Spent £32,500,000

Going away (5)

Departure Initial Fee
Isaac Hayden £2,500,000
Wellington Silva Free
Tomás Rosický Released
Mikel Arteta Released
Mathieu Flamini Released
Total Received £2,500,000

PS: I have seen reports that Hayden went on loan, but it does seem a sale, so at present the aways are winning 4-5.

Now the glorious Index…

  1. S P U R S

    Stupid pundits uttering ridiculous

    statements

    Alternative:

    Stupid press uttering ridiculous statements.

    More suggestions please.

  2. Once again we’re sniggering at these ridiculous rumours. The sad thing is we haven’t signed anyone to the positions we need strengthening bar Xhaka who is a great signing.

We have two weeks to go to the Liverpool game in which we’ll have half a team out. New faces may be helpful for that game

Our squad wasn’t good enough to win the title last season and it certainly isn’t good enough to win this season as it stands.

We desperately need a high quality forward or two. We also need a quality CB and if the rumour of Mert being out for five months are true the CB position is a must to fill. Kos is 31, will be back late and last season he started to pick up niggling injuries. The thought of being left with Gabriel, Chambers and Holding terrifies me.

Once again the squad is nearly there but without a couple more top players we will once again fall short

With the league awash with money and top level managers the league will be as tough as it’s ever been. Without reinforcements in certain positions we are once again one or two injuries away from finding ourselves struggling

  3. I think you’ll find that 20 has already gone back to BvB.
The strong rumour is 26 is going to Juve.
35, 38, 55 and 81 are also ‘done deals’ (but not with us).

  4. Oh, and Zelalem is listed under ‘academy players on loan’ on Arsenal.com (and has been for nearly a year).

  5. We almost sound like a chinese take away menu…. I’ll have the number 87 whoever that may be on the list 😉

  6. I expect if we sign no one before the Liverpool game and then lose they’ll be shouts of “spend some fucking money”. Then we’ll sign Aubameyang and everyone will be happy. Or Male, Drake, Bastin, Dunne, Hapgood, Crayston and Bowden and we’ll be known as the Invisibles.

  7. Canary

Rightly so. The manager and board will deserve any flak they get if we reach the Liverpool game without adding to the squad. It would be disgraceful

  8. Saw lots of A statement from Lyon stories by our beloved tabloids today about Lafayette. Funny, I couldn’t find it linked to Lyon themselves.

  9. You haven’t touched on our “injury crisis” yet.
Currently our injured & unfit players include: Sanchez, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Cazorla & Gabriel and is expanding daily.
    Time to panic.

  10. Tony since you have some connection with the club, just for fun, can you tweet say ‘according to a reliable source at AFC, Arsenal is on the verge of signing Santa Claus and Ruldoph’. I think all the media will publish it.
