What happened about Yaya Toure, and what question should we be asking?

Tech note: Sorry about this article.  It was published and then vanished as we are still upgrading the whole of Untold Arsenal to https:// and other unfathomable places.  Here is a quick rundown…

The Yaya Toure story came and went in a flash and our tale in the midst of it

“What technical ploy could Arsenal use to buy Yaya Toure this week? Everything you need to know”

was published and vanished into air that was extremely thin due to the technical whatnots of https:// we mentioned above.

But the essence of the piece was this:

Yaya Toure was out of contract and thus had no club.  But the inward transfer window in England had closed.  So if in the world of total bonkersness he was coming to Arsenal what funny rule changing thingee could Arsenal be using to getting him in, while staying inside the rules?

The simple fact is that Toure being out of contract makes no odds – the PL rule is that after the early closure of the window no more incoming players could be registered and used by the club.  But that would not have stopped Toure coming to Arsenal, signing a contract and then sitting about doing nothing – except maybe some training and some PR work – until January 1 when the jolly old window flies open again.

But few if any said that.  They just took their readers for being mugs and kept on pumping out the same old gibberish.  You could almost hear them saying, “They’re only football fans.  They don’t know anything.”

So still the tales emerged

So was it fun?  Were they laughing at us however.  Certainly none of the articles I saw through the morning mentioned this little detail about an English transfer being impossible if it included him actually playing – just as none of the sites that said he was coming to Arsenal have actually managed to issue an apology.

In the end the story changed to
