A bumper summer for Arsenal: 39 players arriving, 18 going.

By Sir Hardly Anyone

If this were a traditional war, this would be the moment when a significant amount of hunkering down into bunkers would be taking place.

And I say that because although no one is shooting at anyone else (at least not as far as I know) there is not the slightest sign in the media that anyone is taking a blind bit of notice at the reality.  There is no backing off.

Let’s just see the grizzly affair in action.

  • The headline: Arsenal to announce first summer signing as Edu makes £10m transfer decision
  • The decision: The £10m transfer isn’t happening
  • The actual transfer: Mat Ryan is set to complete a free transfer from Brighton and Hove Albion.
  • The knocking:  “Bernd Leno’s future uncertain.”
  • The unsettling: ” the Gunners will be in the market to sign players in at least five positions this summer
  • The reality: there’s no mention of who these five players are, and indeed the story about Mat Ryan is nicked from the Sun.

Of course most Arsenal fans just read Arsenal stories, but should they ever stray into Liverpool territory they might be interested in because of its touch of negativity – a sort of Arsenal style reporting but with the regret toned down to just 20%.

Jurgen Klopp will regret allowing Arsenal to sign £72million ace unchallenged

The £72m is of course the clue – it has to be Pepe and this is what AnfieldCentral have to say.  It is interesting because

“A report from Goal in August 2019 claimed that Klopp was interested in Pepe but ultimately decided not to pursue him because he wouldn’t be a guaranteed starter at Anfield due to Mohamed Salah’s occupation of the right-wing role.

“At £72million, that was a wise move but I think if the Ivorian has another impressive year, Klopp might come to regret not find a way to sign Pepe in a more financially sensible way.

“For example, the Reds could have agreed a deal with Lille to keep the forward at the Ligue 1 club for another year before signing him the summer afterwards for a reduced fee.  Alas, Arsenal signed him and he’s beginning to show why the North London side decided to spend so much to take him to the Emirates Stadium.”

The 39 players tipped to be arriving this summer!
