81 players arriving, 27 leaving: the media’s wild take on Arsenal’s transfers this summer

By Sir Hardly Anyone

The case of Adam Hlozek shows us exactly how the media work these days.   Before the last couple of days, there has been no mention anywhere of the forward wanting to come to Arsenal, or of Arsenal being interested in him.  And then suddenly the Mirror, having never talked of him before, says “Arsenal miss out on Mikel Arteta striker target as familiar problem emerges”.    Given the media’s undying desire for transfer news one might think they could have mentioned the player before – but no, they pick up on the fact that he is possibly being transferred and then say Arsenal have missed out even though neither they nor anyone else ever once mentioned that Arsenal were after him.  It was ever thus.

Meanwhile, the Mirror also states, “Arsenal could bring in as many as seven players this summer, with strikers a particular priority.” although unfortunately, they forget to tell us who, which is a shame, and instead recite the names of players who are leaving.

Here is the latest on the list of the 81 players Arsenal are tipped to buy this summer and the 27 who are leaving.

4 Replies to “81 players arriving, 27 leaving: the media’s wild take on Arsenal’s transfers this summer”

  1. After his successful 2021/22 trial season to Tottenham Hotspurs Paul Tierney is being permanently signed by them for next season. Conte and Levy are reportedly very satisfied with his performances for Spurs last season, especially the home game against Arsenal where he ruled several key decisions in Spurs favour.
These key decisions were instrumental in helping Spurs to the fourth place (not a trophy) position and robbing their North London rivals Arsenal in the process.
Of his more notable favours to Spurs the refusal to red card Kane for his terrible two footed tackle on Andy Robinson, no red card for Son for his blatant elbow to Holdings face and the penalty awarded to Spurs for the phantom push by Cedric in the back of Son (who should have previously been sent of for said elbow on Holding) immediately spring to mind.
Maybe Arteta should concentrate on signing a couple of referees for Arsenal, it certainly worked well for Tottenham.

  2. Painful! We all know papers make stuff up find something else to talk about. Anything else!

    Please…

  3. Now this is where I really don’t understand you Andrew Banks. You have often been critical of Untold Arsenal, as I recall, with a recent comment of yours consisting of nothing but the two words, “Stupid article”. And on another occasion, “I suspect that even if we have another Invincibles season and are portrayed as footballing gods you would still be reporting a conspiracy by the press.” While your comment to another correspondent was “You should be on stage at the Edinburgh comedy festival!”
In another comment you said, “Who cares? So what? Why are you so obsessed?” Indeed the only time I can remember you agreeing with a piece on Untold was with the article “Supporters are once more being treated with contempt”.
So given that you disagree with something like 90% of what is said on Untold, and given that you rarely given evidence to back up your views, my question to you is, “why do you spend your time reading Untold Arsenal?”

  4. Re Andrew Banks
Tony, I suspect that he gets some sort of perverse pleasure at the thought of winding you up. I can imagine him chuckling to himself as he sees that he has successfully caught you again with his poisoned bait.
Ignore him or ban him but do not feed the troll.
