93 players rumoured to be going to Arsenal. Are the journos getting lazy?

By Sir Hardly Anyone.

Yes 93 players incoming but with the transfer window now having been open for over two weeks the whole rumour system seems to have collapsed with hardly any new names being added to the list of players Arsenal are signing.

In fact there are five times as many stories of transfers to Arsenal being hijacked by other clubs as the media desperately searches for negative things to say about the club.

In some cases this search is reaching ludicrous proportions with such stories as “Manchester City are willing to sell some of their top players because they have such confidence in the players coming through their academy.  But then that is in the Mancheseter Evening News.

There are even some occasionally positive pieces such as “Mikel Arteta silencing Arsenal critics by fulfilling ‘pulling power’ promise” – Express

and

‘Chelsea and Manchester United’ should be worried about Arsenal’s recent transfer activity, with seemingly the most active side in the window at present. – Just Arsenal

Although ‘Eddie Nketiah “wouldn’t start for Fulham”‘ (in the Standard) does show us that the old ways die hard.  And although there is only one new name on the transfer incoming list, nine of the players have had details of their alleged move updated.  Here’s the list…

10 Replies to “93 players rumoured to be going to Arsenal. Are the journos getting lazy?”

  1. Andrew Banks this is the 24th time you have written to Untold Arsenal to tell us that there is something wrong with one of our articles.
This is, by any standard, rather strange behaviour. I mean, I know that there are various TV programmes that I find boring, so I don’t watch them. There are magazines which contain articles that I find irrelevant or of no interest, so I don’t read them.
But you go on and on and on reading Untold, and then over and over and over again you write in to say how stupid or just plain wrong you find the piece. Surely a simple short cut is to stop reading.
(Unless of course you are not reading but simply noting that an article is published, and then firing off a comment – but that would be even weirder).
You are, it seems, diagnosing my behaviour as “nuts”. Unlike you I don’t hold the view that one can diagnose a person’s mental state from one action observed at a distance, but reading articles that you know you will dislike, and then writing in to cast aspertions on the mental health of the writer is, to say the least, slightly odd.

  2. I believe Arsenal, its management and owners are walking the talk. This season is going to be very special with a compression of games over several periods that will require a squad that stays healthy and thus numerous players – it looks more like basketball then football…..

One element I think they have visibly assimilated is the fact that 5 substitutions per game will be allowed, which offers quite a lot more potential in squad rotation and player minutes. Only a larger squad an manage that, and this will also give lots of opportunities to integrate academy players which takes time : remember Eddie’s first brace was done coming in as a substitute at the end of a game with Mr Wenger still at the helm…. yep that long ago !

  3. It is very sad that the ‘Eddie Nketiah “wouldn’t start for Fulham”‘ comment came from the ex Arsenal player, (some call him a legend) Paul Merson. You would expect an ex player to be supportive rather than critical but Merson regularly comes out with this type of insulting comment, maybe he is trying to attract attention to himself by saying something controversial.

  4. My brother sometimes sends me your articles telling what good read they are, I do so to understand what he thinks is so in depth, got to be honest and say I find few thought provoking. We all know how stupid the press can be, this article hardly tells anything new.

If you want to be cutting, write something different and incisive – too often you do what I use to when writing a blog, write for writes sake.

  5. Anthony I think you forget that one person’s different and incisive is not another’s. And perhaps you forget also that one can tell within the first paragraph what a piece is going to be about, so if you do stumble into an article that is not your cup of tea, you’ve only lost five seconds.

  6. Anthony

If you read the articles at all you might notice this one is posted by a writer named Sir Hardly Anyone! A tip to the tongue-in-cheek nature of the poster rather than the tongue-in-a*** nature of the commenter.

  7. It looks as though Gabriel Jesus is a certainty now according to Fabrizio Romano, one of the few journalists who can be trusted. A fee of £45 million has been agreed with City and a 5 year deal agreed with Jesus himself.

  8. The article is certainly comic but does demostrate who much money is to made by non-news. Has anyone reserched the finances of the non news sites and how does the Arsenal 93 compare with other clubs? I scan the sites (and those add to their hits) looking for potential real news and there can be some. But so much is ‘a close source has revealed” which can be agents trying it on or I suspect at time a simple fabrication. And then there are the comments from explayers and celebs! Who cares what Piers thinks! Of course the totally bonkers finances around football have created this, excessive wages and eye watering ransfer fees take the game away from the simple joy of 25 men or women on a pitch with 20 of them trying to kick the ball between two posts. I dream of the day that Authorities bring finances under control and the day that a footballer sues a site a fake story.
