15 | PENALTY | ARS | NC | It shouldn’t have been a penalty but if the ref wanted to penalise something it has to be a free kick for Arsenal for a dive | 5
15 | FOUL | ARS | NC | On the slow motion it is clear to see that Ramirez plays the ball backwards and goes to follow the path of the ball. Szczesny has spraid himself and then Ramirez changes his footing and puts his leg forward looking to make contact with the keeper and throws himself to the ground. One of the better attempts of a dive I have seen in a long while. But Ramires didn’t go down because of contact with the keeper but he brought himself down. No foul from the keeper | 3

The 2 crucial errors leading to Chelsea’s goals concerned incidents deserving a yellow card. Therefore Ramires should have been sent off.
correct me if I am wrong, but are these some of the most shockingly biased numbers in these reviews, especially with the incorrect against? Fergie had a problem with this guy officiating in chelsea matches, we can see why.
Some game deciding moments in this game and the ref not having the best score in total. In fact a very poor score based on this years way of counting.
Our reviewers found that the first incident involving Diaby and Oscar was a foul from Diaby. He was holding Oscar outside the penalty area and then they moved in the penalty area with Diaby still having his arms around him. So should have been given a foul and a penalty. Diaby played the ball at the end of the events but that was only because he had made a foul before.
The first Chelsea goal was completely wrong. Ref should have given the foul from Ramires and a yellow card for a dangerous foul. Putting your feet on the foot of an opponent like that can cause broken bones in the foot and long injuries and even career ending injuries. So that goal wouldn’t have happened because now Chelsea put the ball in the net a few seconds after that not given foul.
the penalty was not a foul from Szczesny. He spreaded himself in the anticipation of a shot. Ramires then put the ball backwards, and he then made contact with the keeper. Not the other way round. If you have the images look at how he moves his foot towards the keeper in an unnatural movement. No penalty so in this case Ramires tried to cheat and should have been given a second yellow card.
What strikes me when reviewing the review is that from the start of the second half the ref was suddenly rather fair in his foul calling. But that changed suddenly when Arsenal scored. He then started to make wrong decisions again and they all went against Arsenal.
In fact the only real mistake going against Chelsea was the not given penalty in the first seconds of the game.
I also noticed but our reviewer left this out an incident where the ref let Chelsea win an enormous amount of time at a throw, took the ball some 10 meters upfield, handing the ball to another player who on his turn took another 5-10 meters. The ref blowing his whistle while first Chelsea player was steeling his yards and winning time to indicate they should hurry up but then did nothing.
I think our ref reviewer was kind on Atkinson for not counting this for not giving a yellow card for that time wasting.
Poor final score and and a mind blowing bias against Arsenal. Or in this case a mind blowing bias in favour of Chelsea. If you understand what I am saying.
Mandy,
yes and I think I have answered a few questions and added a few remarks on my own.
John,
The fact that Ramires even didn’t get booked in the whole game is some of the great mysteries that I still will be wondering about on my death bed 😉 Ok that is a bit over dramatic I think. I rather be wondering about Riley 49. I hope one day he wants to free his soul from his sins and speak out and apologises for it in public. Otherwise he can burn in hell…
Great work – thanks for showing this.
It is quite telling that the ref got so much right so much of the time.
He got it wrong only at critical times.
interesting walter. i know a few refs seem to have a downer on us, but looking at this guys previous, including some games against us, I believe atkinson to be the most pro a single club referee at least since mike riley. not sure if the stats back me up or not, but his sequence of chelsea wins is scarcely believable. why do we always seem to get these refs for these games?
Ramires got the MOTM award from the Sky commentators. Kind of says it all really. Another game where the referee ensured that one team got the win. Of course there is no match fixing of any sort in English football at least according to Graham Taylor so the peculiar refereeing must be purely random (said sarcastically).
Walter, how much more statistical evidence do we need to collect on the bias against Arsenal before we can take some form of action? Should we try and create an unusual betting pattern next time we get one of the more outrageous refs. I’m sure if enough of us place wagers on your four “certainties” next time we get Dean it might just show up as suspicious. Mind you he is tricky enough to then give an even handed performance just to spite us.
Having read the ref reviews over the last few years do we think the players know the type of decisions they are going to get and not get . Kos fouls in the area red card any other ground a yellow plus what went on at Chelsea , are the players becoming despondent you never hear a comment regarding refs from Arsenal players or management .
Steve,
the last time Arsenal and Wenger openly spoke about a ref it was followed by one of the most biased performances ever (Dowd at Newcastle) and I think that the club has told everyone to shut up about it.
They have learned their lesson.
But so giving the PGMOL the chance to screw us over and over again….
Thanks Walter watched the second half of the Newcastle game on the computer was it Dowd who sent Petit off for touching him , he has history . How did we ever go through a season unbeaten ? are they now getting there own back
These are horrible figures, and they dont even include the things Walter picked up. This kind of incompetence would be rewarded by a sacking in any other field except the FA or PGMOL, shocking.
Thanks to the review team for their hard work. Appalling refereeing, but as I watched the match – rather than read the biased match report on Sky or BBC – I expected this. But it really makes my day, reading the referee reviews and having a suspicion that I cannot prove to others confirmed. I salute your continued efforts on behalf of us all.
I think it’s up to Arsenal fans to start an organized campaign to put pressure on the suspect refs at the grove for a start. This will only be aimed at the refs that all Arsenal fans know are having a premeditated detrimental influence on the results of Arsenal games. The campaign should make it as uncomfortable as possible for these suspect refs letting them know that we know they are part of the corruption that is all over Europe that includes Britain in football.
A banner with PGMOL=MAFIA wouldn’t be far from the truth. But I wonder if Arsenal will allow it in the stadium?
Or 11 people each holding up one letter 😉 But pleas sit in the right order 🙂
Ref review confirms what we all thought at the time of the match, so thanks to the ref reviewer for the proof. A ref horror show.
Yes, how could any fair minded person give Ramires the Man of the Match?
Walter, your point about Dowd and the Newcastle match does explain why Arsene has stopped complaining. But he does sometimes make very subtle oblique references. He kind of invites the journalists to think a little bit for themselves. (Hard for them I know.)
We start hissing and calling them cheats though the whole match for a start don’t give them any time to feel at ease. Make the grove a very nasty place for these low life’s to carry out there jobs to ref a match.bring it to the wider world how Arsenals win % under dean is so out kilter with are normal win ratio.
goonerjoe, think that is starting to happen a bit at home, all the whistles over the time wasting etc. although did it against stoke at the weekend, foy did nothing but no surprise.
but, if there is a supreme being, and at the end of my days, this being deemed me not quite good enough for paradise, but instead imposed a time in a pgmol controlled dimension of purgatory, given the choice of a hundred years watching dean ref us against the spuds, webb ref us against utd, dowd ref us against anyone north of st albans, or atkinson ref us against chelsea, it would be a close call but the latter would cause me most grief. Today, even Le Grove hinted there is an English ref as opposed to an english team who may be a bit worried over match fixing, they claim a well known journalist as a source, could be complete bollox of course. atkinsons chelsea thing is nothing less than shocking.
The worrying thing is that I am starting to feel what’s the point you know once we get dean there’s over a 90%chance we will not win. Just a thought why don’t we start making some money start betting against Arsenal start a trend that will show up on the bookies security systems.
wait and see us get dean against the spuds…..again…..
Sorry off topic.
FYI http://footballisfixed.blogspot.co.uk is back.
Interesting article “Hodgson the hedge”.
I used to wonder why ‘foreign’ refs never used to pick up and comment on appallingly biased performances like this one(there may be the odd one around somewhere). Now I know. Many of them are probably doing the same foul deeds and don’t want to bring attention to it! What a state the Prem and the FA have allowed us to get into.
And today some security ‘expert’ said we must remember it isn’t a game any longer- it’s a business now and we need preemptive surveillance! Heaven preserve us! Abolishing PGMOL and the refs we can’t trust would be a good preemptive strike for a start.

Just read hodgson the hedge I don’t think it’s of topic just more proof in what is starting to look like a totally corrupt sport and football fans are being take ride.

Thanks for heads up.
Mike Dean = Spurs and anything against Arsenal
Martin Atkinson = Chelsea and anything against Arsenal
Howard Webb = ManU and anything against Arsenal
That’s 3 off the top of my head and possibly many more hidden in that great ref database.
Oh and btw..there’s no way City will win the league this time. Last year’s abberation has got to be corrected.
Arvind,
I think I could write a book about Dean. Taken all the articles on Untold on him I think I have already written it 🙂
But he is not a real “Spurs” ref. He was when Arry was there. You know the period in time that “Arry” was painted as the messiah of English football and would become the new England manager.
Dean is more a Cameleon. Taking each colour that is required to develop his own career. If Arry/Spurs is the flavour of the day he turns white. If Man $ity becomes a force he turns blue.
There even was a time that he was wearing red and we won games under him. But somewhere along the line he turned away from us and started his crusade against us.
I think it was somewhere in 2006 he changed. The moment Dein left the FA. Dein who was considered very powerful in the FA at the time.
Things then turned and Arsenal was not represented at the highest level in the FA since then (Gazidis is now but maybe not yet considered important enough by Dean).
But from those days Dean turned in to one of the worst refs in the Arsenal history. The most anti-Arsenal ref I have ever seen. Birmingham 2007-2008, MU on several occasions, the spuds (Arry you know), the list goes on and on.
But I would dare to bet a few pounds on this: if Arsenal would have a major influence in the FA… from that day, Dean will give us all we want. And more.
A very smart and over ambitious person. Those are the most dangerous ones.
In fact have just written another article about Dean.
It will come on line later. A whole career in one article… amazing results… we are running in front, the rest will follow. Ah well the usual way Untold is 😉 LOL
Walter, Im wondering if http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/4301613.stm is what changed Dean? Perhaps it was Dein that pushed for his punishment?
