If you have been with us for a year or more you may recall that each spring I take a break from UK and head to the other side of the world wherein lives one of my daughters. Depending on all sorts of complexities which I won’t bore you it can be quite difficult to keep Untold running fully, and I suspect that is what is going to happen this year. I started the 30 hour journey from my home to my daughter’s home on 12 March and at the moment you read this will (British Airways permitting) be in the skies somewhere.
As a result for the next few weeks Untold will be intermittent both in its publication of articles and its clearing of comments that get caught up in our moderation system because of the use of naughty words, links to other sites, previous things said or any one of a dozen other reasons.
So if you note a lack of articles – you have two choices. You can either think “Oh yes, Tony’s trotted off to Australia again” and come back in a day or two, or instead sit down and write an article yourself which Untold can publish.

Enjoy your trip Tony. You’ve made the trip a few times, but have you ever wondered how different things are while on an airplane? A while ago, SpaceWeather (.com) started publishing snippets about gamma/x rays on commercial airplanes. Radiation on aircraft is more than just that. This morning on SpaceWeather, they have a note about a different facet of radiation from space, that being neutrons.
The article today mentioned a peak exposure of 260 mGy (that was the highest, all the others were lower), and compares that to dental and medical radiation imaging. The highest natural background radiation on Earth is in the vicinity of Ramsar, Iran. There exposures of 10mGy per year are “common”.
In the list of notable people from Ramsar, Iran is Mohammad Reza Khalatbari. He looks to be about as tall as Santi Cazorla. He is playing for Zob Ahan, which have the nickname of the “crocodiles”. I gather they finished second in their league last year.
I must get better at reading, the total exposure of the 5 continent trip the researcher in question received, was 230 uGy (microGray, not milliGray). Hence the exposures in Ramsar are quite a bit higher, but the time scales are quite a bit different as well (83 hours, versus 1 year).

30 hours flight journey from England to Australia is a whole day and 6 hours if it’s none stop Mr Attwood. I am sure you know it is. But it’s not nonstop fight but a stop over in a country after 12 – 18 hours none stop flight to rest for a day before continuing, I suppose? Or it isn’t but none stop flight for 30 hours? What of Jetlag? I leant that Kano airport in Kano town in Northern Nigeria is said to connect to any of the 2 London international airports in 6 hours none stop flight by Beoing 747 And I’ve also read the transatlantic flight from Lagos Nigeria to New York is done in 18 hours direct flight by Beoing 747. But I don’t know if the Boeing 747 passenger planes are still in operation for commercial passengers flight. Well, you are used to these very long journey flights, so they don’t hurt you.
The new Beoing 737 fleets are looking to be having a serious safety issue problem that is yet to be identified by the makers of the airplanes. I think they should re scan all the designed blue prints of the planes from A – Z of them to locate the root cause of the fault or faults in the planes that have caused 2 of them to crash after they have just taken off for some few minutes. There must be a fault or faults in the manufacturing of the airplanes that is or are causing them to crash after the model have just recently been in used by airlines as 2 of the airplanes have crashed already. I think Boeing should stop all the new 737 fleets from further flights by asking the airlines that bought them to ground the planes till further notice until when they can guarantee the fleets safe for commercial flights. But not wait when another of the planes crashed before they take action to temporarily stop the planes from operating commercial flights.
I think the Japanese Toyota company at one time re called a certain model of their cars from use that have break issue that was causing the cars to have accidents suddenly while they were in drive. But have the break issue fault in the cars been corrected and the cars are returned to the owners to continue using them, and there are no any complains on the break system of the cars anymore? I don’t know.

The great circle distance from London to Sydney is about 17,000 km. The typical cruising speed of a commercial airline is about 900 km/hr. Which puts the flight time at about 19 hours.

A Manager, his Assistant, an old woman and her young daughter are traveling in a train and during the course of time get themselves introduced to each other and become temporary friends.
The train goes through a tunnel and it gets completely dark.
Suddenly there is a kissing sound and then a slap.
The train comes out of the tunnel.
The women and the Assistant are sitting there looking perplexed.
The Manager is bending over holding his face, which is red from an apparent slap.
All of them remain diplomatic and nobody says anything.
The Old woman is thinking : “These Managers are all crazy after girls. He must have kissed my daughter in the tunnel. Very proper that she slapped him.”
The Young girl is thinking : “The Manager must have tried to kiss me but kissed my mother instead and got slapped.”
The Manager is thinking : “Damn it. My Assistant must have kissed the young girl. She might have thought it was me and slapped me.”
Now guess what the Assistant is thinking.
Now hold your breath and read what the Assistant is thinking………..
