Arsenal v Crystal Palace: the team

By Bulldog Drummond

And so the latest news and the guesses at the team

Crystal Palace Under-21 head coach Paddy McCarthy is the Palace manager at the moment.  Albert Sambi Lokonga is ineligible because he is on loan.

For Arsenal Takehiro Tomiyasu and William Saliba were both substituted in the week, but there is one suggestion that Saliba plays (see the team forecasts below).

As for the club, last season Arsenal finished on 69 points.

1 Manchester City 38 29 6 3 99 26 73 93
2 Liverpool 38 28 8 2 94 26 68 92
3 Chelsea 38 21 11 6 76 33 43 74
4 Tottenham Hotspur 38 22 5 11 69 40 29 71
5 Arsenal 38 22 3 13 61 48 13 69

,

And a win today will give Arsenal 69 points and six straight wins (plus the knowledge that we will at least have equally last season’s goal tally while playing 10 games fewer..,

And Arsenal will become and be the first team to win nine London derbies in a season.  So far the only derby that has eluded the team was the game against Brentford.

We might also note that Wilfried Zaha, who was tipped by the all knowing journalists as coming to Arsenal last summer, and the summer before and the summer before that, has failed to score in any of his last 10 Premier League games.

The Standard offers up

Ramsdale;

White, Holding, Gabriel, Zinchenko;

Odegaard, Partey, Xhaka;

Saka, Jesus, Martinelli.

Football.London are taking the insults a stage too far I think with a comment like “Not for the first time this season, football.london’sArsenal writers Kaya Kaynak and Tashan Deniran-Alleyne are on hand to offer their assistance to the Spanish tactician.”

Thankfully Mr Arteta has shown no inclination ever to take any notice of anything they say.  Their team prediction is exactly the same as the Standard

The Arsenal Way however tell us Saliba starts – if you want to pass the time of day watching a 30 minute video.

The Mirror offers something different however…

Ramsdale,

White, Kiwior, Gabriel, Zinchenko;

Partey, Xhaka; Odegaard,

Saka, Martinelli, Jesus

Pain in the Arsenal has a slight variation

Ramsdale;

White, Holding, Gabriel, Zinchenko;

Partey, Xhaka, Odegaard;

Saka, Trossard, Martinelli.

So, the news will soon be announced, then off we go again.

  1. What a good win. No injuries at first sight although Xhaka gave me a scare in the first half when he seemed to overstretch his knee a bit.
    Martinelli with a good goal, Saka with another 2 goals and Xhaka with a stumblin goal after another Trossard assist. The only bad moment was the equaliser from a corner. Ramsdale will be furious with that I think. But I don”t are for the moment. We knew we had to bounce back after losing on penalties last Thursday and to keep the pressure on Man City. We know we got our points but they still will have to take them on the field.

  2. Walter,
    I agree. Comprehensive win and 3 points. The goal against from a corner continues a worrying trend. Also, the number of breakaways CP had. If they could finish, the result might have been different. Perhaps they’ll clean up those things against better opposition. They certainly have the ability, do they have the mindset? I guess I’m getting nervous as we get to the run-in, lol. I’m happy they’re not.

    P.S. Glad you’re contributing again. Appreciate your insight.

  3. The winning continues, the young Gunners keep at it with the same energy and belief. And are having fun.
    And I am having fun watching them. They need to concentrate on the next game and nothing else.
    Thing is I believe they are, which is damn good news.

    Has anyone else noticed how the whole team is trying so hard to put Jesus into a scoring position ?

  4. WOO HOO , HOO ! A great win and may this run long continue . I thought that we did have the measure of their team and coped well mostly. That goal from a corner , still rankles , but they are quite a good side.
    Just hope that Liverpool will take points off Man City next. .
    Up the Gunners !
