I can now understand why we couldn’t find the ref of this game on the websites until it appeared on Arsenal.com. Ref Mason from the Everton game came back to the Emirates. But this time no Everton involved. Could he now show he can have a good game?

So on the big decisions he had a very good game this time. I would suggest you keep this in mind when we see him again in the EPL. Don’t say: well he just is useless. No he showed today that he can do a good game. Be it a rather easy game but he sure made most of the calls right this time.
He only missed 3 fouls on Arsenal players and Dean in the CC final missed almost 15 fouls. So he did what a ref should do and that is be unbiased in this game. And certainly when it came to the big decisions he was spot on.
So a good game from ref Mason this time. In fact the things he missed or did not give where most of the time the small things.

Why players from overseas get more cards than UK players
Just goes to show why refs should declare their allegiances. That way they’ll on be appointed for neutral games.
I guess that means more recruitment.

The only thing that worries me is you pointed out yourself Walter in meaningless cup games they are usualy Ref’d fair.
Its the finals or BIG matches like the one comming up that things take a change for the worst.
REdgooner, this is also my big worry and something that can be seen in the total scores of the refs during the season and the cup games
Like I said before: in the cup games you only need one game to tilt the final outcome (in the final) and in the EPL you need more bad refs and bad decisions. And unfortunatly this is showing in the numbers

I was happy reading the relatively inexperienced bit since I thought he might just be uninitiated into the clique… But then you go on and say Greater Manchester… Now I don’t know 🙂
But we have to win this match.. It’s vital. The ref simply cannot be allowed to get in our way.
The tackle at 45 mins was a red card offence as it was uncontrolled with studs showing. It was a bone breaker.

i was reading his ref profile page on refworld’s website and he seemed alright but so does dowd, so we’ll just have to wait and see!

Spot on Walter- and well done Mr Mason. By my reckoning you are nearly twice as good as Nellie Dean (a much sung about lady in WW1 times!!) And pass on our regards to our favourite Yorkshireman (since Radford, Sunderland and Rix) — a ref no less– by the name of Atkinson. No brown noser–he!! He is apparently not on SAF’s chrismas card list. What would his score have been Walter? Let us see how fair Mr Riley’s young-fellow-me lad appointment from Greater Manchester is. As if we didn’t know- we have seen once again how ref’s decisions can easily define the result of a football match. But what all football lovers want most of all- IS FAIRNESS!!
