The 22 players Arsenal are already said to be signing.

Ahead of our regular update on new transfer tales there is an interesting analysis in TBR of the transfer debt of various clubs.   At the top of the list we find

Club Transfer debt (£m) Lge Pos 2025
Chelsea £498 4
Tottenham Hotspur £337 17
Manchester United £331 15
Arsenal £268 2
Manchester City £230 3
West Ham £191 14

Now from Arsenal’s point of view that doesn’t look too bad given that the club has come second three years running following three finishes of 8th, 8th and 5th, but we might wonder about Chelsea who have of course just won the little cup to great excitement beating the great Real Betis, but have come 12th, 6th and 4th in the League in the past three years.  If 2nd, 2nd, 2nd for Arsenal is a failure, what is the Chelsea sequence?

But we must remember that the debt accumulated by Tottenham gained them 17th place, and Manchester United 15th place.  West Ham of course have no debt being given their stadium by the state, but they are still only 14th in the league, which is a bit feeble.

And it raises the question that the media absolutely will never face (because transfer rumours are their prime source of free news without reporters) which is that not only do 97% of the transfers they “report” never happen (see our reports for the last four seasons), but that spending money doesn’t always equate to instant success.  Or indeed any success ever.

But stories abound that Arsenal will spend, as for example according to David Ornstein, who was recently speaking on NBC Sports, that Arsenal have a game plan for the summer transfer window. As the fortune teller said, “Arsenal have loads more to do….

“They will try and renew the contract of Thomas Partey – no outcome on that yet. Maybe a defender too because they missed out on Dean Hujsen, [and] a second-choice goalkeeper as well.”

“Once the signing of Zubimendi has been completed, Arteta will turn his attentions to other additions, hoping to see a new winger arrive in north London.”  Which, implies the Mail, shows there is no transfer team – it is all Arteta.

So here is the latest rumour table…  22 players so far, probably 100 more by the end of August (if previous seasons are anything to go by)…

  1. Time was that articles published here would get between 20 to 30 comments not so now What’s happening?

  2. We have come under attack repeatedly from sources unknown, although I suspect it might be from people who don’t like our viiews on topics that others do not handle. This has put a lot of people off I think. But we keep on nonetheless.
