The two Arsenal teams for the Emirates Cup (BT makes EPSN looks good)

By Tony, Our Man with a BT Sport subscription

So, on 60 minutes Suarez came on for Liverpool in the friendly, and ran about a bit.  Within seconds Liverpool scored.  Were the facts connected?  Probably not.

Meanwhile, working on my new book on Bob Dylan I have just paid “Caribbean Wind” about 50 times and still haven’t got my review right.  Ah well – at least the Arsenal match is on.  Yesterday my Sky Guide denied the fact insisting that BT were doing a night time review of yesterday.   Could Sky be trying to scupper BT’s new service.  Surely not!

I remember a time a few years back when Arsenal put out their first team for the second of the two days at the Emirates Cup and the reserves for the first match.  Those reserves were young.  Very young.  And probably not going to get much of a game during the season.

But this time looking at the players available it is hard to fit in everyone who has had some first team experience, across the two teams, especially in midfield and attack.  Only defence gives us a problem in putting out two obvious teams.

Here is a team that we have been putting out pre-season

Fabianski

Jenkinson  Mertesacker  Sagna  Gibbs
.
Rosicky  Arteta   Ramsey
.
Podolski  Giroud Walcott

Now here’s another team

Sczecszczysz

Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Miquel,

Arteta, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain,

Walcott, Giroud, Gnabry

That team has Sagna, Mert, Arteta, Walcott and Giroud in both.

So who have we got left to fit in to ensure no one plays twice?   Monreal is not fit, so that’s a problem and Vermaelen has a long term injury.  But we do have

Olsson, Aneke, Ryo, Eisfeld, Zelalem, Akpom,  Sanogo, and Cazorla.

The replacements could be

  • Sagna,replaced by Bellerin?
  • Mert replaced by Daniel Boateng?
  • Arteta replaced by Zelalem
  • Walcott replace with Cazorla
  • Giroud replaced by Sanogo

In effect two questions, a young genius, an established player and our incoming player.

Of course just a load of wild guesswork from me.  And I’m sorry not to have a place for Olsson who could well have a future with us.

We’ll know soon enough.

UPDATE: BT are showing how to run a sports channel in a chaotic way.  The channel is shown on the TV guide as showing “nightly news and debate from BT Sport”.  Radio Times says they are showing Porto v Galatasary.  And they have a kick about and Liverpool ex-men talking gibberish.  They are making the awful ESPN look like a professional station.

It’s Thierry Henry Day

  1. Good God, I do believe you’re making fun of Szczesny’s name.

    Q. How old are you?
    Q. You actually think this funny?
    Q. Making fun of a foreign Arsenal player’s name because it lacks familiarity … as in us and them? Just like racists do?

You are either very old (because that was the kind of thing people used to do all the time) … very, very young (because that’s the kind of thing children do before their parents explain why it’s wrong) … or someone not very nice indeed.

Most of us took the time to learn his name a long time ago as a sign of respect if nothing else. Big word respect.

  2. ES apparently trying to make jokes? Either that or ES is just illiterate? Who knows?

ES you are either a homophobic algeria smuggler or a walrus….or someone not very nice indeed.

See what I did there? 3 pointless questions with very large implicit assumptions (which are probably wrong), followed by 3 impossible to connect conclusions about ES. What a simple formula you’ve stumbled onto!

For the record, Tony isn’t very very old or very very young, seems quite nice to me, and knows how to spell the name. It’s a joke he’s making. And I and others do find it funny. It’s really not the sort of thing to go knocking over coffee and shouting out words like ‘respect’ over.

  3. The team

    Fabianski
    Jenkinson Mert Koscilenny Gibbs
    Ramsey wilshere Gnarbry
    Rosicky Podolski Giroud

The thing about the other goalkeeper’s name is that I spelled it wrongly a couple of times, as was pointed out here. I have the dyslexia gene, and although have learned to spell, patiently and slowly, over the years there are still many words I just can’t get. So other than doing a cut and paste every time I wanted to write the name I just ended up writing Szs etc.

It is interesting how occasionally people do take time to write in and complain about grammar and spelling – yet few bother to check if the writer is a native speaker of English, and whether the writer or editor has a special need like this.

Anyway, we publish most of the comments sent in – my errors with “there” and “their” often excite some people. I can’t quite see why, but there it is.

  4. Well, if BT Sprot actually does manage to show it rather than have Liverpudlians chatting away hour after tedious hour, then yes. There are pictures from the ground at the moment.

I might make some spilling mistooks tho

  5. 2 mins. Gnabry tries to place the ball in from a rebound, it just goes wide.
5 mins. A great pass by Grabry – he looks so calm.
6 mins: Cock up in the Arsenal defence after a long pass forwards is headed by Jenkinson but he loses sight of the ball and Napoli score.

  6. 8 mins: Gnabry is taking the corners on the right. The commentator Darke is still talking about a lack transfers
9 mins: Brilliant centre from Gnabry and Giroud almost touches in.
13 mins: Napoli keeper Reina wasting time then pushes ball out to Gnabry who tries to chip from 40 yards and is only just over.

  7. 15 mins. Co-commentator admits he has never heard the phrase Indonesian Dream Team and did not know the result of the friendly.

16 mins. Arsenal get a penalty. Hargreaves calls it a terrible decision. Players protest. Podolski taking it
Saved. Kick along the floor and too close to keeper and not enough power. “Mumbles of discontent” according to Darke commentating.

  8. 19 mins: Hargreaves manages to say that a player (Jenkinson) coming from behind can obstruct the player in front. Darke says how wonderful we have controversy. Hargreaves demands Napoli player.

20 mins: Reina now being booed for endless time wasting, in the Bolton sthyle.Having described discontent in the crown Darke now ignores the much more vocal protest.

22 mins Benitez moves onto volume 2 of his notes for the match.

  9. 27 min. 0-2. Excellent goal. Fab. makes a mistake allowing the player to go around him and Pandev scores from a tight angle. Arsenal don’t look coherent at the moment;

  10. Possession is mostly Arsenal, pushing through but Napoli breaking well on the counter. BT Sprot revelling in this, still talking on the half hour about the £70 million, fans unhappy, exactly what we have heard time and again.

Game going slowly … no urgency and at least the commentators get that right, still commenting on the transfers, and how Arsenal celebrated getting 4th last season.

32 mins. Podolski just wide with a shot from the left. Arsenal corner.

  11. 36 mins. Ramsey scores but is fractionally offside. Hargreaves has said “not enough width” four times in the last four minutes.

39 mins: Gnabry pushing forwards regularly but being pushed off the ball somewhat. but we’ve had the whole “found playing in America” thing

42 mins: we are back to the last game of last season.

43 mins: Darke says, “two nil down at home Arsenal” A great insight.

43 mins: Good attempt by Giroud from Podolski pass

44 mins. Hargreaves still talking about the fact that indonesia call their team the Dreamteam. I think that was the eighth time.

    Half time

  12. Arsenal were dominant at the start and Gnabry’s chance was easily the best of the first few minutes yet the commentators were already talking about Napoli being more dangerous…NOT.

However the half did change with Napoli looking good on the break. Our high line means that if the forwards don’t press quickly there will time for a defender to find space for a well placed long ball.

Still, we are getting the ball into the box a fair bit and with a bit of luck could be on the board.

  13. The commentary is banal so much so I am switching the sound off for the 2nd half. A cheer for Orient who won 4-1 away at Carlisle.

  14. I didn’t think I would ever hear a co-commentator worse than Chris Twaddle but Owen Hargreaves has just amazed me by doing the impossible.

  15. Second half, Higuain on.

47 mins Wilshere takes ball through four players and shoots just wide.

51 mins: Blimey Hargreaves changing his tune and saying positive stuff. Arsenal free kick 10 yards outside penalty box but straight at wall. Then Podolski fires over bar from next attack.

  16. Thanks to the BT commentary team and panel I have learnt a few things that I didn’t realize and probably you didn’t either.

We haven’t won anything for eight years.
Wenger hasn’t spent any of his £70 million transfer kitty.
We have no chance of any silverware unless we buy some players.

Why is it I have got this deja vu feeling.
Out of all the ex footballers available surely they can find one with a kind word to say about Arsenal.

  17. Hargreaves is getting one thing right; Koscielny has been very good today. But really, we used to call ESPN the Micky Mouse channel, what on earth can we call BT Sprot?

Everything about today has been a mess. The wrong listings both on the TV and in Radio Times, the mindless gibberish that passes for a commentary.

61 min Kos easily takes ball from Higuain. Arsenal attack Podolski gets a chance but it is blocked.

62 min Alex Oxlade Chamberlain on for Ramsey

    Arteta on for Jack Wilshere

  18. Dear Tony and Sam …

You can either be dyslexic or be making a joke, but it’s pretty difficult to be both over the same thing.

This isn’t grammar nor is it spelling, it’s shameful and you should accept your responsibility as a blogger to get it right. If you can’t see that then you shouldn’t be blogging.

As for it being funny … that’s what racists say every single time as an excuse. Maybe it’s OK for Suarez and Terry too.

So shame on you for not having the courage to say sorry.

Keep making excuses and keep digging a deeper and deeper hole for yourselves. It’s time you both looked in the mirror.

  19. 66 minutes – it has gone rather quiet. Uninspiring.

    BT Ignorance?

According to Darke “The transfer market could all change in the next week.”

69 minutes higuain misses by 30 yards.

70 mins, Arsenal pressure, but it is always lacking the last touch.

71 mins: Giroud shot – corner
Corner comes over and Giroud scores with an overhead kick.

    1-2

  20. 73 mins. The Ox pushes through. Reina takes forever to deliver the free kick. We are told it is going to be a big year for Oxlade Chamberlain

    More lively now.

  21. The silly commentators have to mention the luck involved in Giroud’s goal. How many times have we seen Lampard get deflected goals and heard that it was because of Chelsea pressure.

  22. Just back on the issue of whether misspelling the name of a player deliberately is somehow wrong, I just don’t think it is an issue. Not sure how racism got into the debate, but certainly being Polish is not a racist matter – there is no Polish race, nor is there an English or British race. I wonder if there are objections to calling Oxlade-Chamberlain The Ox, or Mert for Mertersacker.

    Anyway…

80 mins. Arsenal free kick on the right. It bobbles around in the area, comes out, goes back, but a lot of careless passing.

83 mins – it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Oxlade-C had a nice shot from outside the area.

  23. 85 min.Arsenal equalise. Mert almost gets it with a superb header and then Kos comes up and gets the header in after the keeper saves. Love to know who Kos was waving at in the crowd.

    Akpom on.

    2-2

  24. Did you know that an abortion in Prague is termed a cancelled Czech ?

  25. You’re not singing any more being sung for a moment – the only song we’ve been able to hear.

Suddenly very open. Sagna does a wonderful intercept to get to Walcott. Arsenal pressure. 2 mins added time.

Napoli break, Kos does wonders to keep the ball in and start an attack. Arsenal free kick on left of area.

  26. “Mertesacker almost knicked it for Arsenal even though they probably didn’t deserve to win” what a joke!! we took over the game when our subs came on.

  27. I looked and looked and looked but I couldn’t see those unhappy Arsenal fans. Even at 2 goal down, they were very enthusiastic and supportive. All the noise of ‘unhappiness’ is kind of limited to some fans on the Internet.

Also, I think I prefer Giroud to Higuain. Giroud is a hardworker, precisely what we need. Maybe our defenders are very good or Higuain is not that great.

It’s a pity Sagna is getting that beautiful goal!

  28. GoingGoingGooner,

    Please ignore them.

    Haters got to hate!

    I’m proud of our team.

  29. Interesting comment earlier about my responsibilities as a blogger. Not sure I have ever really thought about it, but it is interesting.

I just started this blog because I was interested in trying to put another point of view across, and within that I stay true to the moralities that I hold dear.

I don’t know – we get over half a million views on this blog each month, does that mean that Walter and I have responsibilities beyond the things we believe in, in day to day life?

  30. ES,

Do you also think that it is racist to call Ramsey “Rambo”? BTW, how can a white man be racist to another white man? Com’on, pick a different issue.

You are giving self-righteous lectures to a man that you clearly don’t know. I doubt any Untolder, even the most negative, will pick the fight that you are clinging to here. The player’s name is difficult to spell but there is no malice intended.

  31. Tony,
Sorry, but I’ve never agreed with your scathing criticism of ESPN and now the BT Sports Channel.
Please remember that far more fans will rely on BT (and Sky) to follow Arsenal than will ever attend at the Emirates.
And after all, there is such a thing as the mute button.

  32. Notice the difference between our second string and first string? First half we were a little unsure, second half more in control. Wenger seems like he is checking out how certain combinations work against a decent team, and making his notes on what players we still need. I was expecting them to play 5-1-4 with the fifth man and fourth man moving to mid field and back as needed, where the 5th and 4th man are not one and the same 2 players. This worked well, but it seems we are finally trying out different strategies in order to have our team completely versatile. One thing that annoys me though, is that Wenger does not seem to make notes, either on paper or mentally during the game, and expect his team to take responsibility for the game once it starts. This sometimes puts us at a slight disadvantage, when the opposition changes shape due to their coach giving instructions in game, but i suppose that’s Wenger, and i (should)have to get/got used to it (by now).
Anyway, good game, little slow, but i think no one wants to get injured before season starts. Higuain was quite silent/silenced really? Wonder why?

  33. The importance of Arteta!! The moment he came on, we were less easily bypassed in midfield. It’s early days but I suspect Wilshere and Ramsey together will not work against top teams. Gnabry isn’t ready yet. But he’s a massive talent. A loan deal at a PL club hopefully.

I hope we see Bellerin tomorrow. If Sagna is going to provide CB cover from time to time, then we might need Bellerin at some point.

Podolski had a poor game. But I think our attack is decent. Though it’s easy to see what a more efficient Gervinho (Suarez?) would add to it. Fabianski- PLease please keep your concentration up because you have the ability to be a very good keeper. I hope he doesn’t revert to his earlier fragile temperament.

Overall, a decent pre season run out against a good team. There’s still work that needs to be done, both in training (Jenkinson, keep the line) and in the transfer market. A DM and striker are essential in my view. Add a CB and we’re solid. A winger (if RYo or Gnabry aren’t ready) and we’re unstoppable.

  34. Tony. A last few words on the matter.

Write to any appropriate university professor detailing our exchanges (uncoloured and without bias) and see the response. Why an academic? Because they will be able to direct you to contemporary literature. Just asking someone Polish (for example) would result in an answer that cannot be accepted as objective and/or authoritative.

You really haven’t a clue and you need to be shown why by someone other than myself. On the other hand you might choose not to bother. Pretend that everything’s fine. Maybe take Sam’s and John Terry’s line that as long as it was ‘funny’ then it’s acceptable. Or reiterate your own flailing arguments about ‘races’ or nicknames. (When will some people learn?)

You spend so much of your time here trying to occupy the high ground on issues when, in truth, you’re little better than those you criticise.

Don’t expect me to come back anytime soon either. You can e-mail me if you have the courage. Though chances are you’ll pretend none of this actually matters or find some more Sam’s to make yourself feel better.

  35. Tony ,meet Socrates .

True wisdom comes to each of us when we realize how little we understand about life, ourselves, and the world around us.

I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think.

Well I am certainly wiser than this man. It is only too likely that neither of us has any knowledge to boast of; but he thinks that he knows something which he does not know, whereas I am quite conscious of my ignorance. At any rate it seems that I am wiser than he is to this small extent, that I do not think that I know what I do not know.

Employ your time in improving yourself by other men’s writings so that you shall come easily by what others have labored hard for.

To find yourself, think for yourself.

As for myself , this quote resonates well.
Slanderers do not hurt me because they do not hit me.

  36. I had hoped to get to the Emirates but unfortunately was not able to do so. Having watched the match on BT, I had the commentary quickly turned off.

It was an interesting game, with some excellent football. We looked a more solid team in the second half, but overall could and should have scored another 3 or 4 goals. Napoli were very dangerous on the break – but Higuain did not look value for money today.

  37. Nature has given us two ears, two eyes, and but one tongue-to the end that we should hear and see more than we speak.
    Socrates

And that’s goodnight from me .

  38. Tony,

Why do I feel like you might have offended ES in a different way? Anyone seeing his/her tirades would think that you have insulted the keeper’s fictitious non-white mother using an ugly racial slur. I am really scared to write his name now lest I be accused of racism too. And mine would stick because I’m black.

  39. Imagine the indigant outrage if Tony had spelt the GKs name as Chesney??

    Doesnt bare thinking about.

  40. Commentators – so annoying I turned the sound off.
    Picture Quality – good
Transmission – I needed to do a full system reboot twice when the stream failed
Overall on BT- D- must do better

Arsenal – unlucky, Gnabry could have had two, Jack could have scored and Podolski should have done much better. The team spirit was certainly on display again though and I think we will be quite hard to beat this year.

I’m at the games tomorrow with Daughter and Grand-daughter so hoping for a more polished performance

    COYG

  41. None of the commentators pronounce Rosicky’s name correctly. Its not and never been Rosisky…it drives me mad..at least Wenger pronounces it correctly. Shite….I hope I am not being racist by pointing this out.

  42. I watched the game through a stream from Chile. The Spanish (language, not nationality, as far as I know. Please. I’m not racist) commentators were really fun to listen to. Such excitement in their voices, and they called Giroud’s goal a ‘gooooolllaaazzoooo’.

Their pronounciation of the player’s name were also entertaining. Geebs, Rumsey, Jenkinsaun, Rrrrrrrroooosickee. But Wilshere was a very correct clipped WilSHERE, and the Ox was OXLADE. I wonder whether they are aware they are potentially being racist. I mean Shzczesnzesy would be so offended if he read this article. Oh my God. How dare someone make fun of how difficult it is to spell my name. Who cares if he means offense or says it because he sees me as one of his tribe. It’s racist I tells ya.

A word of advice to ES (was it? Or did I get that name wrong? I honestly don’t remember). If you see racism everywhere, it is more likely that you are conditioned to thinking in racist terms, even if you are fighting against it. Case in point, Tony mentioned someone by name. It was you who grouped him as a race, and then determined that Tony was insulting Szczesny (he wasn’t), and therefore he was insulting the entire Polish nation/people. Get over yourself.

  43. When we’re in Eastern Europe for work my mate Keith is always called Kate as they don’t have Keith as a name. They all think it highly amusing, especially after we explain.

Thank you ES for enlightening me, now I know they are all just a nasty bunch of English hating racists, and I’ll be sure not to tip, or smile.

  44. Today I learned that spelling something incorrectly is racist. Even when it’s someone of your own race. And even when there is nothing negative or ethnocentric to go along with it. Beautiful 🙂

  45. …also in China they can’t handle my surname and struggle with my first due to the r’s.

Imagine that, 1 billion racists in one place, they sure pulled the wool over my eyes with their amazing friendliness and hospitality which I now know to be a cunning ruse to mock me.

  46. I had to work today, so I listened to TALKSHITE.The tosser Durham need to be sorted out,not in a physical way!.
He continued as usual to take the piss out of AW and Arsenal and the fans.Naturally, he was delighted when we went two nil down. The crap he was coming out of was mind blowing.A very, very unhappy tosser when we scored two.I really do think we should All email the station to show our displeasure. He is a nasty, nasty person and should not be allowed to make the comments he does on national radio.

  47. @Robl looks like they’ve tricked all of us since sometime in the late 50s hahaha.

  48. @ Sam, I just hope for his sake ES doesn’t stumble down the road to WHL, as I’ve heard that they refer to themselves on occasion as something which may induce a coronary in one so sensitive.

  49. “There’s still work that needs to be done, both in training (Jenkinson, keep the line) and in the transfer market. A DM and striker are essential in my view. Add a CB and we’re solid. A winger (if RYo or Gnabry aren’t ready) and we’re unstoppable.”
    Shard,
    Amen. Period.

  50. Great positive crowd today! And great comeback by the team. Ramsey got a lesson learned (he is not an Arteta yet) but he can still be usefull in other positions 🙂

And if u are Reading this bootoomee and want to have a chat tomorrow I am seated at Block 16 Lower Tier, row 8, seat 511

  51. The same stories are creeping up on Wenger, defence was tripe, lacking ideas in the final third you get the hint

  52. @Marvin
    Same AAA blah, blah, blah!
    I heard the boos(minimal).
    Possible reasons:
    Reina’s time wasting
    Refs performance

  53. What is ES on? I’m Chinese heard seen all sorts of racist abuse Congus, Congy Pongy King Cong Bundee etc., Tony you were joking with stereotypical cultural jokes. Its your opinion there is no malice. ES you seem like a person who just likes to complain!

If you won the lottery you probably would say oh the last person won more than me! My life is so tough… I have food everyday and have TV to watch in a warm house!

ES you should live a little appreciate life, you can call me King Cong if you want it won’t kill me. when it is used in malice that it is offensive and of course tone or belittling.

Enjoy Pony and Falter’s friendly discussions, with insight of thought when he writes he’s blog. Having only one view point as you are pinpointing to in regards to what has been said is also a limiting factor I back them for not being racist. If you refer to academics I have 2 degrees.

I do not see what asking a professor will differ, its being able to express what is on your mind be able to communicate to learn and accept different cultures that would lead greater knowledge of being a greater human being.

I see this in Tony and Walters blog, a great intelligent intellectual sense of humour providing more clarity over what simpletons they call the media and pundits. You only learn when you make mistakes and I see no problem here with name spelling, like crying over spilt milk!

Sorry about the rant, I just thought it was unjustified! And that Tony and Walter are too open minded and so full of discussions and insight to be racist!

I think the team is shaping up! Its just getting used to the team mates which can only come when playing games! Gnarby did very well! very composed. Can’t wait for the whole team to get more games to gel and play some sexy football!

  54. WISDOM OF THE AGES .

The last wishes of Alexander the Great:

On his deathbed, Alexander summoned his generals and told them his three ultimate wishes:

    1. The best doctors should carry his coffin;

    2. The wealth he has accumulated (money, gold, precious stones) should be scattered along the procession to the cemetery, and

    3. His hands should be let loose, hanging outside the coffin for all to see.

One of his generals who was surprised by these unusual requests asked Alexander to explain.

Here is what Alexander the Great had to say:

    1. I want the best doctors to carry my coffin to demonstrate that, in the face of death, even the best doctors in the world have no power to heal.

    2. I want the road to be covered with my treasure so that everybody sees that material wealth acquired on earth, stays on earth.

    3. I want my hands to swing in the wind, so that people understand that we come to this world empty handed and we leave this world empty handed after the most precious treasure of all is exhausted, and that is TIME.

TIME is our most precious treasure because it is LIMITED.
We can produce more wealth, but we cannot produce more time.

When we give someone our time, we actually give a portion of our life that we will never take back. Our time is our life.

May God grant you plenty of TIME and may you have the wisdom to give it away so that you can LIVE & LOVE in peace.

  55. Every time that French idiot open his mouth to speak I feel like putting my pair of stinking socks in it. You know that pair I worn for a week and forgot to send it for a wash. Now he’s blabbering on about buying the right players as opposed to last month when he was boasting about top top players. The con man as usual is gradually changing his tune as dateline day approaches and knowing him this is his message to the fans that he is after another cheapo from the French league.

  56. my 3 pennethworth on the ‘racist’ thing (as an academic Sam – not that you’ll ‘be back’). People take can offence at all sorts of things but I think its important to look at intent. I visited the excellent Propaganda exhibition at the British Library this week and one section looks at racial slurs (mainly against Jewish people). The use of language and imagery is deliberate and intended to denigrate and exploit underlying prejudices (‘the steal our jobs’, ‘they look funny’ etc ad nauseum). What Tony did was not intended to offend our keeper and that should be the end of it. Sam should read the rest of Tony’s articles and he would see the quality of the man.
I’m in the lower East stand today, near the middle. Yesterday I was up above in the upper stand. I will file my (catering etc) report tonight or tomorrow.

  57. Good grief Brickfields, haven’t even had second breakfast yet on a sunny Sunday morning by the banks of the Liffey, and you’re sharing pearls of wisdom!!!!
    Top man, merci much.
Whoever described time as such certainly had it right.
Thanks again for a lovely start to the day.
Now bring on Galatasaray and let our boy Gedeon take them apart for our entertainment.
    Allez les Gunners.

  58. Anybody wanting to read an article about our “emotionally juvenile” club, and how “big summer signings” are the new trophies,(!!) and how Wenger has “been reluctantly drawn into the dizzily spinning transfer carousel this summer” should read the “article” at the Telegraph on line by Johnathan Liew.

On the other hand you might want to read “Ant and Bee and the secret”, there’s more objectivity in it.

Also Liew mentioned, and Yahoo ran pieces about about booing at half time yesterday, how true was this?

  59. liam,

You wear a pair socks for a WHOLE week? That is disgusting.

I think you just choose to interpret his words as you like. AW is very consistent about the type of players he wants: those who will improve the team at necessary areas and at the right price. Anything else is just throwing away money to make people like you happy. I’m glad he doesn’t do that.

  60. blacksheep63,

The outrage merchant is ES, not Sam.

My problem with the sort of trivial and unnecessary fight that he is picking here is that they end up numbing people’s sensitivity to genuine acts of racism.

I really doubt his sincerity on or understanding of the issue.

  61. A lot of boos against reina and strangely higuain. Pantomime fashion. The fans really got behind the team as we pressed to catch them. As for the haters in the media..well pre seasons don’t matter but note they said very little about 5pur2. Imagine if we had let five in! We took time to settle with bad consequences but were good in the second half. Good training exercise

  62. Bricksfield thanks for the words of wisdom, not WASTING my time on ES. I’m LIVING AND LOVING UNTOLD LOL using great use of my LIMITED time.
