by Sir Hardly Anyone
The attacks on Arsene Wenger continue of course. The guy says that he has had a hard time personally over the recent defeats, and the response of The Transfer Tavern web site is to publish a handful of tweets abusing him. That’s probably par for the course these days. As Tony will be reporting later, West Ham fans are supposedly also throwing the abuse around – the but events there make the national media. Day by day for Arsenal, it means nothing.
So let’s get down to the players being lined up for Arsenal to miss.
1: Lemar
From Monaco to Arsenal – that deal was confirmed (according to reports) weeks ago, but apparently Arsenal now face competition from Manchester City” So cue the “Arsenal too slow” story next. Anyway the Man City interest is in a Telegraph exclusive so it must be true.
2. Andre Silva
The AC Milan striker that is, and it is yet another “Arsenal too slow” story in the making for Monaco fancy him. This we are told is a HUGE blow. So bigger than a puff and smaller than a raging storm. The player’s agent, Jorge Mendes is holding talks with the Monaco board because Arsenal have yet made a serious offer. And we know that is right because it is in the 4th Official.
3: “Geoffrey Kondogbia to Tottenham was a thing”.
That’s my favourite bloggetta headline of the week. And I mention it because FC Inter News state most seriously that there is a real interest “from Arsène Wenger in the former Monaco starlet”.
The guy is currently on loan at Valencia from Inter, but Valencia want to keep him full time. Sport Witness plays the role of fiction inventor in this one.
4: Luan Vieira
Now anyone named Vieira is naturally of interest to Arsenal and they’ve been after the forward from Gremio for some considerable time – at least according to the Daily Star, who also have Liverpool and the Tiny Totts chasing him for a while. He has played for Brazil twice and for his club has taken 131 games to score 36 goals and give 22 assists. Or so I am told.
5: Andrea Pinamonti
This is the 19-year-old AC Milan “sensation” with six goals and three assists in six matches in …. UEFA Youth League. Standing at 6 feet 1 inches tall Pinamonti is as strong as he is quick with his feet (it says). “The striker is well adept in holding up the ball to link up with his teammates and puts in a decent defensive shift.” This from the 4th Official and is very similar to what is said by Sportskeeda, so it must be true.
6: Karim Benzema
Now you will be forgiven for thinking this is pretty much old news, because actually it is old news. Arsenal were said to have signed him in January by si.com and by the Daily Star, and then when that didn’t happen, in February by the Daily Star (again) as a transfer for this summer (with no admission that their earlier prognostication was totally invented to fill up space. Have these journalists no shame???). In fact the Guardian had the story in September last year – and there were multiple “Deal Done” stories for ages before that.
Anyway the “4th official” site think it is still news, and who are we to argue? [Couldn’t we send the Peaky Blinders round? – Tony]
7: Jose Gimenez
This one comes from the Mirror who say that Atletico Madrid are willing to let Arsenal have Jose Gimenez in a swap deal with Laurent Koscielny in return.
8: Jakub Jankto
Now the Metro, whose ability to predict transfers is so slow it is actually below absolute zero tells us that Giuseppe Riso, Jankto’s agent will ‘definitely’ hold transfer talks with Arsenal. He plays for Udinese as a midfielder (that is Jankto not his agent).
9: Mohamed Elyounoussi
Arsenal are reportedly considering making a move for Norway international forward according to ESPN. He is a forward, he is 23 and he plays for Basel.
10: Jorginho
I suspect this one is recycled on the basis that the Daily Express’ readership is so forgetful they can’t remember which player they have been told is Arsenal bound and which not. He is a central midfielder and Liverpool and Man U also fancy their chances with him. He’s 26 and plays for Napoli – apparently very regularly in fact.
Now anyone at Napoli is interesting because they are unexpectedly top of the League in Italy and that brings their players to every whippersnapper’s attention. But their fans would burn down the city if having put together such a team they would then let them slip apart and travel elsewhere. But the 4th Official think it is on.
We shall see.
- 38 players joining Arsenal, 8 leaving and five new managers. it will be quite a summer!!!
- It’s all too easy to be a fan after a win. It’s being a fan ALWAYS that really counts
- An away day in Milan: time to pop into the cemetery.
Rashford scores for man u (his first one) goes into the crowd… no booking.
15 minutes later he gets booked for a bad foul when it should have been a sending off.
Those little edges.
Was this all a wind up to confuse Liverpool ?

Knobby
I just mentioned on the other thread that he also got away with kicking the ball away.
I posed the question: will we get a fuss from the talking heads similar to the shit Jack got when he supposedly escaped a 2nd yellow for a dive recently.
Not a chance.
