The 27 players Arsenal are tipped to buy and the 16 who are leaving

By Sir Hardly Anyone

Each year we gather together the rumours of players coming and going in relation to Arsenal, and then at the end look at how many we got and how many were correct.  The normal figure is around 110 players rumoured to be coming and most of the existing squad leaving.  The accuracy rate is about 3%.

Of course the window is still firmly shut at the moment so not much the club can do but that is not stopping the scribblers from making things up.

Leaving Arsenal this summer…

Everyone is off: “Stars may exit if Arsenal fail to make the Champions League this summer” says the Guardian but really I think that is cheating.  At least the writers ought to be putting a bit of energy into their make-believe.  Otherwise, what’s the point of it all?

But so far it is 16 players to leave in what would be the biggest shake up of all time.

  1. Seeing this kind of article does make me smile, but according to the Premier League Website the transfer window opened on May 16th.

  2. The only current players on that list I would be keen to keep are – Lacca, Aubam. Kolasinac and Soctratis.

  3. Keep Kolasinac? Yes & No. (He often gets stuck in his footing to lose procession. And his crossings into the opponent’s area/box are sometimes poor for lacking the required pinpoint accuracy quality to find any Gunners in the area/box arriving or waiting to pounce. But his crossings can a times be good when he seldom gets it right. And has he pace?). If during this current summer window Arsenal does find and sign a better than him and Monreal who are both playing at left back and as left wing back for Arsenal. Then, one of Monreal or Kolasinac will have to leave to make room for the new left back/wing back singing. Presumably, because of his becoming advanced in age and also getting slower and slower in pace, I can see the onus to leave Arsenal this summer falling on Monreal to leave. But it all depends on what Emery thinks.

At any rate, the one major new player signing that I want to see Arsenal do this summer window unfailingly, is the signing of another 20 League goals per season striker. This is very very important for Arsenal to do this summer. And they should in my own view prioritise this particular signing above any other signings they want to do this summer. But I am not saying they should jettison the other signings they intended to do this summer for only a 3rd prolific striker signing that I am suggesting they should sign.

Okay, taking the last season goals scoring record of Aubameyang and Lacazette in the PL as an indicator to make projection for how many goals the duo strikers could guaranteed scoring for Arsenal next season in the PL, I’ll take Aubameyang to score a minimum of 20 PL goals for Arsenal next season. And I’ll also take Lacazette to score 15 PL goals for Arsenal too next season. But those are a minimum of 35 goals the duo strikers could guaranteed scoring for Arsenal next season in the PL. But as we all know too well, these 35 goals if scored by the duo won’t take us near the win of the PL title next season.

Therefore, to get in into the echelons of the 2 or 3 teams that will battle it out to win the PL title next season, Arsenal will need to sign a top quality 20 minimum League goals per season striker. But not just sign a top striker for cover and option who can’t get beyond scoring 10 League goals in a League season’s campaign. That won’t be good enough as Arsenal will need a minimum of 55 League goals scored by 3 strikers and additionally, the minimum of 10 League goals scored contributions each by the midfielders and the defenders at Arsenal which if gotten will make it a minimum total of 75 League goals that Arsenal would have scored in next season’s PL campaign. And that should put us in the position of competing to win the League with the 2 known PL club sides who last season finished 1st and 2nd in the League.

By doing the needful signings correctly for the club this summer window, Arsenal could win the PL title next season against all predictions.

  4. Still a big shame that Welbeck is leaving. I don’t know if he was offered a contract or if he’s leaving by choice but he recently scored a hat trick in a low key private match and is likely to be in the squad for our match next week.
What fool considers that Bale would join us (if we even wanted him to)? He’s more interested in seeing out the final two years of his £500,000 per week contract on the Madrid golf courses.
