By Sir Hardly Anyone
Three players at once? Yes if you believe the media. But then, on the other hand, if you believe the media then you believe, well, just about anything. Including the fact that we are currently trying to sign 54 players.
But I thought it might be fun to put these three on record since everyone down at the Toppled Bollard is doing their collective heads in over these three.
Let’s take Saliba. Here’s what the media johnnies are saying
- Saliba to Arsenal (
- William Saliba scout report: The lowdown on Arsenal’s likely first summer signing (
- William Saliba tells Arsenal he wants to join them this summer (Express)
- Arsenal target William Saliba has told Gunners one thing (Daily Star) (he wants to join them
- Arsenal’s £25m William Saliba transfer hits snag as St Etienne want … (The Sun)
- Arsenal ‘reach agreement’ with William Saliba to sign Saint-Etienne … (The Sun)
- Arsenal ‘reach agreement’ with William Saliba (Metro)
- Arsenal yet to reach agreement in William Saliba transfer talks … (Standard)
- Arsenal Agree Personal Terms With William Saliba (90 min)
A bit of a tangle in the Sun’s reporting there but by and large we seem to have him. So who is, I hear you cry, although not literally of course.
He’s 18, he’s French, he’s 6 feet 4 inches tall, and he is a centre back. He has played 16 games in the French League for St Etienne plus eight times in the past year for the France under 18 and under 19 teams, and was originally coached by the father of Kylian Mbappe.
And he’s going to cost us £25m according to our chum R. E. Ports who knows a thing or three. That is over half the total transfer budget gone on an 18 year old with half a season’s experience – or so we are told by these media fellas who know everything.
Moving on to Alexis, (no not that one – he’s still earning half a million pounds a minute not playing for Manchester Untidy), Fresh Arsenal tell us that Arsenal have agreed personal terms, although the Metro has us only at the level of preparing a bid.
Now of course the name is a bit of a confusion here since we have been having problems with Alexes for a while but this one is Alexis Claude-Maurice of Lorient, the friend of Guendouzi of whom things have been said before.
Get French Football allegedly say that personal terms have been agreed but Lorient keep upping the price, while Sky Sports say that a bid has been rejected and Arsenal could be outbid by Newcastle, West Ham and Brighton, as apparently we so often are, so disjointed and hopeless is everyone involved in the club.
And finally we have in our list of players we are at this very minute signing, Martinelli – a player that Football London has been going beserk about, running story after story. Here are three headlines all from 17 June…
-
Gabriel Martinelli: A look at the Brazilian who is set to be Arsenal’s first summer signing
-
Gabriel Martinelli to Arsenal: The inside story of how Edu and Francis Cagigao got their man
-
Gabriel Martinelli strengths and weaknesses and where he fits in in at Arsenal
Even the Star then chimed in with “Arsenal set to complete first summer signing after £6m agreement” covering the same story.
Others have got in on the act as well.
So there we are. The window is over before it has even begun, at least for Arsenal. Two or maybe three signings, done and dusted. And in case you don’t know about Gabriel Martinelli, according to Wiki he plays for Ituano, but has never actually played for their first team.
I enjoyed the Post, but doesn’t its headline on NewsNow come under the heading of clickbait – which really is the modus operandi of the very media papers that are so derided by blogdom? Fine line and all that.
Xero – we have been running the series exposing the fake news propagated by websites and newspapers for around ten years now, and I think most of the readers we get know exactly what we are doing. Besides the fact that Arsenal might sign all three players at once is just too far fetched to be true. But watch out for the next article in the series which reveals not only that one of the transfer stories is an absolute fake, but that one of the leading publishers knew it was a fake, but kept running it.
Incidentally the email address that you gave is coming up as not you on my system – I over rode it this time to answer your enquiry but if you write in again please can you check and put in the correct email address. If what you gave me is correct, you need to check with your email company, as it is coming up with a warning.
I think us Gooners should by now have been accustomed to the media Arsenal transfer news or rumours that are being churn out every transfer window for us to be reading them. And this has continue to happen unabated extending to this current summer transfer window despite that only a fraction of the over 100 Arsenal transfer news that are published in the media comes to fruition.
But notwithstanding, what can us do other than to be reading those media Arsenal transfer news as there are no alternative other news outlet outfits where us can be reading about Arsenal transfer news from time to time but in the print media whether the news are true or false, us can’t do otherwise. In the electronic media, they only read the news to us when it has been confirmed that Arsenal have signed or sold.
In the meantime and in this particular summer window, Arsenal transfer kitty to do incoming transfers for the club this summer is very very on the average side as has been revealed to us in the media. But the implication for those that are responsible for the incoming transfers at the club is they will not be able to flex their muscles as they will want to flex them in the transfer market this summer when it comes to sign marquee finish articles for the club.
The consequence that the very low summer transfer kitty has brought along to Arsenal this summer in the transfer market is they will be limited to the option of fishing out the untapped talented top quality players that are relatively unknown who are hidden at various club sides locally and elsewhere to tap them for signings for Arsenal and sign them for the club this summer. And start inducting into them the Arsenal way of playing in the PL immediately they are signed by way of coaching them. So that their best will be brought out next season’s campaign for Arsenal immediately the new season begun which will turnout as a massive surprise to the top 5 big rival club sides to Arsenal in the PL when the Gunners start challenging to win the PL title next season and win it that will be to the amazement of the top 5 big clubs in the PL who are looking to have access to unlimited transfer kitty this summer to do any incoming transfers that they want for themselves. With Man City in particular looking to have become obesed in transfer kitty access over the transfer windows.
But if Arsenal are eyeing a particular one marquee player for signing this summer, then of course they will have to sell the Arsenal flob Mkhitaryan and the I don’t care Arsenal Ozil this summer window to maybe any of the Chinese Super League club sides to raise money sufficiently enough that will allow them to undertake one marquee signing for Arsenal. Say, to take Gareth Bale on loan from Real Madrid.

I think Arsenal should sign the 18 year old 6ft 4 inches tall centreback William Saliba from Saint Etienne this summer who they’ve fished out. But if he has a good fast attacking pace going forward and a good fast recovering defensive pace tracking back and not rhinoceros nor prone to error making. And also has a long game lasting stamina and he is strong able to nutmeg off the opponent player. And if course able to jump very high to head the ball away or head it in as the situation demands he should do. And if Arsenal complete signing him, they should keep him at the club to play for the us alongside Mavropanos, another taller at the heart of the Arsenal defense-line next season but not loan him back to Saint Etienne after they have paid them the reported £25m transfer fee to get him. To do that will be ridiculous

GOOD DEAL!!
I almost wet my pants with happiness when i read the headline.. Our only hope is to have the owner spend on the club for once.
