The top six clubs are shedding players. Here’s the chart of who has gone

By Tony Attwood

I decided to put in this chart of players in last season’s top six clubs who are already noted as leaving, following some blog comments to the effect that the release of half a dozen players by Arsenal for the grand sum of £3.5m showed how disorganised we are in our long term planning So here is the comparative chart of the players who thus far have been officially signified as leaving their clubs thus far.

As in previous summers I’ll try and keep this up to date in terms of future departures, and when players start arriving in sufficient numbers to make it interesting, do a comparative chart for signings.  So far there are only three signings to last season’s top six  – Sepp van den Berg to Liverpool, Daniel James to Manchester United, and Kion Etete to Tottenham.

Here then are the departures.  The fees are those reported by the Guardian newspaper.  Reports elsewhere will inevitably be different.

Arsenal: six players: £3.5m

Player Gone to Fee
David Ospina Napoli £3.5m
Cohen Bramall Released Free
Stephan Lichtsteiner Released Free
Julio Pleguezuelo FC Twente Free
Danny Welbeck Released Free
Aaron Ramsey Juventus Free

Chelsea: nine players, £97.3m

Player Gone to Fee
Ola Aina Torino £8.8m
Gary Cahill Released Free
Fankaty Dabo Coventry City Free
Todd Kane Released Free
Eden Hazard Real Madrid £88.5m
Nathan Baxter Ross County Loan
Brad Collins Barnsley Free
Jay Dasilva Bristol City Unknown
Richard Nartey Burton Albion Loan

Liverpool, three players, £5m

Player Gone to Fee
Rafael Camacho Sporting CP £5m
Sheyi Ojo Rangers Loan
Adam Bogdan Released Free
Alberto Moreno Released Free
Daniel Sturridge Released Free

Manchester City, two players, no income

Player Gone to Fee
Partrick Robers Norwich City Loan
Vincent Kompany Anderlecht Free

Manchester United, four players, no income

Player Gone to Fee
Ander Herrera Released Free
James Wilson Released Free
Regan Poole Released Free
Antonio Valencia LDU Quito Free
Tottenham Hotspur, three players, one fee undisclosed.
Player Gone to Fee
Fernando Llorente Released Free
Michel Vorm Released Free
Connopr Ogilvie Gillingham Undisclosed

So we have not got rid of the most players thus far – Chelsea have done that, and in getting rid of players for nothing we are again not alone.  Only Chelsea has managed to pull in a big fee so far – which is perhaps a bit odd given that there is every chance they won’t be able to sign anyone this summer, and their owner still seems not to be paying too much attention to the club.

But there’s a long way to go as yet.
