All the players tipped to be coming to Arsenal as the window creaks to its closure

by Sir Hardly Anyone

So far 84 players have been tipped to be coming to Arsenal this summer, and with the window nearly over it looks like being a very disappointing fantasy festival from the media, who in past years have managed to get the number past the 100 mark.

Probably it was the fixation with the notion that Arsenal only had a budget of £45m which restricted the scribblers’ inventiveness and maybe some of them just got bored with the same old same old story over and over again – although to be fair, a number of the sites totally ignored the £45m story all the way through, especially when hooked into the Zaha tale.

Maybe the strident voices of Arseblog, Arsenal Supporters Trust, Black Scarf Movement, The Gooner, Le Grove, Redaction and 7am Kick Off coming together with their doom, gloom and no transfers worth having put the inventors of silly stories off, but any way around we only reached 84 players said to be coming to Arsenal.

Here are some of the latest tales and below that the full table…

“Arsenal have £55m bid rejected by RB Leipzig for Dayor Upamecano.”  That from talkSPORT  has been typical end of window headline.

Foreign commentators have also been doing their stuff to with Calciomercato pushing the notion of an offer for Juventus forward Moise Kean.

Daniele Rugani, the Juventus defender is another name that has been popping up while the media is utterly insistant that there was a genuine offer for Zaha – they are indeed still churning that over and over.  Nicolas Tagliafico also gets a few mentions.

But of course many of the names cited by bloggettas are gradually getting themselves clubs more in keeping with their abilities.   Yacine Brahimi who was tipped to be coming to Arsenal, but actually found his level at Al Rayyan in Qatar.  Did anyone really think we would be signing him.

Here’s the list of players said to be coming our way…

  1. Kos

    Good riddance

Def: A welcome relief from someone or something undesirable or unwanted.

    Sums him up perfectly.

  2. On the previous thread I expressed my disappointment at the way I felt Van Persie chose the professional choice over the human choice. Disappointing but a choice many would of made, maybe even me in the same circumstances. I’d like to believe not but you never know.

On this thread I want to express my disappointment at the way Koscielny has sadly, rather than chosen to leave with dignity has chosen to be a complete c**t.

How easy these guys find it to piss on the fans that have cheered and supported them through thick and thin, not to mention payed their not insignificant wages.

    Sad.

  3. It’s a bit uncharitable to call Koscielny a ‘complete c**t’. This is the guy who sacrificed his World Cup winning chances by allowing himself to be overplayed in an attempt to win Arsenal glory and in the process snapped his achilles tendon, was allegedly assured that he would be allowed to leave the club transfer free this transfer window, has never in the nine years of sterling service been a controversial figure and saved his local accordion factory.
I didn’t like the way he refused to travel with our US tour group and thought his agent could have dealt with this while Kos was on tour, after all that’s what he’s paid 15% for.
Maybe a bit of a Twat but never a ‘c**nt’.

  4. Good luck to Jenko!! Can’t believe after all this time, he’s finally departed!

Argh Nitram, I can’t stand the C word!! I understand your disappointment, although I don’t entirely share it. The way I see it is.. we had his best years, he’s now just about ready for the knacker’s yard.. I don’t begrudge him going home to play for one last time and to be honest, I have no more animosity left, after RVP & Sanchez departed for Manchester 😂😂

  5. @ Nitram

It is incredibly rare that I disagree with your comments but on this occasion I’d like to propose something to think about. That is that absolutely nobody outside the club and the player himself really knows what happened. Was he made promises by the club that were broken? who knows. One thing’s for sure, the media know as much about the reasons as they do about football transfers i.e. absolutely feck all. Kos may or may not be in the wrong, I don’t know. What I do know is that he was a great servant to the club and irrespective of the circumstances in which he has left, I believe he should be remembered for that rather than anything else.

  6. Nitram

You make a valid point on RvP and Kos respectively.

Sadly, players that had been going through thick and thin protected ONLY by Arsene Wenger, the embodiment of class and knighthood, decided to shit on the hand that had been feeding them. Fabregas, Adebayor, Henry, Hleb, Cole, Clichy, Gallas, RvP, Alexis, Szczesny (remember that video when he mocks his former coaches on Polish TV?)… Even Flamini who got his indulgency by rejoining Arsenal in 2013.

However, I agree to the extent that Kos had some credit. He did sacrifice a lot – his health – to play for Arsenal. From the human point of view, Kos is going to be a father and a husband one day he retires. He will have to carry his children, play with them and sometimes maybe play footie in the back of the garden with them. A wrong move on his heel and he might end up injured again, except this time it would be a bigger stress for his family.

I work on a job that is paid hundreds of times less than the one Kos works at. I used to work through pain, not because I had to, but because I felt obligated to my job to finish as many things as I could. I used to work well beyond my work time, unpaid overtime job, just to finish things so that people who rely on my work don’t lose too much time (mind you, they could live with me doing the job later than I did). That sort of dedication for the job ended when my health let me down and I couldn’t hold my little daughter when she was just 40 days old. I was lying on my bed at home, barely walking to the toilet and back, when my boss called me furiously asking why I didn’t come to work to write my report. That was the moment I decided to put family ahead of everything.

Maybe Kos had that moment as well. Mind you, I don’t defend his action – I believe the club did exactly what it should have done after Kos had refused to travel with the squad – but I offer a possible explanation of his behaviour that goes beyond football.

  7. Masterstroke

Okay, my apologies for the c word.

“This is the guy who sacrificed his World Cup winning chances by allowing himself to be overplayed in an attempt to win Arsenal glory and in the process snapped his Achilles tendon”

Not sure how true that is, but even if he did, it is Arsenal, or rather you and me and all the other supporters that pay his wages, not the French FA, that should ALWAYS come first. How is that a sacrifice?

Playing for Arsenal is his JOB, for which he gets paid very well payed, so excuse me for not finding that any great sacrifice.

“Maybe a bit of a Twat but never a ‘c*nt’.”

    Okay.

    Sue

“Argh Nitram, I can’t stand the C word!!”

    As I say, fair enough.

“I don’t begrudge him going home to play for one last time”

In the great scheme of things nor do I, but there’s ways and means. Even if he’s a bit miffed with Arsenal FC that’s not the fans fault and it’s them he’s insulting by doing what he’s done.

As I say WE payed his wages, even when he wasn’t playing. When he pulled on that shirt he threw in the dirt, it was US he was playing for, because without us, there is no Arsenal.

If he’s upset with Arsenal tell them. Disrespecting Me and the shirt I love is unacceptable, no matter what your grievance.

  8. Mikey

That’s fair enough, we cant agree on everything, and I’m not silly, I can see how people will be split on this, but one point if I may.

You say: “I’d like to propose something to think about. That is that absolutely nobody outside the club and the player himself really knows what happened. Was he made promises by the club that were broken?”

As I say, it’s us, the fans he’s insulting. No matter what his issues with the Club, I believe we deserve better.

    Josif

Again you have a point, but:

“However, I agree to the extent that Kos had some credit. He did sacrifice a lot – his health – to play for Arsenal.”

    Come on.

I had my knee mangled when I was 20 years old. I had to wait 2 years for a simple cartlidge removal. I tried to play again but it kept collapsing. I had it re assessed privately and was told 1 ligament was snapped, 1 severely ruptured and 1 damaged. This was 2 and a half years after the event.

I was told an operation had a fifty fifty chance of success. I passed on that.

I asked if I could still try to play and was told yes. I asked if it would do me any harm. I was told, you are almost certain to get arthritis anyway so it’s up to you.

I continued to try and eventually managed to hobble about at left back for a further 5 years.

I could no longer really sprint. I could no longer take dead ball kicks. BUT I WAS PLAYING.

I risked all the consequences you mentioned and more.

I’ve since had another operation and have been told I will eventually need a replacement knee.

    Why did I do it?

It wasn’t money. It wasn’t my job after all.

I did it simply for the love of playing football.

At no point did I think I was making a ‘sacrifice’.

  9. Nitram… did you see his message on Instagram? Saying his decision to leave had been discussed for months! What exactly happened for it to end this way & more importantly, will it ever come to light? Who knows…..
It is a shame, but he’s gone, that’s it, we move on. We have an exciting few days ahead, what with the window & our opener at SJP… COYG

  10. Nitram
Yeah, I suppose ‘sacrificed’ is a bit OTT, but his ongoing achilles injury was seemingly mishandled and by Wenger if we’re to believe the reporting of it, and it definitely cost him his World Cup place last year. He was supposedly only fit to play one game per week, and in that final period up to the break he was playing three times, and I would have thought he could have said ‘I can’t manage this’, but carried on to help the club (who as you justifiably say pay his wages).
Personally I wish him all the best and forgive him the recent aberrations from his good guy Image.

  11. Having read the various points of view I can see where people are coming from and I certainly agree my use of the c word was unwarranted.

The thing is I just get so annoyed when the first thing so many of our players do when they leave is slag us off.

Do they not realise it is us, the fans that supported them and paid their wages that they are, in the final analysis, insulting ?

Anyway, in hindsight I did like the guy and I do wish him well, but it was still a totally unnecessary gesture to make.

Very childish if you ask me and it leaves a very bad taste.

And good luck and thanks to all our other departures.
