Arsenal women make light of Tottenham and stay on course for Europe

By Tony Attwood

Tottenham Hotspur were beaten by Arsenal this afternoon 0-3 in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The game, which was shown on the FA Player on the internet, meant that although Arsenal stayed in fourth position.  They now need to win their game in hand in order to overtake Manchester United and enter third spot.

This is important because there are just three Champions League spots available for the women’s league.  But as you can see from the table below our goal difference is 20 goals better than Manchester United, and Everton are a further ten points behind.  Arsenal have five games to go.  Details of the remaining games are given below.

The Guardian’s summary of the game reads…

“A crushing victory for Arsenal, who were dominant throughout and could have won by more. In the end they settled for three goals from Caitlin Foord, Vivianne Miedema and Katie McCabe. Miedema’s volley, from McCabe’s corner, was quite spectacular. Spurs worked hard and never let their heads drop, but they were sadly outclassed. “

Unfortunately I was only able to to watch the second half, so don’t want to try and build a review around that although I would say that the FA commentator was just about the dullest person I have ever listened to in my entire life.

All of Arsenal’s matches for the rest of the season will be available on TV, either via the FA Player, or (in the UK) on the BBC or Sky.  There is also an audio commentary on Arsenal.com

The games are

  • Bristol City Women: 4 April, 2pm, away
  • Brighton Women: 25 April; 2pm, home
  • Everton Women: 2 May; 1pm, away
  • Aston Villa Women: 9 May 2pm, home
  • West Ham United Women: No date yet assigned, home.

On current form Arsenal can expect to win the lot and so make Europe next season.

  1. The BBC bias on show in the full time reporting with the 61st minute from Katie McCabe described as Arsenal “eventually” adding some gloss to the score. We are not talking last 5 minutes here but, oh how we struggled. Well done to the team as it is yet another win at the Pikey shopping centre converted for sports. That place looks so cheap from the M25 and even worse in the photo at the top. Can we Knock it down and send them back to decorating chickens in Middlesex?
