The myth perpetrated by the media is that Arsenal have no contingency plan for injuries and thus when an event comes along such as Gabriel Jesus’ current situation, they are left running around like headless chickens searching for a replacement.
The reality is however that it is the journalists who are headlessly looking for a fantasy tale, which is why at least 97% of their transfer rumours each window turn out to be incorrect. So on the basis that at most three per cent of these tales are true, Arsenal will be buying one or at most two players.
Here are the numbers
The number of players it is suggested are coming to Arsenal: 48 so far and the window doesn’t creak open for another 19 days.
The number of new players since last time we published: 4 which means they are running out of inventive ideas.

Mikel Arteta can’t be that worried because he hasn’t recalled Folarin Balogun. Too many have immediately ignored Eddie Nketiah ; perhaps those same people need to start trusting in Mikel’s judgement on the basis that retaining Granit Xhaka and Mo Elneny has proved to be shrewd management. On another slightly different ironic note one or two former critics of Mikel are now calling him a top , top coach . 6 months ago these same ne’erdowells were telling us that S***s held all the cards to get them Champions League football because of Conte and Arsenal were doomed to fail because of our inexperienced manager. Not many acknowledge the simple truth that everyone has to start somewhere.
