Finally part three.  How many did you get right?

Here’s what you score means…

15-19:  Did you know that beyond the internet there is a real world with real people who do real things, like talk about life, the universe and everything?  You could go out and explore it – but best first buy a pair of sun glasses.

10-14:  Do you find your job of reading all these things and then writing them out afresh in the Metro (with the suggestion that you are an expert) is leading you to wake up screaming in the night?  Yes it is a common occupational hazard,

5-9:  There really are some jolly good programmes on TV these days if you just search through the channels.  They could help to take your mind off things.

1-4: Be careful – from such small beginnings can grow weird and awful ends.  Stop now before you get dragged down.  Maybe a pet could help.  Jellyfish are quite popular this year.

Zero: Welcome to my world.

Insult of the day

  • Good Lord, what a wit-snapper are you (Merchant of Venice)

Two anniversaries

  • 7 January 1887: Woolwich Gazette reported a meeting was held to make the Dial Square club had broken away from Dial Square Cricket club and opened itself to everyone in the area, rather than just the employees of the Dial Square factory.  As a result the club had become, by this date, Royal Arsenal FC.
  • 7 January 1956: Arsenal 2 Bedford 2, FA Cup 3rd round.  Although Arsenal were slipping in form since winning the league in 1953, this was considered one of the most unimaginable shocks, although Arsenal did win the replay 2-1 after extra time.

20 Replies to “Has there ever been a January like this? The 19 transfer stories surrounding Arsenal.”

  1. Wow you must really have to scrape the Web barrel to find these stories! I’ve never even heard of half these sites and the others are well known as being full of shit!

Why even bother bring them to our attention?

    Click baiting probably.

    Oh dear.

  2. LOL

Damn I have to be careful it seems… but it is all the fault of the members of my supporters club in Belgium who have a special topic on our facebook page that is also mentioning all those rumours. But as president I can’t stay away from our own facebook page…. can I?
Or maybe our doctors in the house could offer medical tricks to not fall in the trap of the rumour mill?

Of course knowing about those rumours is one thing… believing them… that is the main worry…
And I only believe in one of them (El Nenny)

  3. Agree that there is a rediculoua amount of rubbish out there but no more than usual. Just PPC companies feeding off insecure fans and Arsenal have many

  4. Would be great to see Aubameyang playing for arsenal.Hes in great form for dortmund and would make a great addition to the team and would help us push on.We cant keep stockpiling profits.

  5. I think the stories and rumours about Arsenal would-be signings are no different from every other transfer Window.
What IS different this time is the clear indication that Arsene is determined to strengthen the team and that signings are highly likely. 😉

  6. John, he does appear to be very good but despite being born in France, he’s playing for Gabon. Gambling 40m (30m ??) on a player that could be dragged off to the ACN every 2 years in the middle of the PL season is something the big clubs have moved away from. To be with a big club the player needs to be A1 talent or very cheap and everything in between usually goes to the smaller clubs who are prepared to take that gamble.
Until he’s actually played in the PL he’s a gamble.
So I’d be surprised if Arsenal take a gamble like that.

  7. Andy
I agree that its a gamble ,but so isnt every player that transfers from one country to another. And i would of said a few years ago that a gamble at that price wasnt worth it as money was tight but with say 200m sitting in the bank its one we can well take now without having and serious repercussions. We are supposed to have one of the greatest managers in world football ,surely he can mould him from a good player to a great one.

  8. We most certainly need cover in midfield where we are light on numbers. It looks as if this Elneny is near. Looks a good player with insane amounts of energy. Won’t be enough for some as he only costs £5million

With Flamini, Arteta and Rosicky it makes sense to bring one in now and we’ll need another one in the summer.

Can’t see Dortmund parting with Aubemayang but should we get him now or in the summer we’ll have a ridiculously good array of attacking talent

That would leave a replacement for Debuchy (he’s really let the club down by asking for a move. We’ve paid him for a year while he’s been injured and he’s sulked because the guy who has replaced him has done so well he can’t be dropped)

    Things look very healthy.

Alexis is back after a midweek break and hopefully it won’t be too long before we see Jack, Welbeck and Coquelin back ready for a critical 2nd half of the season

  9. Tunnygriff
I agree with everything you posted apart from Jack and Welbeck.I doubt we will see them this season and if we do it will take them ages to get up to speed due to the ammount of time they have been out.

  10. John, 3 points;
    1) Just because you have cash doesn’t mean you need to waste/gamble with it.
    2) Read back on this site and it explains that although we have a good ‘fund’ we don’t have 200m available for transfers
    3) So assuming he’d ‘come good’ but we’d lost out on this seasons PL by a dodgy PGMO decision, however were going well next season then you’d be OK with him running off to the ACN in jan/feb when the going gets tough here and again every 2 years… (I don’t know if Gabon will go but who does).
At a sensible price (like half the mentioned 40m) he may be worth a gamble but one of the lesser teams will be prepared to pay the silly price hoping he can get them into the CL.

  11. Andy
1.We gambled 42m on ozil and 32m on sanchez and they turned out alright.Sometimes its the players in the lower price bracket that flop.do you see the transfers as a waste of money??If so what is the money for?
2.We had over 140 million in the bank feb 14 so would be realistic after only spending 10m in the summer that that value has incresed massively.
3.We can just pretend hes injured in jan and feb like a lot of our squad and treat him like a new signing in feb when he returns.
And the figure being banded about is 40M euros which is £28m which would be quite a bargain for a pleyer of his quality.

  12. John

Why shouldn’t we see Jack or Welbeck back ? We don’t know how close they are to returning. Not being in the camp we can’t really be certain where they are in terms of recovery

You could say that the rumours of Elneny, Rabiot and Aubemayang may have some truth in them if Jack and Danny are out for the season. Whatever the case it’s purely supposition

  13. Don’t think Özil was a gamble for anyone who had seen him play before. Neither was Alexis in fact.
Aubemayan has a good scoring record this season but he could be on a unlikely high over the past few months. Mind you scoring in half the matches you play in is not bad of course and would be great. But I don’t expect him to score the same numbers as he does in Germany in the first season.

  14. Sanchez and Ozil were proven Talent. They played at the top level at both domestic and international level. Aubameyang has played 1 good year and half an excellent season at a second rate level where at least half his goals have been against really weak opposition(The Bundesliga only has 2 decent teams this season).
I’m not saying he isn’t very talented but he’s not proven.
If we got him I’d cheer but it would only happen if the manager sees him as an A1 talent (and he’s more qualified to recognise that than you or me).

As I only got one right , I think I can still be saved !

And a very nice insult for ‘them’ today !

  16. It seems the ranks of the Arsenal staff have increased again. I’ve seen one report that Ljungberg has returned to help with the U-15 group.
