Good morning stat-fans and welcome to RefWatch.
Let’s have a look at Referee:
- Full name: Christopher J Foy
- Date of birth: 20 November 1962 (1962-11-20) (age 48)
- Place of birth: St. Helens, Lancashire, England
- EPL Referee Since: 2001/2002
- EPL Games to date: 176
My name is Chris Foy… and I hate my job.
Points wise we have done ok out of Chris Foy over the seasons although we have never over-performed against the handicap. The bad news is that Manchester United have performed quite well under him to. The worse news is that we are playing again on a Sunday at 14:05 (21:05 Singapore time) – or is that bad news? Given that you can throw the form book out of the window for games like these it may not be; so let’s look at the form:
Chris Foy has had 17 games for Arsenal consisting of 15 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss
Arsenal are currently in 1st in Chris Foy’s personal Points Per Game League (for teams with a minimum of 5 matches played), for matches in the English Premier, with an average of 2.71 PPG.
In Chris Foy’s personal Handicap Swing League (for teams with a minimum of 5 matches played), for matches in the English Premier, Arsenal come 7th with an average positive swing of 0.19.
Arsenal are currently in 2nd in Chris Foy’s personal Booking’s Per Match League (for teams with a minimum of 5 matches played), for matches in the English Premier, with an overall average of 0.76 BPM.
In Chris Foy’s personal Fouls Per Booking League (for teams with a minimum of 5 matches played), for matches in the English Premier, Arsenal come 4th with an overall average of 12.23 FPB.
Chris Foy has had 18 games for Manchester United consisting of 14 wins, 4 draws and 0 losses
Manchester United are currently in 2nd in Chris Foy’s personal Points Per Game League (for teams with a minimum of 5 matches played), for matches in the English Premier, with an average of 2.56 PPG.
In Chris Foy’s personal Handicap Swing League (for teams with a minimum of 5 matches played), for matches in the English Premier, Manchester United come 1st with an average positive swing of 0.81.
Manchester United are currently in 7th in Chris Foy’s personal Booking’s Per Match League (for teams with a minimum of 5 matches played), for matches in the English Premier, with an overall average of 1.22 BPM.
In Chris Foy’s personal Fouls Per Booking League (for teams with a minimum of 5 matches played), for matches in the English Premier, Manchester United come 9th with an overall average of 8.50 FPB.
The crash of Tottenham aside in Chris Foy’s figures – we are seeing the big teams begin to cluster between a swing of 0 and 1 goal – this would be about normal… a bit too normal considering his last season.
The last time we played Manchester United at home in the EPL was on the 31/01/2010 – the referee that day was Chris Foy, we lost 1-3. The Predictortron reckons we are as good as -0.724477 of a goal down on this match. Let’s hope, for our sakes, that the mug money concurs and goes firmly against us… and I believe it will.
Therefore, with the form book on the fire and 2 fingers waved at the Predictortron; I’m going to go for 3-1 to the Arsenal with Fabregas and RvP to score.
Erm… editor; the Chris Foy Vs EPL chart was supposed to be the last one – got a repeat of the ‘Vs Manu’ one instead?
He referred the FA Cup game this season and allowed Scholes to commit GBH. A weak referee who will not clamp down on late challenges. On another point is it only me who felt sorry for the team that played Chelski yesterday? Marriner was rubbish when we played Liverpool recently but yesterday he reached new depths of woefullness
Red Jessie,
I too felt very sad and sorry for Harry and his team.
3-1 to arsenal, what you been smoking.
3-0 to man u and Cesc to bid farewell.
I’m quietly confident of a Gunners victory today. Interestingly all 3 CL semi-finalist have been beaten so far this weekend.
Arsenal have had a weeks rest whilst Utd have played and travelled during the week. Tired limbs may very well play a part for Utd today.
I’m going 3-1 or 4-1 to the Arse with Cesc, RVP and Theo on the score-sheet.
Come on Gunners!!
The possibility that a calciopoli type scandal has gripped English football is a definite concern.
What frightens me even more is that if some refs were to be compromised by two or three teams, receiving sexual or monetary favours in exchange for favourable treatment on the pitch, and if these same refs were to be approached by gambling syndicates, then they would obviously be more willing to tilt matches against certain teams than others.
So what then if these gambling syndicates learn that a given ref is almost always willing to tilt a match against a team like Arsenal, but will never tilt a match against a team like Manchester United? Would the syndicates even try to tilt a match against Manchester in this instance? I wouldn’t think so, as long as they can still find matches to tilt in their favour.
I have tried to put it right Dogface. I think Tony was in a hurry before leaving for the game
Cesc is injured and will sit this one out – maybe for the better , what with his personal problems .
Hope the guys are up for it and play and slay ManUre just for the fun of it .
Up the Gunners – 3-1 for me !
Vidic gets away with another red card penalty/ sending off. Anyone surprised?
I guess that’s our 1 goal disadvantage by halftime that Dogface was talking about.
Forget the penalty.. Refs always do that against us after all.. Foy has taken to tackling us now.. I’m sick of this nonsense. Why do we have to put up with such crap and corrupt referees?
YEAAAAAAAAH
Well done boyz, I take my words back.
tHIS WAS mAN u BANG IN FORM, with all their best players playing, surely we only need tweaking
GET IIIIIIINNN!!
And I believe it’s another happy St. Totteringham’s day 😉
This really feels so good. I feel an article coming up. 🙂
YYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Finally a mature performance by the players. Hav to say, Arshavin was superb in his defending!!
the ref was diabolical. 4 penalties in four matches might have been too suspicious .
Im glad it was one of those games we def deserve to win it was a good all round performance and Chesney took a lot of pressure off the defence with his catches
@Wrenny.
Not quite St. Totteringham’s day, although the Tiny Totts would have to win all their remaining games by something like six clear goals.
Great performance today, and Spurs down to sixth, fantastic weekend for gooners.
Cracking underperformances from Rooney and Vidic there… it balanced out Foy giving them a lot in the first half.
Well done lads – good 3 points, and well done to the crowd for getting on the officials backs.
Happiness is!!
Interesting bit of info taken from the BBC site:
“Arsenal field their youngest line-up of the season. They average 23 years and 296 days today – also the youngest line-up of all clubs this Premier League season.”
@Dale
Yes not quite, there’s still a tiny mathematical chance… but come on ;D
Im not sure who I detest most Man U or chelsea.
What questions would be asked of man u if they win nothing?? would they face the same scrutiny as arsenal do?
So many if only questions
in this game was Cesc really injured?
Of course – it would have been 3-1 if Fabregas had started.
😉
How can anyone possible want a massive overhaul of this side. Surely a few tweeks. Three transfer i would like to see are Eden Hazard..blistering pace to go on the opposite side of Walcott. Edinson Carvani…a real goal machine who is good in the air possible what were missing. Jan Vertonghen a left footed center back with height who can also play at left back or defensive midfeild. Promoting players like Kyle Barthley, Henri Lansbury, Ryo Myiachi, Francis Couquelin and possible Benik Afobe should cap it off perfectly
How good was this win, really? I loved it !!!!
And I have to say (sadly and fearfuly) that Cesc was a big element (in my humble opinion) of our sub-par performances this year.
Just some food for thought.
Can’t help but notice how the media are very blasé about this result, haven’t seen or heard anyone mention how United have failed to take their chance to bag the prem or they are falling apart now, instead, ‘Arsenal have blown the title race open’.
Can anyone explain why Arsenal only get the negative reports written about them?
I want to say sumpim about ‘Arry: He IS calling for Video Replay Review. If we recall how much this would HELP us, we might try to hold our noses and make common cause with the Tinies to HELP ourselves. If we and the Scum can BOTH make the demand for video replay – especially NOW as we’ve won this match and can’t be written off as sore losers – this could start some serious momentum going that would press the swine (nothing against pigs, mind you) at EPL and the Hives of Riley. Arsene and ‘Array should have common cause now and press this demand and should have armies of real fans behind that call – Video Replay would stymie Kastle Fergus and the Hong Kong Syndicate. DOING this would do us a World (championship) of Good. Go Gunners!
p.s. ‘ere’s Arry’s call. I say we join it: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/apr/30/harry-redknapp-spurs-chelsea
@Bob
I think arry I will do anything to spend someones money Redknapp is just coming up with the excuses why Spurs have failed to get into Europe, these managers use a lot of deflecting tactics. The Breath of fresh air needs Listerine because spurs have halitosis
Arsenal only make the headlines when it is negative
Im delighted for AW he deserves a break after the crap hes been getting lately NOT least from our own supporters.
Nothing changes on the refereeing side the usual sad standards still apply. I thought when Nasri was on the field we kept running largely into culdesacs and it was better when Arshavin came on.
If Cesc was fit next week not sure who I would drop out of Wiltshire Song and Ramsey BUT I am thinking on Song as the work rate from the other 2 was really impressive they added some steel to the midfield.
lets hope for a chelsea win and amiracle the following week 🙂
😀
^^ That’s me for the next few days.
😀 😀 😀
Doesnt change a thing. Great result and great performance, however this papers over the cracks of the DISMAL defending that we have seen all season long and Wenger’s DREADFUL tactics and man management all year long. Lets see what happens in the summer before we all start getting excited. On a positive great performance from the lads and especially RAMBO! When that hit the back of the net i was soooo happy for the lad. Let fab go if that is what he wishes! We have a real star in the making here!
I wonder if Dogface was on to something about the mug money in this match. At the end of the first half it didn’t look like we’d be getting any favours, but the Foy was much fairer in the 2nd half in my opinion.
@RedGooner
I thought song was impressive he provided the cover for the defence, song is very useful for certain games but not necessary in others
I saw chelseas Run in we could still get second spot. Our target should be maximum points from our remaining games
Very pleased for Rambo, he didnt look out of place in the slightest
@Gooner80 (all): Doesn’t matter what Arry’s motives are for calling for Video Replay. Of course he wants an excuse and it’s in ‘is interest. BUT he happens to be right (even a broken clock is right twice a day). And his NEED (or excuse) for VIDEO REPLAY happens to be OUR NEED AS WELL – beyond today or this season – or we will keep going around in circles. The definition of insanity is expecting a different outcome from the same old shite way of doing something. If Arry is too much for you/us to bear, then fine. BUT the point is action and a demand for VIDEO REPLAY. And now, in the flush of this beautiful victory of ours, we can seize this moment and make a demand for this reform. Arry or not, the point is not to be addicted to winning one game, or whinging about what could have been. But to move forward with changes needed to win OUR championship. And one of those elements, dear friends, is to Demand a fair pitch and that means a Fair Re-Play. To get stuck in Arry wants it so it stinks is to fail to see our own INTEREST in having Video Replay. AND, Walter’s report and video will go a LONG way to provide evidence – analytic and visual – to make un-bent people around the league have faith. I’d love us to celebrate by doing something concrete with our joy, not just to recover from the last (several) match’s pain. Go Gunners!
@Bob
i was making fun of spurs i am a fan of technology, football is stuck in the dark ages, they could try it out in lower league games over a season and see what differences it makes but THEY REFUSE because they want us to balme the refs and put it down to Human error, football has changed very little, I admire your chants for reform but I fear your efforts are futile, maybe when new Fifa officials are in charge may be.
I even thought of the idea of taking 5 mins off the halftime break to allow for decisions as the players would get a rest when video replays were taking place so they couldnt use the excuse of how much time it would take. but they wont even trial technology, the perfect cover is blaming it on human error.
Excuse me, all this crap about Redknapp MAKING EXCUSES is bollocks. He stated, quite correctly, that neither goal which Chelsea scored was a goal. He stated, quite correctly, that this could cost Spurs £30m in lost ECL revenue. He stated, correctly or otherwise, but in the only way he can to remain in his profession, that the referees and linesmen don’t deliberately make mistakes. Because he can’t prove it without phone tapping/peeping tom listening evidence, even if it were true.
Do stop this rubbish about him making excuses. He stated patent truths yesterday.
And if you’d listened to him after other matches he has also said, quite correctly, that Spurs have no divine right to win any football match and that qualifying for ECL this season will be harder than last season, for the correct reason that Man City spent squillions in the summer and their team is now gelling.
None of what I have said makes me a Spurs supporter. And you don’t need to make pathetic misrepresentations of the Spurs manager to be an Arsenal fan.
It really is pathetic needing to lam into the man just because he’s the Spurs manager. It’s why Arsenal haven’t won anything for six years. Bleating about unfairness and trashing decent people who work for other clubs.
Today was a game where the team took responsibility, the fans got right behind the team at the stadium and the Man Utd players were given a right run around.
Now I don’t hear Mr Dalglish trashing Everton, Man Utd or Arsenal for the sake of it. And it’s noticeable how much his team are improving under his management. So there’s no need for Arsenal fans to do that either.
Bloggers at this site could do with moving up a few levels. They might find that the team would do likewise…….
@Rhyss,
Indeed, Arry IS right on this one. (We agree on something.) And he was done wrong by all and any accounts by the Refs’s calls. AND on the heels of that he issues a call for Technology/Video Replay. MORONO, a few days ago, named 4 UEFA refs – yes, by name, as being BENT. So, whether or not the refs in your view are bent, you do seem at least to agree (by implication) that we do (as Arry says) need Video Replay. Yes? Is this not a demand worth mounting, spreading, enlisting folk league-wide in pressing on the Powers?
Rhys have you heard of a thing called humour and banter, not every comment is supposed to be serious and literal, but you seem to only see things the way you see them JEEZ, lighten up, I couldnt care less if spurs were robbed Arsenal have the same injustice
when I mention spurs as being a “Breath of fresh air” and needing Listerine because spurs have halitosis how can you think this is anything but banter
Lighten up Mr Grumpy
Further, re today’s victory, let’s think of the “remote” possibility that Foy would have either cost us the match by going blind on Vidic’s handball and/or giving a penalty to Clichy’s clip on Owen, and that either would have cost us this match. Wouldn’t a lot of us felt gutted enough to consider a demand for video replay? Aren’t the FREQUENT bad calls – by conspiracy or by accident, choose your poison – not enough to stir the ,mass demand, victory or defeat, for this and, of course, for future seasons? Why not, then?
my impression of Foy, was that he gave every doubtful decision Man Utds way today, felt Songs Booking was harsh, and that Rooney really should have been told to go away, he was doing a Shearer andd trying to influence every decision.
All my mates in the pub afterwards thought Foy was poor and favoured Man Utd. is that the way it appeared on TV or was it just the impression from the upper tier,
Great game today but partly spoilt by three dreadful officials. I have posted on here before that there is a crises in oficiating in the EPL. Foy was awful. His lack of fitness and mobility clearly illustrtaed in the firts half when he became involved in play three times. I pay a lot of money to attend games. I expect a higher standard of officiating. Add today’s poor officials to some of the others in the EPL this week end – there is a problem. Actually today I thought Rooney and nani did more refereeing than Foy Boy!
I think the team should have the belief that they can beat the top teams,victories like these and a maturing team can only aid our cause. if we can work on our weaknesses and keep improving I think our future may look brighter then the doom and gloom picture painted by many
Great win-improved performances all round especially Song and our full backs (except for Clichy’s clip on Owen)-which looked for all the world like he’d conceded a penalty. We have proved we can beat their strongest side-with a side that wasn’t our strongest 11-even with the help of the ref.
OK they were a bit below par having played in midweek-but they were over confident and were lucky it was only 1-0 and that Vidic will be playing next week. Echo concern about the standard of officiating-how did the lino miss the handball-let alone the ref? Yet another red card they should have had and didn’t.
He, He he! Will Sp*rs be in Europe next season?
Great performance song needs to play like that more often giving freedom to more attacking mfs. Good to hear the fans chanting we hers name this will have restored confidence. We have had our ups and downs this season but we have also beaten 3 of the top 4 rated going, did city away as well and our team is only 23!
some changes needed but not too many.
And yes the officials were incredibly poor today foy was even tackling our players !
Chelsea barca utd this year only one conclusion wenger out!!!!! After all it is easy for managers who have lost the plot to beat that lot
And we beat 12 today
Just watched the press conference after the match.. Some reporter actually asked Arsene something about rumours of him being sacked and has he made his plans for next season.. Arsene Wenger didn’t understand the question and the Press Officer stepped in to say next question please.. I mean what.. Seriously? He has to face such rubbish after beating ManU. It’s getting stupid now.
Not convinced that little Owen’s flop in the box was a penalty but, after seeing it on MOTD I am convinced that he was offside anyway. Oh and Foy was alarmingly bad today- again.
It is getting stupid shard but I guess the media are a bit upset we beat one of their favourites today and their other team of choice, you know the breath of fresh air boys will now not be playing in the champions league next year. Hey ho……..
Yes that is stupid I wish AW would do a fergie and get his assistant to speak to the media. How comes it is ok when fergie makes excuses.
A Journo on the sunday supplement billed the game today as the dress rehearsal for the champions lge final, Well Barca the most loved team in the world who cant do much wrong will have a ref on their side.
I think Fergie got the tactics wrong, or more correctly speaking Aw got his tactics right, for large periods: Rooney, Nani, Hernadez were missing, I think chris Foy touched the ball more, but Aw didnt anticipate a tactic for marking the ref, Maybe he should be fired ( and this is a joke for people that take everything seriously and dont understand that)
Fired, some say wenger should be hung drawn and quartered then forced to watch Stoke play.
Wenger out! You just know it makes sense the media and some blogs tell us so
@Mandy
Good you pointed out that we’ve actually beaten the best opposition we’ve faced this season at least once each. For those keeping the faith, we can see the improvement. When last did we beat manure, chel$ki, barca, man sh!tty, all in one season?
To me, it looks like the issues are mostly psychological. These kids need to believe in every game they enter that they can win it, but without feeling like it’s a done deal and becoming complacent.
I believe we should give some of the hungry youngsters a chance next year, like Frimpong, Lansbury, and maybe Bartley, although I haven’t seen him play yet. Amazing how Ramsey stepped up in Cesc’s absence. He was hungry for it, something which seems to be fading in Cesc of late.
@Adam regarding offsides and Owen’s penalty shout – Berbatov was definitely offside and was impeding Koscielny so the ball could go through to Owen.
I wonder if the linesman called offside and then Foy played advantage since the ball fell to Chesney.
@Ryh’s
Rhy’s your defence of Twitchy Redknap will fallon deaf ears around here.
For years now Arsen Wenger has appealed for goal line technology and Walter MadDog and Tony have numerously shown a series of bad decisions against Arsenal football club from Ref’s in their reports.
Only each time for you suggest the blame lies else where as in the newcastle game it was nothing to do with the Ref rather more our defencive frailties were to blame.
Now you expect us to really care when Sp*rs are hard done by and yes at least we have the balls to admit they were hard done by unlike you in many of our previous instances.
Do yourself a favour put on your sp*rs jersey and jog on to the lane.
“And Van Persie said of the Vidic incident: “A clear penalty and in my opinion a straight red.”
Asked what the referee had said to him, he replied: “At first nothing because he wasn’t sure, but I asked him again just after half-time and he said it wasn’t a penalty but I’m sure if he sees it again then he will agree with me.”

A much needed and deserved victory against the old enemy.
SAF very nearly outfoxed Wenger by relying on his tried and tested 4-5-2 system, deploying Chris Foy as a deep lying midfielder. Foy proved very effective in the first half as he intercepted more passes than both Anderson and Carrick put together.
Although Mr Foy showed a willing attitude to the cause throughout, I doubt his efforts will have pleased Fergy as much as his No1 playmaker and secret weapon Mr Webb.
Question is, will Mr Webb be summoned to perform against Chelski in next weekends crunch game?
@Tasos
Yes foy was their most creative player he caused us the most problems.
Rooney really is a vile piece of work, arsenal run rings around them all except Foy got to be their stand out performer
I wonder if that was Barca playing man u and they put in the same performance as we did I wonder how much plaudits they would have got, but arsenal hardly get a mention, we fielded the youngest team against the league leaders bang in form and played them off the park, man u looked impotent, and when the show was on the other foot they couldn’t break us down.
on a side note Theo has got to be one of the best crossers arsenal have, I have been impressed with him
sorry should be shoe on the other foot lol
Foy was immense for utd, though must admit I thought agent carrick played a blinder for us. Have not seen the ref appointments but Webb will certainly be called upon if needed.
Maybe Utd beating chelsea might help us, because chelsea have everton last day of season we might sneak back into second spot, a runners up medal might be a small consolation
to all man u fans complaining about the pk. First of all before that vidic should have gotten a red for deliberate handball, second u they played like shit, third for the pk berbatov was offside even thought not touching the ball he got involved allowing the ball to reach owen soooooo UP URS!!!!!! ktbffh
