The first half was as can be expected from refs in the EPL by now. He missed an early easy yellow when Holt from Norwich stopped Essou-Ekoto with an arm in his face. On the other hand he also let go a late tackle from Van Der Vaart. I feared for the ref at that time and a low first half score was the result.

But what a second half!! Amazing really but I must say that the players did play the game in the right spirit. But still he got almost all his calls correct bar one in this half. So a very high score for the ref.

If he just would have been a bit more focussed in the early stages of the game he could have set a new Untold ref review record. But an encouraging performance from the youngest ref in the EPL overall.

  1. @ Walter and ref reviewers, can you also include the FA Cup games in this series ?
My interest has increased because of the good referring last night (except the Dunne sending off) and the penalties which I am sure we wouldn’t have got in the premier league.

  2. Arun,
Before the games we had decided to focus on the PL games only. Last season one of my conclusions was that the refs in the cup games were from a different level (a far higher level).

My thought is that the refs don’t get “instructions” in the Fa cup for some reason. So they can do their job without having second thoughts. I remember Dowd being good for us be giving us a justified penalty in the closing stages when we were losing a game.

As we are running a bit behind with all the fixtures at Christmas we decided to skip the cup games. But as it is on Arsenal player I still could review it later on.

But the question is in my head ever since half way the second half: would he have given them if it was a EPL game???

  3. @Walter:

Good question there at the end.

    @Reviewer 04:

Nice write up. That second half score blew me away Unexpected by now 🙂

  4. @Walter:

That’s a very good point. Clearly, it is possible to do much better than we’re seeing on average in most EPL games.

  5. Hullo Walter and friends at Untold! Has anybody else got a blank space where the ref review should be? I can only read the top and bottom comments. Help!

  6. Well Pat, I see the whole thing both in IE and if Firefox. Are U using another browser?

  7. @Walter

I do like this new format. Also, I am using Firefox and the review is fine in total, no gaps.

  8. @Walter:

I just checked in Internet Explorer and I’m having the same problem as Pat. Where the chart should be, I just have a little box on the left with a red x in it. No problems in Firefox, though.

  9. I have been watching the games in Goa(most live)but I was seriously thinking of going back to UK because the 3 before this match were losses. I could not bear the sorry state at half time.
However, the second half really brought back faith. The ‘Keep the Faith’ banner really had meaning.

The referee was unpredictable and did allow some cards so as to keep the game game competitive (against all Laws of the Game but within all laws of TV!!!).

@Anne The red x only means that the picture has not rendered and could be due to many little things including timing. It might render if you refresh the page.

I am so happy that we won and with sufficient quality football apart from finishing.

  10. @Menace:

I know what the red x means, just not the technical term for it 🙂

I did try refreshing the page several times, and just tried to pull it up again in IE for good measure (just refreshed it another few times as well), but am still having the same issue.

Since Pat was experiencing the same thing, I thought it was worth mentioning, although, like I said, I’m actually having no problem reading the page in Firefox. Thanks for the help, though.

  11. To add to the not seeing the table I just opened it at another computer and I also don’t see the table.

So could it have something to do with the version of IE one is using? Because I use a different version of IE at home and at work.

In firefox it is working on the same computer and at home…

oh the joy of computers, software….

And this on the day that we are close to entering a new style and presentations of the ref reviews….

    What’s up Dog? 😉

  12. @Walter – the table is embedded as a Base64 encoded image rather that HTML i.e. cut-n-paste error – I can adjust this if you like and flip to the new format?
