The FA Cup Final. The clubs’ records for April & May (remarkably similar!) and the Arsenal team

By Bulldog Drummond

We all know Chelsea are the all-conquering heroes of the Best League In The World (TM) so let’s just check their results for April and May…

01 Apr 2017 Chelsea v Crystal Palace L 1-2 Premier League
05 Apr 2017 Chelsea v Manchester City W 2-1 Premier League
08 Apr 2017 AFC Bournemouth v Chelsea W 1-3 Premier League
16 Apr 2017 Manchester United v Chelsea L 2-0 Premier League
22 Apr 2017 Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur W 4-2 FA Cup
25 Apr 2017 Chelsea v Southampton W 4-2 Premier League
30 Apr 2017 Everton v Chelsea W 0-3 Premier League
08 May 2017 Chelsea v Middlesbrough W 3-0 Premier League
12 May 2017 West Bromwich Albion v Chelsea W 0-1 Premier League
15 May 2017 Chelsea v Watford W 4-3 Premier League
21 May 2017 Chelsea v Sunderland W 5-1 Premier League

A couple of defeats but otherwise wins.  Nine wins in fact.  14 goals against in 11 games.

Arsenal are of course pathetic, useless, awful, managed by a moron, and torn apart from raging fans who will stop at nothing to get on the news.  How have they done over the same period…

02 Apr 2017 Arsenal v Manchester City D 2-2 Premier League
05 Apr 2017 Arsenal v West Ham United W 3-0 Premier League
10 Apr 2017 Crystal Palace v Arsenal L 3-0 Premier League
17 Apr 2017 Middlesbrough v Arsenal W 1-2 Premier League
23 Apr 2017 Arsenal v Manchester City W 2-1 FA Cup
26 Apr 2017 Arsenal v Leicester City W 1-0 Premier League
30 Apr 2017 Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal L 2-0 Premier League
07 May 2017 Arsenal v Manchester United W 2-0 Premier League
10 May 2017 Southampton v Arsenal W 0-2 Premier League
13 May 2017 Stoke City v Arsenal W 1-4 Premier League
16 May 2017 Arsenal v Sunderland W 2-0 Premier League
21 May 2017 Arsenal v Everton W 3-1 Premier League

Two defeats just like Chelsea, but also a draw.   Arsenal clearly the inferior team.  Chelsea 14 goals against, Arsenal 13.  Hmmm.

So do we know anything of the team?

Well according to the media,  Petr Cech has been dropped by Arsène Wenger and David Ospina will play.  Apparently “Cech is devastated by the decision”.   So that creates space for Sczcsczsczcscyny to return.  (OK we had the debate about my misspelling of his name being racist before he packed his bags for Italy, let’s not do it again).

And so out of nothing we have yet another ARSENAL CRISIS and MANAGEMENT DISASTER.   But then it wouldn’t be an Arsenal match if that were not the case.

According to the all-seeing media Mr Wenger had said definitively that he would start with Cech over Ospina, and stressed that Cech  had started in the semi-final win over Manchester City last month. But what he actually said was, “Will Cech play against Chelsea? It is possible.”

Cue endless reports of “dithering”.

Apparently Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will play as wing back in the now standard 3-4-2-1 formation with Hector Bellerín on the other side.   No news as yet on Gibbs nor come to that on Shkodran Mustafi, who suffered a concussion in the game against Sunderland.

We know that the other two prime centre-backs – Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel Paulista – are out so it really does look as if Per Mertesacker will get a game even though he said in an interview he had “never played in a back three”. He said in the press conference, “When I was young, I started in a back four and that was my position from then on for the last 15 years. Everyone starts from zero with that new system.

“Am I able to play for 90 minutes? I cannot tell you. I haven’t played this year. But I have done this for 15 years, so I expect myself to be absolutely ready, no matter what comes. I am going to go for it. I owe it to this team and this club. I want to make sure I will be ready and my mind-set is 120 minutes, plus penalties.”

Chelsea have got to the Cup final by beating the might Peterborough, the mighty Brentford and the mighty Wolverhampton, although all I seem to read about is the easy journey Arsenal have had.

So to the team.  Maybe….

Ooooooooospina

Holding Mertesacker Monreal

Bellerin                                     The Ox

Ramsey    Xhaka

Alexis Ozil

Welbeck

The beach at Wembley is pretty rubbish, but here are those poor souls who will be there…  Maybe.

Cech, Coquelin, Elneny, Walcott, Iwobi, Giroud, Mustafi.

And that by and large is it.  Another season done.   Arsenal have friends in topsy turvy land (ok Australia) who they want to play, and then we have the return of the Emirates Cup and we do it all over again.  I believe Untold will be publishing next season’s headlines long before the season starts to help those hard pressed journalists find things to say.   All part of the service.

But for now, it is once again our third Cup Final in four seasons.  For those of us not seduced by the “not a trophy” stuff, it is a source of some pride.  For everyone else, well, you can always go the pub.

  1. If we don’t lose today with Walter at Wembley, then maybe we should start thinking of getting him all the tickets for next season…we will go unbeaten I can bet.

  2. Thanks Bulldog.

I will disagree with Mustafi on the Beach. If he isn’t well enough to start after a concussion, he is not well enough to be a potential substitute.

Who replaces him? Debuchy? Bielik? Perez?

  3. Have heard some saying cech is injured, even if true, those with an agenda won’t acknowledge that. Much as I rate cech and Ospina, should it go to pens, think I would take the Colombian!
Still think there is a decent chance The Man will walk after today, have believed this for a while, and no recent words from him have really changed that, I think that lack of respect stuff may have been aimed at some fans, certainly some media, but I don’t doubt there are others as well. so will cherish this game….you just never know.

  4. Wish the team the best of luck today and I hope for a win. Come on Arsenal.

  5. Wenger is a man of principle and while we might not always agree with his decisions they are his to make. This will either be another humbling from a Chelski team who were worthy winner son the PL (much as it pains me to say so) or a memorable victory by a team that have been shorn of its best defensive talents. If we win then I think it will be the best of Wenger’s FA cup wins and will be a new and deserved record for him. If we lose then it’s been a cr*p season rounded off with a depressingly anticipated defeat.
Finishing with is probably not the disaster some want it to be seen as as, and winning the FA cup won’t be saving grace others might cite it as. Frankly I don’t care how the AAA or the press view Arsenal at the moment, I just want us to stick it up the lot of ’em.
    Come on you Gunners!

  7. Cannot help wondering if Wengers words about respect were also aimed at…some…of the board….he made clear his respect for Stan K recently, didn’t say much about the rest. If so, hope Stan can bang their heads together so the club moves in

  8. That nasty little pratt Andy Jacobs said on Talksport that our two recent FA cup triumphs didn’t count as trophies as they were only against Hull and Villa.
So let’s win today and ram those words up his backside.

  9. It’s won’t be a gainsaying to say Arsenal will beat Chelsea this evening at Wembley and lift the FA Cup again as we the Arsenal fans believe that the Gunners will edge out Chelsea this evening in this FA Cup final match.

We all know how Chelsea play their game and how they operate in games. Moses, Alonso, Hazards and Willian will be running in the game audaciously to Arsenal area. And Gary Cahill and David Luis will come out individually into the Gunners box to attack the set pieces. While Cesc Fabregas will try to make one of his those audacious long range pass to feed the brute called Costa or Batshuaye to pounce on Ospina. And Matic and Cante will try to Defuse the Gunners assault from the midfield area. But instead, they are the ones that will get Defused by the midfield base Gunners. But for certainty, the Gunners will block and defuse the Blues in all their attempts to score to win this Cup final match. Rather, the Gunners are the ones who are going to score twice against the Blues to no reply in the match.

  10. If Cech is injured, Mandy, why is he on the bench. GK isn’t a position where match fitness is an issue.

  11. Saw Alex Scott on the BBC build up show. She’s really very good at the pundit role and it would add some balance to MOTD if she did a few of them. Lampard’s pretty good too, so there may be some changes due.
Only a few minutes to kick off now”

  12. Off topic: congratulations to Brendan Rodgers and Celtic who won all the domestic competition without a lost. Wow.

I’m guessing, Ospina playing could be a signal that he might be leaving in the summer and AW giving him his last match.

    Come on Arsenal.

  13. Just not taking any chances with Cech and Chel$. We do not want any embarrassing moments.

  14. What’s up with all the goalkeeper stuff? Cech was the league keeper, Ospina was the FA Cup keeper, and Martinez was the League Cup keeper. And there was some pecking order on who was goal keeper substitute on the bench, and what happens in light of injuries.

  15. If you are stuck for following the game then you could try BBC world Service which you can get on line has full com
    onentry

  16. I thought I seen Walter in a picture holding a bratwurst. Pity no Untold banner at Wembley.

    COYG!

  17. How to go Alexis! (Wait for LiveScore to say who assisted. Wait some more. More waiting.) It seems nobody assisted.

    COYG!

  18. Well done Sanchez and Anthony Taylor, although there are claims of handball by Sanchez

  19. Hmmm, 3 minutes of time, and no commentary. Must either be a boring game, or Arsenal are doing well.

    COYG!

  20. Are we good or are they bad ?

From what I see anyway we look better
Except we are missing opportunities….hope thy do not come back to haunt us…

  21. As of the 20 minute mark, Arsenal have 2 shots on net and 3 off target (to 0 and 1 by Chelsea), 3 corners, 1 goal kick (to Chelsea’s 3 goal kicks). And according to Taylor, the only dirty team fouling is Arsenal, with 4 fouls and 1 yellow card.

    Possession so far
    _5 81
    10 70
    15 73
    20 71

    COYG!

  22. Gord
Your commentary is missing a great Arsenal performance. One goal, one hit post, one cleared off the line, one just over the bar, and just one shot on target by Chelsea

  23. Well I think we are seeing a nice game, no pauses, Gooners doing what they know they can do
And we are intercepting, tackling, recovering balls like we’ve not seen often – at least it seems to me.

As for the blues, well they look like they got them…..but they are always dangerous. Can’t let our guard donw one second with those snakes

  24. While I was playing typist, Chris mentioned action. Apparently Welbeck and Ramsey hit the post with headers.

    COYG!

  25. It would seem that one of my header onto post is incorrect.

At 28/29 minutes or so, something happened and Ospina was in need of treatment. No idea what happened. Play back in action in not too long.

    COYG!

  26. why in the world are we not able to play with such commitment and relentless harrasing all season ? or at least a few more games ?!?!

  27. Defence is brilliant…a real red and white wall.
Wonder how the season would have played with this formation all along ?!?

  28. Energy is finite?

    More possession numbers
    25 62
    30 59
    35 59

Fouls are now 5 against Arsenal to 3 against Chelsea.

Chelsea is growing into game, and/or Taylor is growing into game.

    COYG!

  29. At 40 minutes, possession is again 59%. We n ow have 4 shots off target to 2 form Chelsea. We are 5 corners to their 1. Fouls almost even at 6 to 5.

Some note that Ospina dropped a ball, and the next line is Ramsey with the clearance. I wonder what happened?

    COYG!

  30. Mesut making defensive recovery tackles….am I dreaming ?!?!
We need that second goal right now. Break the snake’s neck !

  31. Please Ox stop trying to out dribble your opponent, let’s stick to basic.

  32. At 45 minutes, we were only at 56% possession. Eden Hazard seemed to need a fair amount of treatment before that. The 4th official indicated 2 minutes of extra time, which is ended at 3 minutes of which we again had 56% possession.

    COYG!

  33. Its good to say that we seem to want it. 🙂

We need another though before they score, at extra time we will be tired if we dont close it out before then.

  34. Defence needs to be able to make a second half as good as the first one.
And going after the ball deep into Chelsea territory to begin with, and not letting one ball go unchallenged really is making Chelsea stutter.

  35. We could have been at least 3-0 up, come on Arsenal let’s keep this up. Top class from the team so far. Chelsea will come out firing so let’s not be complacent please. Come on Arsenal only another 45 minutes to go.

  36. Need to finish chances and we’ll win this one easily, but hopefully there’s no talk of an anti-Arsenal bias after this one

  37. Taylor needs to make up for the mistake of allowing Arsenal’s perfectly good goal.
    Or Riley will take action.

  38. Various muppets considering the Sanchez goal. Graham Poll being one of the muppets.

One particular theory is that the ball deflected off a knee, onto a hand, and then somewhere and eventually into the net.

Daily Mail has a nice picture of Costa’s elbow very close to an Arsenal head. Accidentally of course.

    Second half underway.

    COYG!

  39. to all these pundits sa<ying Per is worth zilch…he's having a great game.amazng when you think this is his first this season and he never played in 3-4-3

  40. So far Taylor is ok…surprising….then again, rule says you get only one FA cup final in your career if I heard right, so maybe he wants this one to be patchless ?

  41. Knobby…..come on! It wasn’t a “perfectly good goal”. Ramsey was in an offside position, made an initial play for the ball before pulling away at the last moment. He clearly affected Courtois’ decision making and movement. So an obvious interference in play. If that goal had been allowed against Arsenal, the usual suspects on here would be howling about a conspiracy. You can’t have it both ways.

  42. When Ramsey moved to the ball, the only player affected was Sanchez.. unlike when a goalkeeper is affected when a shot is taken.

  43. Might as well continue to practice my typing skills. Possession
    50 53
    55 52
    60 50

Referee booked Holding (making it 2-0 on the yellows) at 53 minutes. Said to be a dive by Costa, I have no idea. At 57 minutes, Taylor starts booking Chelsea players (another at 59 minutes), to even things at 2-2.

Most of the stats table is even (corners 6-3, and treatments 1-3).

    COYG!

  44. Game is not over.
    These are snakes….
We need to get this second goal more than ever

  45. Will wonders never cease. Moses (Chelsea) gets a second yellow (for diving, in the penalty box), and a quick trip to the showers.

Possession at 65 minutes was back to 52% for Arsenal.

    COYG!

  46. I’d say we really dominated the first 20 or so minutes and the last part of the half was more equal. Despite this equality Chelsea have had virtually no real chances. We’ve had a couple of obvious breaks stopped by a foul and all the Chelsea player gets is a talking to.

  47. More possession
    70 52
    75 54

Some player was lying on the pitch, but LiveScore didn’t say who. Just a short break anyway.

    COYG!

  48. clearest foul on ramsey…
    noting given
    goal
    nice job shit face ref

  49. Bah, horsefeathers! Costa evens up the goals.

Come on Arsenal, we need a quick goal (or two) to get back in the lead.

    COYG!

  50. Looks like we’re going to defend the lead for these last few minutes with coquelin on, and he gets a card too

  51. Taylor must have gotten some phone call…he’s back to booking endlessly

  52. Continuing the possession stuff
    80 53
    85 53

Dumb yellow for Francis, kicking the ball away. He had just got on the field (sub for Ox). A couple of minutes before, Xhaka pulled Willian, which might have been a more reasonable card? Maybe?

    COYG!

  53. LiveScore had said he kicked it away, I’m just reading and typing.

The 90 minute possession number is 53.

I gather Mesut missed a good chance.

    COYG!

  54. Can’t believe that there are people on here moaning incessantly about the ref. Great call to send Moses off. Wrong call to overturn the linesman’s decision for the opening goal.

  55. Sute hoe Alexis has not left the field for AFC for the last time.
He is Man of the Year

  56. The last possession number was 52. As the referee blew his whistle.

    Congratulations Arsenal!

    Walter, you did it again!

  57. YES!!! Jesus Christ, those last 10 minutes or so were absolute torture! Brilliant, brilliant performance. What a great game!

  58. Great all round team performance. Best game of our season, records broken and Chelsea don’t get the double

  59. Quoting the Metro :

Alexis Sanchez fired Arsenal ahead after just three minutes and 49 seconds, scoring the Gunners’ fastest ever FA Cup final goal, but it could’ve been easily ruled out due to Aaron Ramsey’s involvement in the strike.

So the storyline will be : AFC stole their win

    Total disregard to football rules.

  60. That would be Ramsey’s second FA Cup winning goal, no? What would the record be?

  61. ……and considering Mertesacker had not played all season he was magnificent

  62. still quoting the metro

Incredibly, Chelsea found themselves in front with just 15 minutes to go after a nice chest and volley from Costa saw the ball beat David Ospina but Arsenal were soon back in front after some fine work from substitute Giroud and some equally poor defending from Chelsea.

    In FRONT ?!?! with a 1-1 score

What is that ? fake truth ?

  63. Fabulous team performance… could have been more goals for us… but I’m not complaining.

  64. I don’t think there was one Arsenal player that didn’t play their absolute heart out this game. An inspired performance and a particular shout-out to Mert and Monreal. A great win and a great way to end the season. Shame, that most the compliments from the “expert” pundits are all back-handed ones, but hey, can’t have everything!

  65. They had maybe 3? chances all game? We hit the post 3 times; we probably had 10? chances.

  66. The papers tomorrow…Seeing as our players are crap…maybe our tactics and motivation were good?…Nah, that would give credit to our manager…the ref gave it to us.

    13 times.

  67. But The FA Cup is not a trophy.

And Santi Cazorla is still injured.

    🙂

😈 Mike Riley, I hope you choke on your dinner.

  68. Well looking back the past 10 years, we seem to save our season on the last day of the season, be it qualifying for CL or winning the FA cup….

  69. Some people need to cheer up on this most wonderful of days. Nothing seems good enough for them does it?

  70. Reading all the negativity, I’d say that if we win the PL or EL, some aaa will ask for a law to get AW out of the country….

  71. Well done to the team and manager!!

Written of by the media plonkers, part of the fanbase, esp the aaaa, and with other parts of the fanbase having doubts – the team responded magnificently!!

A brilliant performance – and always good to beat the cheating diving thugs.

A think a very large single malt for me tonight!!

  72. Very very happy! So great to see the manager and the team celebrating on the pitch. Gabriel hobbled on with a great grin on his face to hug everybody. Ospina and Cech gave each other a huge bear hug. Well done the lads, well done! Looking forward to another parade …..

  73. Wow. We did it. Three fa cups in four years. Arsenal haters…didn’t see that coming. Am so happy. Taking my wife out…nice times ahead.
To all Gunners, grab yourself some drinks…the bill is on me.

  74. Well done to BFG for showing those idiotic pundits who think Chelsea will rip him to shred.

  75. It’s interesting to look at the reports on the internet, the negativity is pretty much an UK and a a US thing.
This is not extensive study, rather a quick read of the reports….

    Telling….

And, well, we’ve got a gap again…as AFC have won more trophies than the Spurs this year again…

  76. We toyed with Chelsea all match long and when they thought they had hope, we ‘Girmsey’ them off….LOL

You know Arsenal is in crisis because top 4 suddenly becomes important and we didn’t get it for the first time in 20 years.

Who’s scored winning goals in 2 FA cup finals? =Ramsey
Who’s the most successful FA cup manager = Arsene Wenger
Which team has won the most FA cup in history? =Arsenal

Season ticket for Walter next season!

Congratulations to the boys, manager and all of us supporting the team even in ‘crisis’.

    COYG

  77. Same old peon changing spots midstream. Taylor was doing it all game. He is a trained cheat. Problem is there is s greater good that cared for Arsenal.

  78. Early media reports are very, very positive. All think it was our best performance of the season and The Mail even saying we were Barcelona like. Graham Poll saying that the first goal was correctly given, and that the linesman originally made a mistake in flagging it offside and then corrected his call.
So all you people hoping for a media backlash keep looking.

  79. I wouldn’t say the press split is UK/USA, it looks more like UK/world. Just about any UK-ish source, has to put up about as many Arsenal negatives as positives. Wales Online is an exception, and they are proud of Aaron. Daily Mail shows a “Wenger In” sign?

One report, says Mertesacker deflected the Costa shot which got past Oooooooospina. Will they call it an og?

Nice writeup about Cech congratulating Ooooooospina after the game.

  80. It is truly joyous when despite the slope we make the game look easy. Wenger got his team right & Taylor struggled to find room. The crisp passing & no contact process did Chelsea & Taylor. If we had put away our chances even the media & pundits would be eating humble pie.

I just hope Wenger asks the media ‘When are you guys getting sacked for being so bigotted & disrespectful to such an educated man like me’. I’m French a record breaker, a good tactician, multilingual but most of all the most dedicated manager Arsenal ever had.

  81. To clarify. I’ve always had a low opinion of Taylor, but thought he wasn’t so bad today. Gave two correct significant decisions our way (first goal & sending off) and one wrong against (Holding’s yellow card). It was a clean game so pretty easy to referee.

  82. Amazing performance by the lads. Arsenal could have been out of sight in the first half itself. They did try to come at us in second half but full credit to team for never letting Chelsea dominate proceedings, and what a way to reply to their goal.
Referee was considerably better, surprised the goal and red card when in our favor in such a crucial match, but both were correct decisions.
Per didn’t look like he was starting his first game in over a year, one word flawless.

Congratulations to Players, Manager and Backroom staff.

  83. It was noticeable that we were especially wary of going to ground on a tackle inside our box.

  84. What a brilliant performance, the WOBs should hang their heads in shame for their pathetic support for the team.Wenger was right when he called the Wenger out rabble a disgrace to our great club..

  85. I don’t think M. Wenger will ever get the credit he deserves for his leadership. Per slotting right into the defence like he’s played there all season – not even believing he’ll make it to 90 minutes, The Ox having no problem at his 7th different position this season, Holding having a great match, ospina getting what he was promised despite the pressure to play Cech (who by all means was not undeserving this season) etc.

Say what you want, he recruits guys with brains and footballing brains, and in this final match, the ‘swiss army knife’ logic he’s given his players was showing.

Interestingly, this season we beat Chelsea twice…..

    Take that aaa

  86. To all Untolders – with Walter in the house and me wearing my lucky shirt – NEVER IN DOUBT!!!!’

  87. Great win, congratulations to Wenger, the team, the staff and all the true supporters Finished a difficult season on a high.

    Wenger #respect

  88. An obvious but interesting observation; 2014 was the year we finally started to compete again in the market – not selling our best players, signing new kit deal, etc..

And we’ve won 3 FA cups in 4 seasons since – basically that’s a trophy every year bar one season only. Surely that’s not the sign of a club in a downward spiral? If you compare this 4yr period to the 10yrs before that it’s blatantly obvious the team is on the up. You wouldn’t know it going by what you hear/read in the media.. people should stop being sheeple and learn to think for themselves.

  89. Wenger silences the doubters… Part 1
Looking forwards to the next episodes..

  90. Very strange performance by Taylor. He could have very easily not given that goal or the red card (although, of course, he would have been wrong not to do so), but apart from that, he was still dishing out weak fouls and yellow cards for Arsenal, whilst not doing the same for Chelsea, as you would expect from a standard Taylor performance.

  91. Mertesaker:

    Simply brilliant.

In one fell swoop he shoved all the media shite straight back up their own arseholes.

I was worried. Shame on me for doubting !!

  92. That moment when the Media expect Arsenal to lose!!
    Only to win it.
    #sweet_victory

  93. No parade, sadly. Security reasons.

Let’s hope some time we still get to celebrate with the manager and the team.

  94. Pat

Lets not worry about that too much now. The real World is a big bad place at the moment, and we have to keep that at the forefront of our thoughts.

But for now, as an Arsenal fan, the football World is lovely place to be.

  95. Wembley, Wembley, The Arsenal won at Wembley, Wembley.

Let’s strengthen the squad and let’s win the league next season, then Champions League the season after.

  96. Spot on Jammy J. Could have done some serious damage but he must have been aware that news media was on his tail. There are some questions needing to be asked but media is shit scared to ask. The FA is powerful in its network & can impact any investigation (as the child abuse has proven).

  97. Spurs had their best season but no trophy again.
Arsenal has their worst season under AW, won 1 trophy. So is there a power shift in North London?

  98. I Honestly believe that that victory is one of Wengers greatest moments.

What makes it oh so enjoyable is the thought of just how much it really really pisses off the AAA’s.

  99. The beginning of Wenger’s interview snippets is now showing up at Arsenal.com.

  100. Menace Jammy J

You are quite right, Taylors performance was very odd.

The ‘massive’ decisions he got right.

But the fact is, he still allowed Chelsea to get away with murder regarding cards, where as we where booked at almost every opportunity.

But I don’t really want to get too bogged down with all that after such a brilliant performance.

  101. Nitram, he gave Arsenal the biggest decision of the game, hands down. That first goal was a clear offsides and Alexis clearly played it with his arms, and it’s hard to make any arguement that Taylor was pro-Chelsea after that. I’m thrilled that he got that one delightfully wrong, but it was certainly not a good goal.

  102. The beginning of Wenger’s interview snippets is now showing up at Arsenal.com.

    SBS posted these Opta “stats”:
    > – Arsenal have lifted the FA Cup trophy in each of their last six final appearances.
    > – Per Mertesacker started his first game for Arsenal since April 30th 2016 (v Norwich City), 392 days ago.
    > – At three minutes 49 seconds, Alexis Sanchez’s opening goal was Arsenal’s fastest in an FA Cup final.

Drogba has scored in four different finals (first to do so), but I have no idea about who might have the most number of FA Cup Final winning goals.

  103. We had even more examples of how useless all the commentators and pundits are.
They kept saying how dominant/solid/organised Chavski had been all season, forgetting completely that they were really poor for their first 6 games.
Yes they scrambled some wins from those games but they were poor until they went to 3 CBs which was their 7th game.
I guess it shows the commentators/pundits have a similar IQ and memory to a gold fish…

  104. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

    13!!!

I just want to correct AI: since 2013, Arsenal have won 5 trophies – 3 cups and 2 Community Shields. That’s 1.25 trophies per season.

    COYG!!!

  105. Heard no complaints from Chelsea yet, so looks like they’ve accepted being beaten by a better side. Why can’t we be like this more often?

  106. Welcome Usama. Stuck at the Herb Farm for the day? (I think you are near Seattle.)

I wonder where Arsenal13 is? He does such a good job of being a fan during games. I think most were bored of me by the end.

I wish the TV medja would get a brain. Maybe I could then start watching games again. Oh, and have PGMO get brains too.

  107. Sorry, no you aren’t near Seattle. Someone else who has written for Untold is form Seattle. Sorry.

  108. From the Mail:

    ARSENAL (3-4-3)
    DAVID OSPINA – 6.5
Might have done better with Diego Costa’s goal and a couple of hairy moments – but also made two stunning saves.
    ROB HOLDING – 7.5
Showed great maturity in tracking runners and managed to get under Costa’s skin early, although lost him for the goal.
    PER MERTESACKER – 8.5
Didn’t look like a man who had not started a game for 392 days. A true leader and won every header.
Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil was one of the better players on the park on Saturday
    NACHO MONREAL – 7
Looks at home on the left of a back three and does the simple things well rather than over-complicating defending.
    HECTOR BELLERIN – 7.5
Flew down the right with purpose and the Spaniard’s fitness is such that he almost scored a third on the counter late on.
    AARON RAMSEY – 8.5
A tenacious display with real grit. Unsettled Chelsea throughout and capped the day off with the winner after earlier hitting the post.
Impressive Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey capped the day off with the winner
    GRANIT XHAKA – 8
Potentially his finest day in an Arsenal shirt to date. Distribution not always perfect but read the game superbly well.
    ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN – 7
Helped double up with Monreal and was menacing when he motored down the left. Final ball let him down a little.
    MESUT OZIL – 8
Much maligned German was back to his best. Worked hard and even executed a crunching sliding tackle on Hazard.
Defender Per Mertesacker didn’t look like a man who had not started a game for 392 days
    DANNY WELBECK – 6.5
Looked to stretch the Chelsea back three and hit a post but struggled to carve out many opportunities.
    ALEXIS SANCHEZ – 9
A nightmare to pick up, Sanchez told Ramsey to step aside for the first goal and remained a thorn in Chelsea’s side.
They didn’t rate the subs, and I didn’t bother with the Chelsea scores, but Moses & Kante got a 4 &4.5 respectively

  109. Well done guys! I’ve been defending Wenger all season, but I sense he would leave around January he just looked jaded from all the shit of the last 20 years. Great Win for him! Well done Arsenal players! 😀

  110. What a brilliant Captain. Per Mertesaker was exquisite with the BBC. He shut them up with a smile & a curt answer. The new term for the pundits is ‘addresses the ball’. Ramsey addresses the ball. That makes him off side. I’ve addressed the PGMOL several times but none seem to respond.

  111. A great, great day.

A performance as sublime and as intoxicating as the game against the same team last autumn, topped by grit, determination, and the sheer bloody-mindedness of their intent to win. Magnificent. Above all – Aarsenal played the football. Quality, quality, quality.

  112. Brilliant day, couldn’t be more delighted for all involved.
And the good news is that August is just a couple of months away and we can start all over again.
I really hope Arsene is in charge then, Alexis, Ozil are playing and Santi’s back.
    Could be a special season.

Thanks much to all at Untold for getting us through 2016/17
    enjoy the victory people.

Fingers crossed for good news and a new contract for le Boss on Wednesday !!!!!!

The Independent didn’t think much of Holding, only gave him a 4 out of 10.

  114. The Independent, is independent of brain cells.

The Sun, has had its brain cell exposed to sunlight all the time.

The Daily Mail, has a photocopy of a brain cell sent to it from the Sun.

The Telegraph, got a fax of the same thing the Daily Mail got.

The Guardian, has specially hire people who can recognize brain cells, and keep them out.

    Did I miss anyone?

  115. Just seen a stat that no other premier league side has won more trophies than Arsenal over last 4 years. And yet we’re supposed to be a club in crisis? Long may the ‘crisis’ continue in that case!?

  116. There was no handball by Alexis for that first goal. Alexis was looking to chest that ball when Kante kick it on Alexis which was just a yard away

  117. MickHazel
How dare they?. Anyway they’ve edited it up to five now, and gave nines to four of our players and even Danny got an eight. I think The Indy must have been influenced by the fact that Chelsea’s best two chances (including the goal) were by Costa who beat Holding on both occasions, but how about that shameful dive to get Holding booked? Taylors worst moment for me.
    Konte was downgraded to three.

  118. To all statisticians out there, I’d be interested to know what other team had a series such as 3 out ouf 4 FA cups in 4 years ‘

  119. The only way we were going to win was if every player was 10/10. And they were.

So much for the refereeing conspiracy, eh?

  120. looks like we are the only team to win 3 years out of 4, and we have have done it twice,
