Who are Arsenal buying? Opinion, it seems, is divided.

By Sir Hardly Anyone

So what’s what and who’s who, whose coming whose going and all that sort of caper….

The big ongoing story of the day is that Lucas Torreira “will be joining Arsenal very soon”.  That is what it says in Arsenal Fever, and loads of other places.

The other one that keeps popping up all the time is Steven N’Zonzi.  He is French, he plays for Sevilla, he’s 29 and he is a defensive midfielder.  If we were to buy him that would mean the midfield would be overloaded with players who would expect to be playing regularly; people like Ramsey, Xhaka and indeed Lucas Torreira.  So I suspect not every story on the block is going to be true.  That’s a bit of a surprise!

Mind you Sky Sports say Arsenal are “locked in talks”, which I suppose is the opposite of having a natter.   Highbury House suggest we should buy both and get rid of Xhaka which I think is unlikely.  It is not so much the case of having two players for each position, as they suggest, but rather keeping two players happy.

Now, Untold has been putting forward the notion of a first team League squad and a pretty powerful Cup squad, with the Cup squad being the backup XI to the League XI.  I don’t see either Torreira or N’Zonzi coming to Arsenal to be in the Cup XI.

Anyway if it is Torreira, given that Uruguay are out of the WC that could logically be sorted soon.  Mind you this is football, so when does logic apply?  After all Just Arsenal News has Ramsey leaving Arsenal to make way for N’Zonzi.  The Hard Tackle seems to agree.

Mind you (one more time) we haven’t had many players “set to” leave for a while so now we have one.  Monreal to Real Sociedad.  This is because Real Soc have apparently lost Alvaro Odriozola to Real Mad.

But even with that it is still mostly it is about selling Ramsey.    “Arsenal might have to sell this key star to sign strongly-linked midfielder” pronounces the Canon.  “Arsenal may consider selling Aaron Ramsey to sign Barcelona’s Andre Gomes”.  Because “Arsenal lining up £30m bid for Andre Gomes,” says Off The Post, joining in the fun.

So it goes on.  “Unai Emery to sell Aaron Ramsey? Fan frenzy as Gunners look to secure Barcelona,” youngster.    That’s in the Daily Star.

But let us try and move on from such tattle and tittle.  KickOff has the headline, “ARSENAL SET TO SWOOP FOR 17-GOAL WORLD CUP SENSATION.”  It’s in big children’s writing so it must be important.

And who is this I hear you cry.  Well in the original you have to wait quite a few paragraphs  to get there but I’ve saved you the trouble and can announce it is none other than Hirving Lozano, “the winger really impressing for Mexico at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.”

Moving on, one more time, the Daily Mail says, “Arsenal in pole position to sign 16-year-old Sunderland striker Sam Greenwood” but then having raised our hopes knocks them down again with “Cristian Pavon’s agent denies Arsenal that have made an offer for the Argentine”.  They only do it to annoy.

And there is a general negativity entering the forum these days with headlines like “No deal: La Liga star will not be joining Arsenal this summer,” that from Arsenal Mania.  That player getting the negatives is Ousmane Dembele.  And the source is “reports.”

But there was a touch of humour lurking in the normally utterly humourless vacuum of space that is Transferville with the headline “Can we have some more of this Arsenal Transfer Frenzy?” from Just Arsenal News.

But the Star always has to spoil the mood.  It’s headline, “Cristian Pavon to Arsenal: Agent speaks out on Boca Juniors star’s link to Gunners” basically says no deal because Arsenal won’t pay enough.  That is, however a very old tale of transfers.  Can’t the Star do any better?  Like maybe suggesting that the guy fancies bread and butter pudding and the Arsenal manager refuses to budge on the issue of diet.

However now look here, here’s a good one: Exclusive: Porto Finalizing Paperwork For Transfer Of Arsenal Wonderkid Nwakali.   The lad has been to Maastricht, VVV Venlo, Maastricht again and now Porto.  He is working his way around – and he has been getting games – 45 for Maastricht alone.

And you may also recall that Lucas Perez has been quoted as returning and fighting for his place.  Well, maybe yes, maybe no, but Foot Lond (the Daily Mirror’s 40 a day habit) has him possibly off to Galatasaray or possibly not.

And what of Gelson Martins?  Well the Star says a deal for him to go to Arsenal is more likely than Arsenal buying Pavon, but the Express has, “Arsenal transfer news: Gelson Martins agrees deal for move in Unai Emery blow,” and 101 Great Goals has “Arsenal miss out?”   And elsewhere we have “Gelson Martins ‘agrees’ Atletico Madrid switch.”   Foot Lond has that as well.

And finally one more from the Star: Arsenal are interested in signing Swedish international winger Emil Forsberg this summer.

Now you know.

  1. Rumor, rumor on the internet wall.
You sure are having one big ball.
Telling us whose heard the call
And winging their way to our Arsenal.
It is rare that any arrive at all
For these rumors are only rumors after all.

  2. in france rumour has it that mattéo guendouzi, the 19-year-old lorient midfielder, is our next signing
he’s a u19 international, is a very interesting prospect (lorient have always tried to play a wengerean kind of football, with gourcuff in ligue 1, with landreau in ligue 2 since the beginning of last season; that’s where kos came from, remember?).
that’s the kind of signing which should anger arsenalfantv – i’m looking forward to it

  3. Lazano, is being tapped by United, amongst others, but until they lose Martial, they won’t be doing much. Juventus are considering Willian and Martial. Taking Martial, may give the opportunity to United.

Geson Martins has accepted an offer elsewhere, I can’t remember where.

I highly doubt Ramsey will go, but this is one f the most important contracts in his career, it’ll take him past his peak aes in to the twighlight, it might be a lYamalenkoittle while, the ball being in hs court.

The Hammers look set to snap up Jack and Yamalenko, some big moves for them, a good option for JAck, but Juventus would have been wonderful, he’s a player they lack. Although Roy will play him and make him central to the rebuild.

I would have opted for Juventus though, good air, different pace of game, you need keys in Italy.

  4. I’m afraid rumours are the basis on which the sale of newspapers and the TV ratings need to survive.
And you only have to peruse some of the down-market sites on the internet, to realise that the use of rumours is spreading fast. 😉

  5. Whatever be the case in Arsenal incoming senior players summer transfer and in their possible outgoing senior players transfer this summer too, much have already been done in the former as 3 players have been signed and more could still be signed maybe 2 in a holding midfielder and in a striker signings will be done to arrive to the Arsenal Stadium this summer in addition to the 3 that have already arrived there to bring the number of senior team player arrivals to 5 this summer.

But will Unai Emery carryout a purge in the Arsenal senior team players he has inherited from Monsieur Arsene Wenger, the former Gunners boss If he has to do it and will do it? But how many will he purge from the senior team players who are currently on ground at the Arsenal Stadium? Maybe up to 3?

Has Lucas Torreira any honest intention at all to sign for Arsenal this summer if as he has looked to have played a Jamie Vardy’s keep Arsenal in wait trick on the Gunners is takung as suspicion he might not for his reportedly to have said: he’s concentrating on the World Cup for Uruguay and until after that before he can have the time to talk about any possible transfer away from his Italian club side. This is coming from him despite he’s being fully awarded that Arsenal have submitted a bid to his club to sign him this summer which his club has accepted. Or is Torreira and his agent trying to get the maximum possible advantage out of the contract deal he’ll sign before he will put pen to papers for Arsenal? Or has Unai Emery found a better holding midfielder in Steven N’Zonzi warranting Arsenal jettisoning Torreira to go after N’Zonzi? Well, I don’t know. I am just speculating based on suspicion.

  6. Sorry Admini. The edited version of my comment read as below please.

  7. Ornstein has been getting more and more accurate across the last 5 seasons when it comes to our purchases. I suspect he does have an AFC mole somewhere.
He tends to make a clear distinction between ‘interested in’, ‘made an offer’ and ‘are buying’.
He said we’re done after Torreira and I believe he’s correct, unless there is suddenly someone available at a sensible price with WC qualities where the club will find the necessary money.
As for the young L’orient lad, he’s not a 1st team player yet.
One for the future along with Mavropanos and Jeff etc etc.

  8. Arsenal news seems same as usual, we are signing 78 different people today.

What is more interesting, is that in Thailand more than half of the soccer team trapped in that cave have been rescued. Hopefully they get the rest okay.

Walter, NPR has an article on an insecticide derived from Mums flowers to repel ticks. It is applied to clothing. Sorry this can’t undo the problems your wife has seen, but I hope it is of interest.

  9. There’s a story out of Australia, about an 18 year old who has a collection of tricks shots (football).

The article I initially seen seems to be a social media site (Latestly). It has a link to a video of his making the rounds.

There actually seem to be quite a few hits if you search for Jed Hockin. He has youtube and other social media thingies. Here is a link to Fox News Australia on him.

    https://www.foxsports.com.au/football/viral-football-trickshot-specialist-jed-hockin-reveals-his-secrets/news-story/018810658c0532a8e5a664fd00201fa5?nk=52035424091e2fef027cc557b6ebb86a-1531143541

He apparently has a following in the ManU and Real Madrid camps. I’ve no idea if he is affiliated with any team.
