This summer’s signings Adem Ljajić

By Tony Attwood

Adem Ljajić is a Serbian Born who joined Partizan as a 14 year old from Jošanica who plays attacking midfield or right side midfield.

In October 2008 there was some confusion over his future with suggestions that he had left his club to go and have a trial with Man U without permission while he was playing in the Euro under 19 qualifying round match.  Then in January 2009, Man U announced they had signed him, and loaned him back to Partizan for a year.

Ljajić went to Manchester several times during the year but Man U were unable to get an immediate work permit for the player so dropped the planned transfer.  I wonder if they don’t have Arsenal’s network of clubs willing to take players on loan while the permit is sorted.

So instead, on 13 January 2010, he went to Fiorentina, signing a five year deal, and giving Partizan €8 million.

Ljajić made his international debut for th Serbian under 21 squad in 2008 and played for the first team in November 2010 although he is still eligible for the under 21s.

Now the pressing news of the moment and the reason the player is ready for a transfer.

Delio Rossi, manager of Fiorentina recently attacked Adem Ljajic in the dugout after some dissent at being substituted 32 minutes into a match.  Since then Rossi has been dismissed and banned for three months by the Italian football league.

“It’s difficult to be here today,” Rossi after.  “My adventure at Fiorentina has ended and I want to thank the Della Valle family for wishing me the best of luck in the future. I apologise for the episode. I have made a mistake and I will pay for it.

“I don’t compromise on certain issues, I want respect for myself, for my work, for the team I coach and for my family. These issues were raised. My gesture was ugly, disgraceful and I am very saddened.

“I have never said that I am a saint but you can ask the children and all the players that I have coached in the past what type of person I am. I have never allowed myself to hit anyone, not even my children.”

  1. Are you saying we are in for this guy? I don’t think it is a good thing, the guy seems like bad news and a nasty character, if he said what he supposedly said he is very disrespectful and i dont want a person like that near our club.

  2. I am not sure what is being said here? Do you claim we have signed him?

  3. @Brdgunner….ditto i dont quite understand whether we are looking at him or if we have bid etc. I dont really want him if what he done is true because he sounds like an utter twerp!

  4. I am Serbian myself, so I’m quite familiar with Ljajic… He’s not a bad player and doesn’t have that bad attitude (not like M’Vila anyway), but I’m sure that we need better attacking midfielder than him, like Hazard or Belhalda. Nevertheless he’s much more typical Wenger (cheaper) signing, so I will not be surprised if we saw him wearing that new jersey of ours next year…
Hope we’ll have some luck this weekend, ’cause God knows we could use some…
    Cheers! 🙂
    Oh, and COYG!

  5. ryo11, are you saying M’Vila has a bad attitude? Because of the punching a 17 year old incident? Yann is actually a pretty calm, composed and nice guy. We don’t know the circumstances of the incident so we shouldnt judge him.

  6. To clarify – this article is part of a series on players that we are linked with in the press. I don’t have any inside information on whether we are going for any of them or not. I just thought it was helpful to have a few notes about each one. Hence the other articles linked at the bottom of the article above.

  7. wellingooner, I agree with you, but they shouldn’t judge Ljajic either… I guess I have been a lil harsh on Yann because, even though M’Vila is a great player, I think our priority is to add a bit creativity to the squad, especially when we have solid back-up DMFs in Frimpong & Coquelin… Ideally we’ll sign an AMF, DMF and maybe even a decent striker cause Chamakh is not much of a back-up for RvP but Wenger said it won’t be much movement on the market. Also when it comes to DMF position, I would much rather go for Vertonghen than M’Vila, maybe play him in CB role and move TV5 in midfield (’cause, heck, he’s gonna go forward anyway), but since, apparently, he’s going to spuds, M’Vila would be good, but a bit expensive signing…
    Sorry ’bout my english…
