Marriner had a good game, although there weren’t many difficult decisions for him to make. A pretty easy game to ref I thought.

What I noticed were some pretty strange ‘advantage’ decisions, not just from Marriner but throughout this season. Many times I see us being given an advantage in our own half, sometimes even around our penalty area, which offers little advantage at all unless there’s a breakaway on. While other times the foul will be called and play pulled back when we’re in the opposition’s final third and had a genuine opportunity. Very frustrating to see the rule being applied so poorly.

I agree Walter… there were a few times when the tackles were flying in and a lot of challenges that I woiuld call a foul were ignored. Marriner was fairly consistent in this for both teams though and stepped in on any dangerous challenges.

As an Arsenal fan I would prefer a stricter approach to the laws to encorage technicality (our strength) – but I am very happy just to see some consistency in the referee’s descision making process.

i don’t want refs to favour us at all, like man poo!i just want them to be fair, identify malicious tackles, stay impartial that’s all!

and by all accounts andre marriner had a very good game!like you said, most of the tie he was invisible!unlike webb, who wants all the spotlight locked on him!

I agree with you and the guys Walter – the ref was mostly anonymous and for the most part let the game flow. There were not too many difficult decisions for him and other than Boa Morte’s overrobust tackles ,I think everyone gave a good account of themselves.
Next a good win at Leeds to restart the season.

I think as the players came on the field with fair intentions to play football the ref had a rather easy game. The first real challenge from Faubert was punished with a yellow card so the players knew they wouldn’t get away with this kind of tackels so they didn’t try it.

Like someone said he let a few challenges go from both sides. I remember a spell of a few seconds when tackles from both sides came flying in (starting with a strong two footed challenge from a WHU player) and which lead to RVP hitting the post a minute later. After the WHU player it was Wilshere and Song from our side and another WHU player who all came in a bit hard. If you go for the first tackle and stop the game, the other tackles will not come. So he could have done a bit better on that.

But like I said with the players in good spirit not much went wrong. But if you allow players like Barton, De Jongh or Karl Henry such things you could see horrible challenges and injuries. So I really think for the health of all players he should keep it stricter in the future. And this was about the same thing what I said after the Carling cup match.

Walter(and Tony), seeing as we are the only ones that do a Ref review, i think it might be nice if we had a link to share the stories. That said, the ref had a good game yesterday.

A good performance by the ref, but he couldn’t have had an easier match. It was preseason like at times. Hope to meet west ham again soon.
