Taylor has a reputation of letting some fouls go and not reaching for the cards too often and perhaps that style hurt his performance on the day as he only managed 63.41% rating (73.40% weighted). Wrong calls were slightly in Manchester City’s favour, 6 – 4.
Manchester City opened the scoring with a bit of controversy as it appeared that Mario Balotelli had controlled the ball with the help of his left arm before shooting the ball into the net from an overhead bicycle kick. A couple of Villa players appealed for a handball but the ref’s vision had been blocked by Kieran Richards and so the goal stood.
Aston Villa also scored a controversial goal as the ball had hit Charles N’Zogbia’s arm before falling to Neil Warnock who pulled one back for Villa. Walter and I concluded that N’Zogbia’s touch was not deliberate and thus according to the rules the goal should stand, even though it doesn’t really seem fair.
In the end it was another comfortable win for Manchester City by 4 goals to 1.
