The Ten Biggest Arsenal Transfer Stories of the Day complete with exclamation marks.

By Sir Hardly Anyone.

Here they are, and just to be helpful I’ve numbered them 1 to 10!

1:  Granit Xhaka!

This is in Soccerlens and quite a few other places.

Granit Xhaka set to join Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach.  You have heard it before, but you can’t blame me for that.  Besides there’s only three months to go before the transfer window pops open.

He’s a tenacious 23-year-old central midfielder who has been a target for Liverpool and Manchester City as well.

Bild and Metro say Arsenal have “won the race”. £35.3million transfer taking Xhaka from Gladbach to Arsenal is on for this summer.  It’s in the Metro too.

2: Jon Toral!

OK this is not a transfer, but each year we seem to bring in one youngster and make him a star.  ReadArsenal are nominating Jon Toral after he apparently won two awards at the Birmingham City Junior Player Awards thing this week.

He got player of the Season as well as Goal of the Season for his strike against Ipswich Town in the campaign.

3: Gonzalo Higuain!

For the third year running, or is it the 33rd year running, the man with the £70m releease clause who plays for Napoli will soon be seen at the airport although that might be because he’s in talks with Manchester United regarding a move.  The Sun says Arsenal are desperate.

4: No goalkeeper needed!

Thanks to the Express for this one – they tell us Arsenal were “handed huge double injury boost ahead of Watford clash.   Pert Cech and David Ospina will both be back in contention for Arsenal in this weekend’s game against Watford.

Untold did point out that Ospina got up after a collision on international duty and we knew a week ago Cech would be back today, but nice try.

5: Giroud to Juventus!

Arsenal Appear Willing To Approve £20m Sale Of Striker To Juventus, at least according to a screaming headline in Fresharsenal.

But at once the certainty goes as the report says, “Arsenal could be” (could be mark you) willing to approve the sale of Olivier Giroud to Juventus this summer, with the Gunners looking to bring in a more clinical forward in the summer.

6:  Alvaro Morata from Juventus to Arsenal!

He’s a striker in case you missed that bit, and he is Spanish.  He went to Juve after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid, he’s gone off the boil so he can go.  “Arsenal on the verge to complete €60m transfer of former Real Madrid man” is the general headline.

7:  ARSENAL MONITORING RED BULL SALZBURG MIDFIELDER NABY KEITA!

Since Arsenal own a monitoring company that seems more than likely – and is true probably for about 5000 other players.

“SportNet is reporting the 21-year-old has caught the attention of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger with his performances for the Austrian outfit this season.  It is understood Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Keita in action as they consider making a move for the Guinea international this summer.”  That’s in Nastytackle.

8:   Pep Guardiola wants to seal the transfer of Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin!

This has been doing the rounds for months.   Now it is in El Confidencial, as Barcelona believe they have a god given right to anyone they fancy.  Expect DNA to be mentioned soon.

That’s from the Metro.

9:  Arsenal are reportedly on alert for the transfer of Andriy Yarmolenko!

…who has been tipped to shine in the Premier League.

The Daily Mirror says the Ukraine international has repeatedly been linked with a move to England and Everton fancy him for £25 m as do Arsenal.

Ukraine boss Mykhaylo Fomenko said: ‘If he is wanted by the top English clubs then, yes, he can show his best in the Premier League and he must do this.’ according to the Metro.

10:   Paris Saint-Germain are the latest club to be linked with a transfer for Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez!

Yes Alexis is off, and probably to PSG according to The Metro with Zlatan Ibrathing on the way back.   According to BuzzSport, PSG are ready to swoop if the Chile international becomes available this summer.  Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with the former Barcelona attacker.

Now for a word of caution.

Not one of the long term rumours from the last transfer window proved to be true.  We only got sight of Elneny about a week before the transfer, by which time it was pretty well buttoned up.

This suggests Arsenal are not the mugs the media think they are, but instead may well be laying false trails concerning everyone they don’t want, to hide their true intentions.

You never know, but it might be so.

  1. @Sir Hardly,
Thought the rumours were rubbish but thoroughly enjoyed the exclamation marks. 😉

  2. Sir Hardly
You should keep a Top Twenty of the favourite rumours over the next couple of months – many of the ones you’ve noticed will be re-cycled in blogettas, and the other football media.

Karim Benzema yet to be mentioned, though Ibrahimovic has been also trailed recently, as has Adrien Rabiot (but we’ll also have take his mum.

Kante, Wanyama, the Bender twins and Toni Kroos could also be making entries in the next weeks.

The best one has to be Morata though. Ha ha! It’s claimed Madrid will use their buy-back clause to get him back from Juve, then sell him to Arsenal to finance their deal to buy Aubamayeng.

The sad thing is that the AAA and AWOBs actually believe all these tales, and then get mad with AW if these players aren’t signed

  3. Tony

Why you publish such crap week in week out when everyone knows its useless.
I dont even bother to read these articles by sir hardly anyone

  4. But the bad news is that another critic of AW will be back in the TV studios, as Gary Neville just got the tin-tack from Valencia
Club management is so easy when you’re sitting in the studio
    COYG

  5. Valencia!Valencia!Valencia! The world is a marvellous place. Next stop for Gary – the Sky Studio to explain how Mr Wenger gets it all wrong.

  6. It’s such a shame that we were the only club in top 5 divisions in Europe who did not buy an outfield player last summer. You guys really struggled to justify but you did try. It was embarrassing at times reading some of your excuses. Let’s hope Arsene does not make the same mistake again this summer.

  7. -15 for BGM

For those who don’t like numbering to 10 in base 10 (formatting will not be optimal). Oh, the downfall of many a historical numbering system, is no place for a zero. Not here. This comment will be historic! (actually anything that you read, is by definition historic, because it was written before you read it).

    0 – 0 _ 0 = 0
    1 – 1 _ 1 = 1
    2 – 10 _ 2 = 2
    3 – 11 _ 3 = 3
    4 – 100 _ 4 = 4
    5 – 101 _ 5 = 5
    6 – 110 _ 6 = 6
    7 – 111 _ 7 = 7
    8 – 1000 _ 10 = 8
    9 – 1001 _ 11 = 9
    10 – 1010 _ 12 = A

And for those of you who are not math adept, we have base 10, base 2, base 8 and base 16 (although it is hard to tell with base 16).

  8. It’s such a bloody shame that all Arsenal Supporters can’t wait until the Official Arsenal site comment on a new signing instead of reading the Daily crap that is put out there that for some reason people by hook line and sinker. Given AW record on the signing’s he has made I will let the man who knows best to do his work and leave him in peace to do just that. Whoever he may sign will have my support just as Arsenal and AW also have that support and always will do. I signed on for life to support this club come rain hail or shine and its manager well over forty years ago and that has not changed and never ever will.

  9. BGM
Manure, ManC, Chelski and Liver all bought outfield players and blazing their way through the EPL leaving us behind……
    Gunner6

  10. BGM,
Arsenal did buy several outfield players last summer, they are featuring this year at U28 and U21 level. Expect to see them in the first team starting from next season.

  11. Well well well. G Neville sacked by Valencia. How long before he is touted as a replacement for Wenger? It will be the biggest laugh of the year.

He was so pontifical that he must now hide his ugly face from view. The shamless idiot who claimed to know more than Lord Wenger of Arsenal has been sacked after less than 4 months. Just proves that punditing is (listen Piers Morgan) piss easy but management isn’t.

    Rock on reality.

  12. I guess the reason Leicester and Tottenham are 1 and 2 in the table this season is because they bought Higuain, Ibrahimovic, Lewndowski, Pogba and Benzema in the last window. Must be, that’s the only way to win according to the media and the WOB.

  13. Sir Hardly,
apologies for forgetting the exclamation points in my previous post. Here they are:
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Great news there Menace.

The only problem, is yet another muppet to comment in England.

  15. Buy them all!!!!! And more !!!!!!!
Serious now, where do you buy those exclamation points? At which team does he play now?

  16. Andrew
With us buying 2 outfield players this time i would of expected them to be challenging for a starting place in 2015/2016 not in 2020.What use is that.

  17. could you provide the names of those two outfield players that would have brought us the title John?
    Benteke?
    Pedro?
    Pato?
    Falcao?
    Martial?
    Depaay?
    ?????

  18. Walter
It’s one thing to have said Arsenal didn’t need any new ready made signings before the season’s start, but it’s quite another to keep persisting with this opinion now ,when half of out midfielders haven’t kicked the ball in anger( Wilshere), played some twenty minutes or less( Rosicky) , one game or so( Arteta) , and haven’t been up to scratch for a while( Flamini).

This reminds me of the Iraq war debate from people who advocated for it.
Even in hindsight they still believe it was a good idea.

Admitting to being wrong is such a difficult thing to do apparently.

  19. Tom,
who could have predicted that Wilshere would be out with a broken leg for so long? A hairline crack in the calfbone is usually a relatively easy thing to cure from. 6 weeks and back on the training field again. It went completely different because of for us unknown medical circumstances. You probably did predict this, fine for you 😉
Rosicky and Flamini were always second or third options for their positions behind the likes of Ramsey-Santi and Coquelin.

Arteta at his age was also not really the man who would carry the team and was more a backup player. Being captain means not much, ask Vermaelen.

What couldn’t be predicted (apart by Untold maybe…) was the long term contact injuries to Santi and Coquelin.

It sure would have helped if Jack would have been fit earlier I do admit. But the others you name would only be used sporadically during the season even when fit.

Talking with hindsight is easy that is also true.

You could argue that one should foreseen the unforeseen but then who is going to come to sit on the bench waiting for all those players to get injured? With hindsight one can say: we should have bought Elneny earlier. But then again would they have let him go in the summer or not? Do you know the answer to that question? I don’t.

And so far Elneny has been good but can he keep this up (I sure hope he does of course) but I’m sure you remember the ElWho? from some part of the fans when we signed him. Another unknown…. Another on the cheap…

But if Santi and Coquelin wouldn’t have suffered their contact injuries I’m sure we had enough players in the team even with Jack being the long heeler.

I also would like to remind you that Welbeck was said to be playing again around December in the first prognoses. It didn’t work out that way and took him a few months longer.
But unless one has a crystal ball nobody can predict such things. And buying a player for someone who is expected to be back with half the season to play is what Chelsea and Man City can afford to do but not us.

  20. Walter
If more midfield signings had been made last summer Iwobi and Campbell would probably not have got their chance. Would a couple of new signings have done any better than they did?
It is typical of the AAA to want expensive ready made signings and then criticize Wenger because the youth set up is not bearing fruit.

  21. Gord – sadly this silver lining has a big cloud. If some TV organisation employs him it will be a sad indictment of their football knowledge. Currently enjoying the cricket on TV. Decent pundits on cricket.

  22. Walter
Just a few for you seing as most of the ones you have used have failed. .Schneiderlin,Kante,De bruyne, Alderweireld, payet,Vidal,Turan,Draxler ,Krus and those are just off the top of my head .Im sure if i had one of the best scouting networks out there i could find a few more than Arsenal found last summer.Having said that we really didnt need anyone as our amazing team managed to finish 3rd last season and no matter who we brought in would be any improvement on Flamini,Rosicky,Arteta Chambers andGabriel.

  23. Walter
Also you state” But unless one has a crystal ball nobody can predict such things”.You dont need a crystal ball to predict our injuries hitting the squad like they have all you have to do is rewind to the season before and the season before that and the season before that etc.It happens every year and injuries that normally take a couple of months to heal, for some reason with us can go on to keep players out for a lot longer.Sure Wenger uses the “hes very close to return “around january so as the money stays in the bank but as soon as the window closes he suffers a setback which lasts for months!

  24. Come on John are you serious about those names????

Schneiderlin… has he catapulted MU to the top of the league?? Not when I look at the table.

Kante??????? come on John be honest if Wenger would haver bought him you would have been in arms because he bought another young unknown Frenchman.

De Bruyne?? Out of our league. The most expensive summer transfer… LOL we are not City

Aldeweireld? Yes agree would have been a good buy but in a department where we had already 3 good CB I don’t know if he would have come to be the 4th choice. One of his demands was that he wanted to be 100% sure to be in the starting line up. Something Arsenal could not give him, Tottenham did.

Payet? Nobody even one of my friends who is a big WHU fan expected much of him. He said he didn’t knew him at all. He came good that is for sure but tell my where he was on your wish list before the season started if possible.

The other names are players who didn’t come to the PL. And why should they? Vidal could go to the best team in Germany, Turan to Barcelona.

Keep in mind that even Chelsea couldn’t lure Pogba away from Juventus for 75M last summer.

But I admit you can throw names around. That is easy. But if they were available and would have been possible for Arsenal is something else.

  25. John, may I point out that our amazing team won most points in the calendar year 2015. More than Chelsea, more than City, more than Tottenham, more than anyone else.

No need to give the standard reply to that but this team was good enough to do that so should have been good enough to win the league. And only losers give up before the finish line has been passed.

  26. Walter
You asked for some names that could of brought us the title and i have given you some.Sorry to have to dissapoint you but as you share our managers views as always, they were players that were available,in our price range could live in london. They might have to fight for their place but so should all footballers who are on multi million pound contracts.
Oh and lets award us with the 2015 most points won trophy. We can put it next to the 2014 one and the 4th place trophy..Yeah!!!! Wenger the genius manager strikes again.Give him another 10 year contract.

  29. There’s many a slip between the cup……

A nun walks into Mother Superior’s office and plunks down into a chair. She lets out a sigh heavy with frustration. ” What troubles you, Sister?” asked the Mother Superior. “I thought this was the day you spent with your family.”

” It was,” sighed the Sister. ” And I went to play golf with my brother. We try to play golf as often as we can. You know I was quite a talented golfer before I devoted my life to Christ.”

” I seem to recall that,” the Mother Superior agreed. ” So I take it your day of recreation was not relaxing?”

” Far from it,” snorted the Sister. ” In fact, I even took the Lord’s name in vain today!”

” Goodness, Sister!” gasped the Mother Superior, astonished. ” You must tell me all about it!”

” Well, we were on the fifth tee…and this hole is a monster, Mother -540 yard Par 5, with a nasty dogleg right and a hidden green…and I hit the drive of my life. I creamed it. The sweetest swing I ever made. And it’s flying straight and true, right along the line I wanted…and it hits a bird in mid-flight !”

” Oh my!’ commiserated the Mother. ‘How unfortunate! But surely that didn’t make you blaspheme, Sister!”

” No, that wasn’t it,” admitted Sister. ” While I was still trying to fathom what had happened, this squirrel runs out of the woods, grabs my ball and runs off down the fairway!”

” Oh, that would have made me blaspheme!” sympathized the Mother.

” But I didn’t, Mother!” sobbed the Sister. ” And I was so proud of myself! And while I was pondering whether this was a sign from God, this hawk swoops out of the sky and grabs the squirrel and flies off, with my ball still clutched in his paws!”

” So that’s when you cursed,” said the Mother with a knowing smile.

” Nope, that wasn’t it either,” cried the Sister, anguished, ” because as the hawk started to fly out of sight, the squirrel started struggling, and the hawk dropped him right there on the green, and the ball popped out of his paws and rolled to about 18 inches from the cup!”

Mother Superior sat back in her chair, folded her arms across her chest, fixed the Sister with a baleful stare and said… ” You missed the fucking putt, didn’t you?”

Now to defend wenger once again you use the excuse that signing players is now the hardest thing to do.You have reasons why it is so difficult to sign players and why they might not want to come to Arsenal.I have a list of what players look for when being transfered ,let me know if you agree.
    1. Wages and transfer fee-We have the money now so that cant be used anymore as an excuse.
    2. Stadium-We were told that we had to move the emirates to attract the very best players.Who wouldn’t want to play there.
    3. Play for Arsene Wenger- As you state regularly it must be a dream to play for the best manager in the world.
    4. Live in London-Surely players are attracted to living in the capital rather than Liverpool or manchester.
    5. To play in a great team-Without the cheating referees we would be top of the league now and are playing brilliantly.
6.Ambition of the club-Are we really ambitious enough to win top honors?
7.Will i get to play or sit on the bench.-Like every other player you have to play well to get in the team.Competition for places is healty and all players should fight for their jersy.
We are told we have one of the best scouting networks about .Im sure if we were actively looking for players we would of brought in more quality last summer .I think Wenger thought he had enough quality,a decision that has come back to bite him.

  31. John – Have you done anything successful in your life? Tell us about it.

You are not worthy to clean Wengers boots. Yet you claim to know better than one of the most successful managers in the world. He is also one of the top ten coaches. He is also picking the players of the team I support. He has been successful despite the PGMO agenda that cheats us year after year. So shut up if you cant put up your success that compares to his.

  32. Menace
As a matter of fact i have had success in my life but im not about to share it with you on here.Arsene wenger is paid over 8 million a year to be successful and this year he has failed and all the excuses you use on here cannot hide this.I see ozil has come out yesterday to say that we have mucked up this season. They wont go down well with wenger who doesnt like to admit hes failed and take blame.I cant see ozil staying at Arsenal much longer as hes starting to realise the club hasn’t got the ambition he thought.
