Not always cautioning Rooney when he goes overboard to me is the reason why England will be missing her best player for the next 3 matches at the Euro 2012. Deliberately pampering a player might look good at some point but over time it is going to boomerang as it just did. I believe if Rooney had done what he did in the EPL he would have escaped a booking as the referees would have claimed not to see it. So, a big thank you to the referees of the EPL for putting the whole country in this mess.
I think you’re right about that, @Yommex, and I believe Capello has actually made comments to that effect (although I may have read it on one of those rumor-aggregation sites, so who can know for sure what was actually said).
Yommex, you are right about that
Letting a player off the hook all the time might be amusing for the player (and his team) in the home league. But it bites you back.
Maybe if he would have been banned for his elbowing against that Wigan player last year as he should have been then the message would have been clear (if he has enough brains to get any message – but that is another part of the problem maybe). But by letting him escape and getting away with any violent and dangerous thing on a football field you create a kind of mindset in the players mind (where else) and so he considers that he can do what he wants without punishment.
Until you meat a Fifa/Uefa ref who doesn’t care who you are..
So maybe the FA and the PGMO have just been both responsible for handicapping the English team in the next European championship.
Another reason for Gooners who also support England to be angry with those organisations..
Rooney is a prince in england so the refs fear and obey him and infact all man utd staff how many fouls or bookings do they get.the fa should investigate this team before epl is taken to the dogs.
