The ex-Arsenal man who keeps on moving on

Today’s story from the Arsenal anniversary files is of Mark Randall, and man who in his early days appeared to be destined for great things (and Mr Wenger appeared to agree with that) but who could never settle at Arsenal, and indeed appears to have had difficulty settling anywhere else.

And yet in his role before football was suspended he appears to have changed his style a little, and has started scoring goals.

The full story, along with all the anniversaries for the day, are on today’s bulletin from the Arsenal History Society.

Among the many characters who pop up in today’s anniversaries, we have the wonder James “Punch” McEwen. who was the unlikely character cast into the role of manager of Arsenal during the first world war, Jack Lambert, and utterly brilliant player who was virtually destroyed by Arsenal “fans” who could not or would not recognise his incredible achievements, the amazing Ted Drake with his wonderful all time record, Bob McNab appearing as a footballer in an episode of “On the Buses,” a  hat trick for Macdonald and more.

The History Society has recorded thousands of anniversaries, all of which are available on the Arsenal History Society site, along with major series of articles into such topics as Arsenal in the 30s, Arsenal in the 70s, Henry Norris at the Arsenal, Arsenal’s pre-seasons through history, Arsenal’s chairmen through history and so on.

The site also welcomes articles – if you have undertaken any research into Arsenal’s past, or have memories you wish to share, the site would love to publish them.  Just write to Tony@schools.co.uk with details.
